It's incredible how this challenge gains in quality month after month. Some entries are really fabulous. It blows my mind
how some people finish huge pieces or squads of minis in a month. I can hardly finish a miniature or two.

A FAT thank you for keezus, feltmonkey, ZergSmasher, Chris56, ZoBo, Moolet for written thoughts on my Ogre Kagunk,
plus extra thanks to Gulgog TufToof for writing a sea of comments !

OK, I voted for:

Chris56 - one of the top two entries for me. Excellent color transition from head to tail. Smooth blends are not easy to do
especially on a large surface like carnosaur. The saddle/throne is also done really well. The only thing that's lacking
compared to carnosaur is the base. But nonetheless amazing model !

ZoBo - the second top of the two. I don't know how you do it but obviously you can do it. Wonderful diorama. You can
tell the story right away. Every little detail adds to it. All three minis have the right facial expression. Fear, excitement and
anger. Bravo, kudos to you mate.

Moolet - you did a great paint job on these with seemless conversion to boot. I believe the photos don't do them justice.

keezus - great blends with the blue skin. Also precise brush work. It's always nice to see minis from other ranges.

El-Torminator - all around great execution! Details are precisely painted. The photo is over exposed IMO.

Midget Gems - hail the conversion king! Your work is always funny and interesting. Also how do you manage
to do all those big projetcs ?!?

n1ceguypaul - brutal and primal comes to mind. Perfectly on theme. Great base!!!

This is not your tipical quality mate. It's hard to describe it. The paint job is chalky, highlights are messy. It's quite weird
actually. But don't be discouraged. I know it's gonna be better next time.

Out and see ya next time.

To all you guys who aren't happy because of how few votes you have gotten, take heart: you've all gotten more than me this month!

All joking aside, I feel your pain. I never get very many votes. If I get more than 5, it's a good month for me. My best ever was 10, back in August of 2015, where my entry was a Soul Grinder. I keep entering anyway, and I usually finish (this month where I didn't finish was a fluke). My painting has improved a great deal since I started on these challenges, and yours will too, just give it time and keep practicing!

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700
Check out my P&M Blogs: ZergSmasher's P&M Blog | Imperial Knights blog | Board Games blog | Total models painted in 2024: 40 | Total models painted in 2025: 21 | Current main painting project: Warhammer 40k Leviathan set

Thanks to everyone for their positive comments and advice...
I wasn't happy with the base myself but just ran out of time...definitely trying to take that advice on board for future challenges.

I've found this monthly challenge such an awesome place for motivation and inspiration,
Big thanks to Paradigm for making it happen.

I know what you mean but here more than many other places the old adage counts; it's the taking part that counts!

Awesome work everyone, very sad I couldn't take part this month but a hectic job application has been sucking up all my free time :-(

My top 5 this month! (In no order):

- Zobo
- Moolet
- El-Torminator
- Modock
- keezus

With a special mention to DanceofSlaneesh's old school Goff Ork, I love it!

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

Great to see that we have had 2 pages of discussion already. I always try to time my post so we stay near the top of the forums but haven't needed to this month

Thanks a lot of the mention/comments Whittlesey40k, Feltmonkey, Gulgog, Modock

Sorry it wasn't fully finished, I bit off a bit more than I could chew this month with my work moving away I really had very little time to develop the model. Thank you for any votes that went to my Chariot.

For me there where 3 real stand out entries then several on a par with each other that all deserved votes.

Zobo - Brilliant scene and you taught us how to make mushrooms, you're a star
Modock - As always your smooth painting really gives life to the model.
El-Torminator - The colours and attention to he details have really bought the whole model together nicely and it looks fantastic.

I voted for about 10 in total for 1 reason or another, and also voted for all your images on the gallery as well.

Well done for commenting on everyones work Gulgog

On the subject of getting votes, if you really want to get more then ask how to improve on these forums and you will get a wealth of experience and advice that you can look at applying to your painting. But its not everything, remember to have fun and the challenge is to get you painting in the first place.

Don't worry about it (easier said than done!). I got 8 which is one of my best showings, but what really made me feel better about still only being mid-table was the quality of entries with fewer votes than me. I looked through and was amazed at the quality of those that got less than 8 votes (including yours).

Also, I think your photos don't do the model justice. Better photos will help get more votes.

Yeah, my photos need improvement. These ones weren't quite so blurry and the detail shows up well, but I still have bad shadows and the backdrop takes up to much.

Yep, you said it, you have to make it easy for people to see your work. I'd also suggest cropping your photos so more of the model fills the screen. If people can't see it they won't vote for it.

Congrats Zobo, El-Torminator and Modock brilliant work.

2 top positions for your recently Zobo, great to see, keep it going

Dunno why, but my photos shrank

And still I got the most votes I've ever had in one of these challenges...
Don't know if thats encouraging or not...

Anyway, really enjoyed looking through all the entries this month. So many different takes on the theme and so many awesome entries

PossumCraft, the Dakka Gallery auto defaults all image links to "medium" size which is up to 600 Px

If you want it bigger go to the Image, then to "share this image", the bottom right hand corner of the page.

The first drop down box - default is "recommended Sizes" change that to "full sized", then copy the "Forums" image link

So a bigger image would have looked like this for you

Spoiler:

p.s. don't post 4000 px wide images and put them as full sized or it will bugger up everyones viewing of the thread.

Since we're on the subject of pics, the number one recommendation I can make is to download Photoscape, it's very easy to get to grips with and free to boot!
http://www.photoscape.org/ps/main/index.php

Even if you're not doing anything fancy with borders or collages or text, just taking a few moments to correct the white balance, brighten things up if they're too dark and crop your pics to focus in on the models will help immensely.
