Subject: WAR TITANS: Invaders Must Die Kickstarter - Giant Robots vs. Kaiju!
(But, presumably, Crawling Chaos already has this.)
This seems like a lot to assume, and it certainly wouldn't be the first time that someone only found out they had issues once they started their KS campaign.
Hopefully they've got it all sorted, as legal stuff is really quite boring. And I'd hate to see a project get scuttled over this, or, even worse, have a project 'fund' and then not deliver.
I still think they can make any necessary changes when they're necessary to make though.

FASA much? And the King Ghidorah rip off is pretty blatant. Same with the Godzilla.
Just... not feeling this. And I LOVE Kaiju and giant Robots.
Yeah, FASA was the first thing that jumped to mind for me as well.
For those that don't know, FASA got legally trounced by Harmony Gold/Playmates in the mid-90's over copyright infringement of the Macross mecha designs that were licensed for use in Battletech. What is often forgotten is that FASA sued Playmates first over an Exo Squad toy design that blatantly ripped off the FASA designed MadCat `Mech.
Pictured here:
Spoiler:
So as much as I despise them, Harmony Gold is not to be trifled with. I'd be wary of pledging for this campaign.

They only can claim sway over the mech mode, because the animators inserted an easter egg, modified Orguss mecha, in some action shots in Macross.

I am a backer currently, but it is a source of worry for me about the possible copyright issues. Harmony Gold in particular has been pretty on point with its IPs. Just look at what Piranha Games has done to put in "classic" Battletech Mechs in MWO. I think people may be holding out because no one wants to hand over money and then you guys get hit with a huge lawsuit in the middle of production and nothing gets to backers. It is a fairly legitimate concern.

While we are actually pretty sure about the integrity of our project, we can't help but notice how some of our backers and supporters are concerned about the way our characters homage the anime genre. We want to reassure you and everyone who's concerned just as you are by making one statement: our priority will always be to bring this project to life, to protect your investments and to reward you with our game. If needed, we'll make little design adjustments without compromising the overall quality of the game components, but that's it.
Thank you all for the support and the constant feedbacks.

hmm their response just sent my nose a twitching.
Thinks Palladium books screwed the pooch on the Robotech project.

Basically all of these are non-answers to whether they actually can go through with it.
At the very least, the Robotech design and the Optimus prime design are very likely to get them C&D letters from American companies. The japanese don't seem to litigate as much I think.
However, I'm not backing this because the models are pretty meh and seem to be mostly renders without much detail and because the art is pretty bad. It is exalted 3rd ed level of anime-bad.

Eesh. This just say rip-off instead of homage though. I can see the C&D's coming... Transformers (Seriously it's literally Optimus), Neon Genesis, Gundam, Macross (Frontier in particular), even Attack on Titan. Hell even the pilot cards almost seem just to be recolors
Poor ignorant guardsmen, it be but one of many of the great miracles of the Emperor! The Emperor is magic, like Harry Potter, but more magic! A most real and true SPACE WIZARD! And for the last time... I'm not a space plumber.

Don't think Ghidorah or Godzilla will be issues? Because... that is obviously what they are.
Also, egregious that for all the rip-offs.... I MEAN, homages! They didn't do a Jet Jaguar. And they call this a game about giant robots and Kaiju! Pssssh.

Saying you are 'actually pretty sure' about any potential copyright issues this project has is not going to cut it for a lot of potential backers. You need to be as near certain as possible and say as much once you are.
If you haven't already done so, I recommend you take advice from a trademark/copyright lawyer and then report the results of that here. Another project I backed had to change its name mid-campaign and there were similar concerns, just over that one name change. Their reports of the advice they had received seemed to reassure more than one sceptic.

I think that you should consult a copyright lawyer, make a copy of the results and publish them on the page; not so much because I think there should be a problem (we recognize most of them because we are anime fans, not because they are clear copies). This way you would calm down everyone that has issues with this (and have a right too), and also so that we can close the subject and move on to fulfilling this campaign. Also if there should be a problem with one or two of the molds there would still be time to make substantial changes to the figures in question.

@Nova 99 @iñigo
We had taken technical adivices on the subject, we are strong in our position but we can't deny that some of our backers may still have some doubts. We are working on some changes to the project that will reassure you, by tomorrow we will release an important update.

I won't back or support this game for the simple fact that it seems to be using the designs of some popular IPs to support itself.
I have no problem with homages, I use them in my game Giant Monster Rampage. My problem is that this seems more like exploitation and less like an homage.

Dear Backers, Certain things are never easy to say, and it is with sadness that we are announcing the cancellation of the Kickstarter campaign War Titans: Invaders Must Die, although there has been an excellent beginning of which you were all main characters.
This doesn't mean it's going to be an end, quite on the contrary it's the prelude of a brilliant new beginning!
But why this choice? In designing our campaign we have no doubt made mistakes: the vision driving us forwards means listening to others and using your precious feedback to give the game a better graphical presentation, artistic level and game play and thus address your concerns.
Achieving all of these will be impossible without extra time and work and a better set up of the Kickstarter campaign than the present one. But in what way do we want to improve our project?
Having a game play clip and video reviews ready at the launch of the campaign
Increasing the number of miniatures offered
Improving the graphics and the design of the game elements
Refining the characters design, thus making it more original and unique Increasing the size of the miniatures
Exploring, upgrading and implementing new game mechanics
We don't exactly know the time schedule for the re-launch yet, or what we will be able to achieve, but this is what we wish and intend to share with you. We will keep you constantly updated on the future developments of War Titans: Invaders must die through Kickstarter, our Website and its Forum and the Facebook Page.
In thanking you for your support, numerous feedback and the frankness of your messages, we hope we have treated you in the same way.
Thank you, and see you soon!

They ought to knock off the homages of those robots Capcim did with Tech Romancer. Those were good homages that were original, but with just enough similarities that you could identify the homages. Plus, nobody, Capcom included, I'm sure really remembers that game, so it'd be easier to get away with.
The real crime these guys committed though was not including Getter Robo.
