Just out of interest - anyone any experiance of painting the models made of coloured plastic (e.g. the ones in old getting started boxes)?

Does the colour of the base plastic tint the base coat you put on top (I guess not with chaos black)

I've got models made from white, grey, black, red, orange, yellow, blue and green plastic. Primed properly, it makes no difference.

I am confused by this. Why wasn't this released alongside Dark Imperium?

Why snap fits models now?

Why not just multi part kits?

I'll guess in part to let Dark Imperium be the star of the show, and in part because they were already struggling to supply enough of it without having to cope with making loads of other new kits at the same time

Snap fit are ideal for brand new players who haven't come from a modelling background, and are more friendly to younger players who's parents may not want them playing with glue (I wouldn't be surprised if they're thinking about how to supply snap fit stuff off the sprue to avoid modelling knives too in time).

It also means that their intro level kits can be priced lower than their normal 'premium' rates as they'll be seen as 'lower quality' by some of the more experienced folk in the hobby (others just won't care)

I hope the mat is more to whole foot or half foot in measurement than the Thunder of Blood one is. That mat was something like 20in by 42in unless someone has had more time to accurately measure.

Alphaecho, all that 2nd Ed papercard terrain looks really good on a grey mat. Honestly, I love it

I dont own the original sets except the stuff in Storm of Vengeance and the WD bunkers and barriers but found them on Yaktribe and via Google. They are going to be printed soon for a set of transportable terrain (minus the ones that need plastic bulkheads). Thanks for the inspiration

Apologies for off topic, those mats are from the original Deadzone Kickstarter. Thats why I am hoping that the ones in these 40K starters are whole foot sizes. I'm interested in trying to put a 6 by 4 together AND have lots of miniatures rather than just buying the Imperialis plastic tiles.

I just really hope they will release the Reivers seperately. The wording makes it unsure I think. I will probably try to get an answer from GW regarding this, as I am not keen on splitting too many boxes with other people, and I think I will need quite a few Reivers, they are stunning models.

The wording I am referecing is just after the part where they describe the three new kits (Reivers, Death Guard and Pox walkers), where it says:

"These products will be released alongside our new ways to get started."

This could mean that they will get their own releases, in separate boxes, alongside those new getting started boxes.

EDIT: Just read this part about the First Strike box, and I do think they will get released separately. Don't know where I got that they wouldn't be released separately from..
The box itself contains all our new Easy to Build miniatures, but for almost half the price you’d pay if you got them all separately

They will be released separately as "Easy to build" like theres the ones in Age of Sigmar, and latter they will be released in multipart plastic kits. They have follow the AoS formula 1:1 for now, so theres no reason to think otherwise.

And answering to H.B.M.C, all of those new monopose Nurgle marines aren't the ones in the teasers.

I'm totally gonna get the smallest one. Probably 25-30€ like Storm of Sigmar for 3 more Intercessor, the 3 Reavers, 6 more and new sculpts of Poxwalkers and 3 Plague marines?! (The one without a helmet, I'm not a fan but wathever) count me in!

I wish they would just release the multi part kits rather than several of these starters so people get way more chaf models than they need with less options. It feel likes the Khorne Bloodreavers where you got so many in the start box with just one option, then they come out and release a standalone box of them with all the good options, and your like well, wtf do I need more of these guys for...

Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!

Gah! These releases are so frustrating! The Primaris marines look so good and these new ones would be great for the Night Lords force I'm building but they're too damn big (although I could convert one into a Lord maybe). And on the other side we have the DG models, which are the right size, but they look so bad! I was going to get the Dark Imperium box set on day 1 but after I got a good close up on the new DG models I left the store. Why couldn't they just have copied FW's plague marine upgrade kit? Those models were great!

This new bach of DG is what have made me get at last into chaos. I really hated the "we are just fat marines" of old DG

It's all individual taste,

the Primeris are marines, not really fussed about the change in look or scale but except for the original beakies I've never been a huge marine fgan

I love the new DG and have got some from ebay (except for the Malignant Plaguecaster which is not great) and i'll get the snap fit ones too

the FW ones were ok, but not something that drove me to buy them,

but on the other hand the foetid bloat drone falls well short of FWs nurgle fliers

and the Pox walkers just don't do it for me either

but as I say it's just a matter of taste

Didn't see the "... won't even need glue." part of that. My bad.

I presume then that the snapfit ones are the new ones then, not the redo's (in colour!) of the ones in the Dark Imperium box.

Just for clarity for anyone who doesn't have Dark Imperium.. the models in that box definitely require glue. I've been gluing them together since yesterday..

Not only that.. I've been eyeballing Blood Warriors from AOS to update my Berserkers for 40k.. and the easy assemble ones are cheap enough but if you get the multipart ones outside of the start collecting box you're going to get boned on the price.. It's like $15 more for basically the rest of a small starter army.. I get it.. it forces purchases that match their strategy (I suppose anyway) but holy crap that's annoying.

Well its like the starter came out and you get 20 standard dudes with 1 handed weapons, then they release the individual box, with new weapon options for 2handers and different poses and bodies. Thats what erks me, I dont want 40 dudes to paint, it would have been nice to have had all options they planned from the start. But I get it, they are cash grabs and just part of the hobby =/

Before you write off the Poxwalkers, have a look at WilhelMiniatures' ones with most of the crazy spines & horns removed, they look so much better IMO and have convinced me to keep mine.

I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

Those Poxwalkers look really nice. I like the spiked original ones, but actually those that look like plaged zombies are even better!

Welp, I think I may have to get more of those Poxwalkers.

I just love the hilarity of some of those weapons - grenade flail. Oh god. Grenade flail. That's a throwback to an old Inquisitor campaign I was part of where my Chaos warband always had a rotating cultist - because we strapped half a dozen grenades to him and gave the detonator to the Magus .

And I like the spikes and horns. The random growths are fine to me (thinking some may be done up as random tree branches and the like) - it's the random tentacles that I dislike the most.

Not impressed with the Plague Marines - way too much flesh and tentacles for no real reason. Still, if the sets are cheap I may grab it just to pad some numbers out and possibly get some Primaris to much about with.

I'm actually cool with the Poxwalkers and the Maggoth Lord style horns/growths.

The idea seems to be that the horns/growths are a result of the infected being reanimated by a Daemonic virus.
