Dysartes, your memory is correct so ... well, promises promises, right? Again, the SOB fan motto: I'll believe it when I see it. And GW is showing nothing right now. And it's not clear what will be shown.

Dude they haven't shown anything because they are pushing Sisters up the production cycle so haven't finalised all the designs. They are doing this in response to feedback from the survey. Sisters are coming.

This is fantastic. I painted my sisters in 1998, if I am not mistaken, and even though I love the metal models, I have been looking forward towards plastic sisters for 20 years now.

Damn, this makes me feel old.

Great and welcome news.

I always liked Sisters back in the day, and I'll certainly be picking up the models next year.

Showing the design process as it happens is a fantastic idea. I wish they'd do that more often, especially with releasing concept art. Speaking of concept art, please hire Mark Gibbons again. Man was a legend.

Isn't that every Sisters player ever?

I'm not (just) messing with you Manchu. I've never seen a Sisters player go "That was great! So glad they released that.".

"We haven't had a Codex since 2nd Ed!"
"Ok, here's the Witch Hunter Codex filled with new rules for all the Sisters, plus new units, including new miniatures."
"We don't want to share with the Inquisition!"
"Well now there's a new edition of the game."
"You took all our rules away! We don't have a Codex any more!"
"But you said you didn't like that... *sigh* Fine! Here's a digital Codex now that the new edition has come out."
"We don't like that Codex! It's bad."
"Well we've updated the Sisters rules in the Imperial Agents book."
"We don't want to share with the Inquisition!"
"GAH!" *tears hair out*

And on and on and on and on and on!

There is no more perpetually perturbed group that Sisters players.

For some the release of Sisters is long overdue. For others it seems like it'll just be the next battlefield for a group to complain about how what they got wasn't good enough.

A friend of mine is ecstatic for this news. I'm hopeful that the main kit will be 10 strong and not a 5-strong kit for the price of 10 that can build 2 different kits.

My wallet is glad they are due next year as I have Knights to buy this year.

I already have a sizable collection of Sisters, I'm hopeful we will see new units and new weapons rather than plastic versions of what we already have so I have a reason to properly expand the army rather than just replace stuff. That might seem churlish, but as a long time Sisters player I want to be able to spend big on our plastic release.

There'll probably be new units, but of course they'll be doing new ordinary Battle Sisters squads, Celestians, Seraphim, etc. You might see the Immolator return, but that'll be the only thing carrying over from the old army, I expect.

I wonder how much they'll change? Will it be the equivalent of the change from 2nd edition metal Space Marines to the plastic kits in 3rd edition? Or more like the change from 3rd edition to 5th edition Dark Eldar?

So what you're saying is you don't have any sympathy for nearly 20 years of totally legitimate complaints from Sisters of Battle players and fans? You may find the complaints annoying, but that doesn't mean they haven't been completely justified. Aside from The original 2nd edition release, the plastic Immolator and the new Celestine every Sisters release ever has been somewhere between a mixed bag and an absolute shitshow, with plenty to be unhappy about.

I suppose if people obsessed with the Sisters of Battle miniatures didn't behave like Kanye every time something else was released ("legitimate"? In what way? it's not like anyone deserves a new release, or is being denied anything they have a right to), then others might be more receptive to their comments.

We'll find out soon enough eh.

Jake, just don't. HBMC is just sad he's going to lose his favourite punching bag

Seriously though, of course some people aren't going to be happy when the release finally comes, because some people are always unhappy with every release. All of the legit complaints though will go away, and that's what's annoying the folk who enjoy taking the piss - it's less a case of "what will Sisters players complain about now, fnar fnar" and more one of "what will I complain about now Sisters players will be happy", hah.

For me, so long as the models we eventually get are actually Sisters - ie, so long as GW don't allow the Right On Brigade to skew this new "participatory" design process so far towards Tumblr Land that we end up getting Sisters so shorn of their defining visual characteristics that they're basically just short female Primaris - I will be a happy chappie, and I'd wager the same will be true for most.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

The announcement is a good thing, and that they're announcing it a year before release is also a good thing. Announcing projects well before release is what gw SHOULD be doing and should have been doing this whole time.

Wait, people were upset with Viridyan? They couldnt keep her in stock, if i recall...

Im sure there will be a Sisters box, a Retributor box, a Seraphim box, a Command Squad/Celestan box with bling, and a bunch of character blisters, like every big release they have done lately. Kind of like how the 6th/7th Marine releases were updated Tactical, Devastator, and Assault Marine boxes.

That was almost literally my response to plastic Celestine and her Geminae: "I have been waiting for this for a long, long time and GW has not disappointed! St Celestine and here Seraphim guards look AMAZING! Cannot wait to get them."

And from the same thread:

"Wow I am so happy with St Celestine and those Seraphim, I like them more every time I see them. Didn't realize how worried I was that GW would sweep them aside or redesign them into something unrecognizable. But here they are and they look exactly right."

From here.

Feel bad for Anvil Industry, they're starting their Sisters kickstarter in April. Hopefully this won't make too much of a dent in that plan.

Doubt it. From what I can see, a significant amount of the customers for these third-party imitators is people who don't want to buy from GW out of principle, not just because they can't get GW minis. There's also people who prefer the look of the non-GW minis, which confuses me somewhat - if they don't like the models GW makes, what got them into 40k in the first place?

Well, agree with you on some of that, yeah. I think part of the market is undeniably that GW's range is dated (e.g. with the excellent Regiments bits) so knowing new GW plastics are on the horizon might make people hold off. IDK. Like I said, hope it doesn't make too much of a difference.

This is good news!

I'm not sure people realise just how long it takes for GW to plan and prepare a release, and especially an entire faction, but it's easily a year.

As far as I can tell from the video, the decision to do Sisters is a direct result of the big survey from late November last year, which shows that the "new" GW is more than willing to listen to community opinion. Once the data from the survey had been gathered and analysed, GW finally recognised the demand for plastic Sisters of Battle. We don't know exactly when they decided to produced Sisters, but the firm responsible for the survey, most likely needed a couple of weeks to analyse the data and compile a report, which they probably presented in early February, giving GW a couple of weeks to react, before they made the decision, at some point in late February, to produce plastic Sisters of Battle .

The sole reason the news doesn't contain much information, besides telling us it might happen next year, is merely because there isn't much to report yet. There hasn't even been time to produce concept art. And this is a new and different approach from GW, because when they normally preview releases the item has been at least 6 months in production. Rather, GW seems to want to involve the community in the development of this new range, or at least show us how it's proceeding in the upcoming months.

So this is good news on at least two counts; plastic Sisters, and GW not only asking for our opinions, but also being willing to listen and letting community opinion influence or even direct the decisions they make. This is a good value for a company to have.

I doubt that. Why would they be playing 40k if they have some kind of grudge against GW to the point where they won't even buy their models? I Think this is going to heavily impact both Anvil, Shieldwolf and Wargames Exclusive's not-Sisters, and I think that's exactly what GW wanted. Then again, that's the risk these companies took when they hinged large releases on the premise that another company wouldn't release the original to their imitations before it was too late.

I can see how even a reasonable person might think I'm just being contrarian because, after all, GW is counting on this being received as wonderful news and most people don't care enough about Sisters to question that.

To those reasonable people, I answer: For those of us who have kept this candle lit, the big questions are not IF or really even WHEN. Rather, we've been anxious about HOW. To what extent will it be a re-release or reboot instead of a release? Will our favorite faction be recognizable? Celestine and her Geminae were a very welcome reassurance albeit a very limited one, given how many further questions remain: what about Repentia? how much of any Sisters release will be devoted to non-Sisters units (Inquisition, Ecclesiarchy)? etc., etc.

About long-term lead time marketing, please note that companies that do this effectively begin by revealing product and then spending a few months hyping it. What we have here is only vague, qualified information, nothing at all tangible and 9-21 months of ... what? More teasing? Some kind of live development? (Almost certainly not, at least I hope not.) Again, I'd rather any faction other than Sisters serve as GW's labrat in figuring out how to market something prospectively 1.5 years or more before release.

Great news though! Was just looking at my old 5th Edition rulebook, how far we've come since then - Adeptus Mechanicus, Genestealer cults, Knights, Custodes, Harlequins, Deathwatch, Thousand Sons, Death Guard, Necromunda (including a 40k Beastman and a Squat)... What a time to be alive.

You are overthinking it. They announced it because they want to allay the fears and complaints of SoB fans - they are responding to the criticism about the lack of releases by saying WE ARE DOING THIS. Production has long lead times and they are pushing it up, but there are limits. In an ideal world there would already be a full range of SoB plastics, but there aren't. They want to allay your fears. They are saying don't worry - we are working on it. Isn't this preferable to silence and teases?

Concerns over what they will be exactly are reasonable and appropriate for every release, mind.

Overthinking X is what fans of X do. For everyone else, this is totally fine - I get it.

As for moving them up in the production schedule, I wonder what got bumped. As in what has GW now decided is an even lower priority than Sisters of Battle? (My guess remains Jokaero Liberation Army.)

Also it's such a big fan request they want to make sure what the fans want. Misgranting a request like this can backfire spectacularly.

Also if they decided to do SoB when they got the results of the survey, that means it hasn't been more than 3-4 months. GW production times for a new line can be over a year up to 18 months.

Idoneth are probably the next big release. I'm willing to bet we'll see them before the end of april.

None of this is anything to do with this announcement though. We have literally gone from a perpetual wait to having a date for it. 1 year to go.

They will design what they will design. Unless something is horrifically received it won't change and as has been pointed out, the sisters stuff we have had has remained true to the sisters aesthetic.

The wait is nearly over. Yay.
