I exist at a possible point in what we perceive as time and eventually not even that; all knowledge of this falling away as we become dust and shadow.

I work as a Cyber Security engineer, in a senior capacity. Great work, I've worked on designing new architectures, compliance, vulnerability management and risk management. Really diverse field, and plenty of opportunities for growth.

I recently was promoted to a Technical Lead for a large company's datacenter. The slot below me are Infrastructure Analysts, whose job is to monitor and recover pieces of infrastructure and applications when they break, and to oversee the change process for upgrades. That was a job I loved.

Now my job is to oversee those infrastructure analysts, do their scheduling, analyse major incidents afterwards for root cause analysis, and work on various projects, which involves a lot of email coordination and meetings. It's a job I'm turning out to love a lot less even though the money is pretty good.

Managing people is a pain in the proverbial I am afraid and most of the time it's like herding cats. I understand the sentiment though. It's nice to actually do something rather than watch and tell other people to do it.

"Because while the truncheon may be used in lieu of conversation, words will always retain their power. Words offer the means to meaning, and for those who will listen, the enunciation of truth. And the truth is, there is something terribly wrong with this country, isn't there? Cruelty and injustice, intolerance and oppression. And where once you had the freedom to object, to think and speak as you saw fit, you now have censors and systems of surveillance coercing your conformity and soliciting your submission. How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror. " - V

Chemical Engimeer that spent 15 years in manufacturing plants doing some form of Process engineering, including Lean Six Sigma Black Belt. I've spent the last 4 years as a Senior Researcher for a building construction materials company. I currently go to our 20 wallboard manufacturing plants, rolling out new raw materials, new products, new processes, and help troubleshoot/investigate manufacturing issues.

I travel ~40 weeks a year to plants across the US. I love my job.

I have perhaps the least interesting job in the thread so far; order fulfillment for a major DIY retailer.

I basically pick and ship orders of building materials.

However, I enjoy having a mundane job that I don't take home with me. I even get lots of exercise with all the lifting and walking.

Still currently looking for a full time job and figuring out exactly where I want to go for my career path after having finished my Bachelor's Degree in English and History. I currently have full time hours as a barista for a bubble tea shop and a part time job as a tutor during the evenings. Not too crazy about being a barista right now but I am 100% enjoying being a tutor, where I go to student's homes and can actually tackle their issues one-on-one and see them improve in person rather than the group session environments other tutoring places use. I'm hesitant to go straight to teacher's college since its very different to teach an entire class vs one student at a time and at least in Canada, the job market for Humanities teachers is pretty over-saturated, so I'd be basically forced to go overseas for work which I'm not prepared to commit to.

I'm a graduate of Modern History. My first job after graduating was with the university itself, in the history department as a research assistant. We were investigating the working class standards of living in Belfast in the late 19th/early 20th century. Unfortunately for me, there was only one permanent job to be had at the end, and there were 3 of us. I didn't get it.

After that I went back to working for the city council, as a binman. I'd done this during the summers between semesters. But it's not what I expected to be still doing after graduating from a Russel group university.

But I recently quit that job and now I'm pursing my dream of being a full time professional artist. That's my true calling in life. I should have went to art school. I have sold art in the past, and I hope to do so again.

Besides, historians sometimes come up with pretty nifty theories that we can also use in archaeology, so history and archaeology kinda help each other in improving our understanding of our past.

There's a lot of historical periods that simply don't work without archeology as well. We had a speaker over at my university last month who was giving a lecture on the luxury culture of Roman Britain, and almost no written sources really exist to get to that. Her presentation was almost nothing but archeology.

The Humanities: Where you go when presented with 20 different fields of study and you just can't stand to pick one

I know that sensation. Why I'm going into archives instead of academic history. Got to play with some 150 year old newspapers last week, and a ledger that was so brittle I decided to just leave it alone. Ain't no one gonna say Hats broke that gak XD

This is so true. . . My final project, which I'm currently (royally speaking) writing now is almost based on sociological, anthropological, and psychological studies. Apparently, I chose a subject of which the vast majority of "histories" are popular/fan history and not of all that much use to me

But, there are 2 jobs that I am applying for that I'm hoping to get one of:

One is as an archivist for the state's state department, the other is titled simply "Historian" working for the Dept. of Navy.

I always love it when some new archaeological discovery throws up new information - no matter where in the world or how relatively minor it is.

From random Saxon Gold finds which show a hitherto unknown sophistication in their metallurgy, to that village found in the Americas (can't remember where, and don't want to offend!) which shows human habitation long before it was thought.

Absolutely love seeing clever people being clever and piecing it all back together
