Just love the interactions between Characters Anrgon's and £We humanity that's being stripped away.

Runner-up: Return of Nagash, Mannfredd and Arkhan, so unapologetically villanous and yet so entertaining.

Is that the one where Arkhan just can't even? I loved his portrayal as a liche so ancient that evil had become tedious for him.

Titanicus was a good one, really gets across the dual reality of the Imperium, gives us some good descriptions of average Imperial life, and has some awesome Titan combat to boot!

Double Eagle is similar and very good, but replacing Titans with fighters. I especially love the religious inspiration element to Abnett's 40k novels.

However, if I had to choose one book alone out of all of BL's 40k library, it would be Ciaphas Cain, the first Omnibus.

Storm of Iron and 15h... the same books keep being mentionned throughout the internet, I guess they will be my next read (I am interested in The first heretic, too) !

Storm of Iron is pretty good, and it ties into the Ultramarines books, so I would recommend reading that, followed by Nightbringer and Warriors of Ultramar if you enjoyed it.

I personally found 15 Hours pretty weak. Dead Men Walking explored similar themes more successfully, in my opinion.

On the 40k side, it is quite hard to choose for me. Abnett is a god amongst the authors and I loved the Gaunt's Ghosts -series, both Eisenhorn an d Ravenor, as well es bis HH-stuff. But I also enjoyed Nick Kymes Salamander s stuff, especially 'Tome of Fire '. But the favorite ist still Necropolis. Awesome book, Great charcters get introduced. Honorary mentions zu Emperor's Mercy and Cadian Blood.

Fantasy: Skavenslayer. Great read, Love the skaven.

Any Ciaphas Cain, Helsreach or the recent Andy Clark Knights books which are scratching my BattleTech itch big time

The first four will always be my favourites, they are what made me read all the others. Apart from that I would have to say, actually I'll need to make a top 5 list; in no particular order:

1. Betrayer
2. First Heretic
3. Decent of Angels
4. Vengful Spirit
5. The Emperor of Mankind

Double Eagle is particularly fine. As is Sabbat Martyr and the Cain book Death or Glory.

Cadian Blood, Dead Men Walking, Necropolis, Death or Glory and Traitor General, with Helsreach close nearby.

The run of Gaunt's Ghosts books from Necropolis to Sabbat Martyr is really good. However, I'd recommend stopping there, as the books after Sabbat Martyr, which feels like the intended end of the series, all feel tacked on and phoned in.

The first HH book I read was Flight of the Eisenstein. My first glimpse at a Primarch and what Chaos Corruption looks like.

I believe I read Lord of the Night before that though.

Needles to say, I started collecting Death Guard and Night Lords afterwards.

Space Marine (admittedly pre-BL), Titanicus, Dead Sky Black Sun, Know No Fear. Xenos.

"Bloody typical, they've gone back to metric without telling us."

"As the days go by, we face the increasing inevitability that we are alone in a godless, uninhabited, hostile and meaningless universe. Still, you've got to laugh haven't you?"

Cozy cockpit of an Imperial Knight

Xenos for me, a nice blend of space opera and domestic 40k along with some very memorable one-liners that I'll never forget. "Come and let me show you how I killed Eyclone."

A close second is the first Ravenor book, which while light on plot takes you places and does a great job of it. Another great opening, some great one-liners as well.

Finally.. Prince of Crows, a novella but an awesome one about Sevatar. If I were to describe the story in one word it would have to be "snarky", as this story drips with it. Has some great moments and memorable pieces of dialogue that really work well.

Malithos: Sevatar, are you mad?
Sevatar: I don't think so. I feel fine.

A few moments later...

Var Jahan: Sevatar, you are insane.
Sevatar: So I am often told.

Ian Watson's Inquisition War trilogy was crazy fun.

But for more canonical 40k, I'd say Dead Men Walking.

Pretty much anything original from Dan Abnett is going to be great. I think I enjoyed The Saint arc the most though.

I enjoyed Talon of Horus and Black Legion a lot. I think it does a lot to explore what chaos space marines are.

Storm of Iron deserves a lot of credit because it was the first book to give a straight up villain victory

Storm of Iron for a single book.

When it comes to omnibus' I'd have to say Ultramarines.

Series-wise: Gaunt's Ghosts.

Honorable mention: I picked up the first Inquisitor novel in paperback when came out in the ancient times and it really blew my mind at the time. Not sure how it'll stand up to a fresh reading, but I recently picked up the omnibus, so we'll see.

The first few Gotrek and Felix were quite enjoyable also.

And Ciaphas Cain Hero of the Imperium were glorious!
