I just ordered the POD version so I'll give a report when it arrives, but it sounds like it will be quite a wait between the holidays and my refusal to pay for upgraded shipping...

With the added cost of postage, it's just prohibitively expensive for a softback. :(
Shipping for me was only about $6.50, which makes me think there must be a print centre in Europe if not UK itself. However I suspect the biggest portion of the overall cost for you must still be the book itself, which for me was very reasonable.. but that might just be because of the discount I got for having already purchased the PDF.
Darn it, now that I'm thinking about it, I should really have purchased two physical copies!

I have ordered quite a few POD books from RPGNow/WargameVault/DriveThru — quality was so-so five years back but has improved a lot. It’s still not as great as something actually published in print but it’s a lot closer now than before.

Has anyone in the States had this printed yet by someplace like Officemax/depot/staples? I'm wondering if a spiralbound B&W printjob on top of the $20 PDF might be a better way to go than a three-week ship time of a POD just for the halfway decent shipping price.
Its been a while since I had something of this many pages printed, so I don't remember their rates.

Someone in the FB group quoted 38USD to get it printed at a FedEx, which is more than the POD copy shipped.

Lulu is cheaper to print and has decent shipping costs but you need to buy the PDF first so ends up costing more and is a complete hassle.

Yeah, printing at a professional print shop (particularly on good paper) is ludicrously expensive in the states. Obviously worse in colour.

Yeah, I just did some looking and it's about 30 bucks to print it at Office Depot. Grr....

RPGNow/DriveThru has printers in both the UK and USA. I have only every used the UK one. Print Quality is 'pretty good'. It's not up to the standard of traditional print, and the paper is a tad thin, but overall, it's a good look book and you might not realize it was POD if you picked it up in a shop.
I think the shipping is a flat cost, so it's a tad pricey if ordering one thing, but better if ordering multiple copies/products.

I just picked up the print on demand copy, and am now skimming the included pdf. The game looks really fun. The (cheap) shipping option was just $5.14, which isn't too bad. Except for the 1-3 weeks part. That part isn't too awesome.
But it was nice of them to offer "overnight" shipping for $95. LOL

I got mine today as well, so even with media shipping it was less than two weeks. If you're buying the pdf anyway and live somewhere the shipping isn't too expensive I'd say it's a no brainer, however you'd never mistake it for a regular Osprey Frostgrave supplement or something. I would have preferred if they had excluded the large scenario and printed the main rules on better quality paper.

Thanks for checking it out guys. I agree the paper is a bit thin, but not badly so. I could have released the big campaign at the end as a separate product (although it wouldn't have had any effect on the paper quality), but I wanted to make sure that everyone had a lot of play-potential with just the main rulebook.

I’m getting a copy of this for new year solo gaming. I’m changing it slightly to be Witch Hunters travelling through Norfolk during the English Civil War and seeing what they find.

I'll be doing similar. My games will be Imperial agents in the Drakwald/Great Forest of Warhammer. Lots of opportunity for monsters and cultist chenanigans in the trackless depths and tiny villages off the beaten path.

Since it wasn't published by Osprey I'd love to see somebody like CMoN buy it. They could really use another Kickstarter release with some high quality rules and it would be easy to make a starter set with cross compatibility to Zombicide:BP and Massive Darkness.

Afraid that’s the exact opposite of what I’d like........the CMON KS churn and burn.
Just have a publisher produce a nice hardback and be done with it.

There will be a print-on-demand hardback version coming sometime in the new year. I have had a couple offers from more main-stream publishers, but so far I have turned the down as I am having too much fun self-publishing it.

Is this a reskin of Frostgrave/Ghost Archipelago?
I notice it's d20 the same and I saw a comment about a someone making their warband with a ranger and trainee?
Does it need a Boss, subboss and band of red shirts in the same way?

I tried dabbling with 40k9/10 again and tried AoS3 - Nice models, naff games, but I'm enjoying HH2 and loving Battletech Classic and Alpha Strike. |

Sort of. The base rules are very similar but when building your group there is no equivalent of the apprentice (Frostgrave) or warden (Ghost Archipelago). Instead the only 'powerful' guy is the Ranger himself, and you spend resources to fill out the rest of the party with archers, rogues, dogs, knights and the like. Each companion type will feel like one of the henchmen or crewmen types you could take in the other games but the big difference here is that they ALL gain experience and can level up.
