I'm eager to see what black templars will be like for some reason. possiably because this is their first chance to, since the 6th edition merger, come out feeling like a distinct unique force,

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Indeed. They are so different from the regular Chapters, so hopefully the new rules reflect that well. I am looking at probably making a small Detachment of Black Templars to go with my Crimson Fists for a Last Wall force (also some Imperial Fists as well).

If I was going to roll a vanilla marine dex supplement force I'd run iron hands.

Now hear me out on this one. It's going to sound like a chase the meta answer, but I did run iron hands for quite some time back during 4th ed. Way back then, you could do some FoC switching stuff for Dreads. That was Iron hands centric in one of those pick your own traits type deals.

It also let you take a tech marine as a commander with some slightly buffed stats. I believe at the time you had to take a Captain/Chapter Master as one of your HQs, but this let you take the tech marine instead. As well it allowed you to take Dreads in Elites and Heavy support, which I did, still have those dreads as a matter of fact.

So yeah, I'd run Iron hands if I was going to run any of them as that was my vanilla chapter of choice from well over a decade back now.

I started building an all primaris - secretly founded - alpha legion seed based - custom chapter, the "chained alphas" and so I'm trying to use the RG supplement to make them roll.

I'm not really sure if that's a valid idea though, maybe I'd be better of with using custom traits in addition with some successor shenanigans... needs some games to show the further approach.

None, my "supplement" is envisioned by GW to be the punching bag.

GW:"Space marines got too many options to balance, therefore we decided to legends HH units."
Players: "why?!? Now we finally got decent plastic kits and you cut them?"
Chaos marines players: "Since when are Daemonengines 30k models and why do i have NO droppods now?"
GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!"
Chaos players: Guess i stop playing or go to HH.

Hey, look at it this way, at least you aren't guard. Even in our heroic stories of glory we lose like 80% of our forces.

I played a narrative game against a guy who used his Alpha Legion as RG, really thematic and definitely can be managed!

I'm playing Ultras because my army is painted as such.

I think I just need to get some more time practicing... so far I definitely like the supp and the army.
They are on their way being painted appropriately.

I've mostly got Dark Angels and Deathwatch until recently.

I've always wanted another marine army and expected I would do a successor to the Salamanders with a Japanese/samurai theme, but I was sitting on a bunch of marines from shadowspear that just didn't fit my Dark Angels. When the Ravenguard teasers came out, I started really getting sucked in and I'm now part way through completing that force. They are everything I wanted in a second marine force....more indirect, commando feel, suited the tacticool look of the phobos units. Definitely hooked.

I still may revisit the Samurai/Salamanders, but it won't be anytime soon.

edit: As a side note, when building my Deathwatch, I always liked adding Dark Angel, Salamanders, and Ravenguard models to the units, so I guess it was always there....I just didn't know it (how ravenguard!)

I am very bitter about the state of Chaos Space Marines.

You know, everytime I see Helsreach I shake my head at Ultramarines: The Movie. Take note GW, THIS is how it's done.

Hells yeah man! This is so epic.

As an aside, when you run your marines, how many Primaris intercession squads do you run, and do you run them as 5 or 10 man? Or are you running Primaris at all? Asking, as I’m contemplating picking up a second intercessor squad for my games.

<EDIT: Confounding GW names - meant intercessors (is, Primaris tactical), not aggressors>
