You maybe suprised by the idea, but there are countries in the world when people don't do passive aggresive stuff. If they ask a question, they really do mean them. I had to have the idea of friendly western banter explained to me a few times, because in eastern europe you don't say stuff like that about others and expect it to be just fun.

There is nothing wrong with liking the size and looks of primaris marines, but not liking their lore explanation.

Thank you for understanding my position on this issue. I do apologize to some here if I came off rude, but if it's not clear that I despise the idea of using a new Primaris label to justify a redesigned of an existing model, I want to make it clear that it really bloody pisses me off.

And also for the conversion ideas, that'd be very helpful indeed! Trying to saw off old marine legs in half had proven to be more trouble then I thought when I can't get an even cut with the cutters.

The normal weapons from the Devastator box fit Primaris just fine. Especially the Missile Launchers. Some of the ones with cables running to the backpacks might need some adjusting, but not much.

And if you want to get one gun in bulk rather than needing to buy a bunch of Devastator kits Forge World makes underslung and shoulder-mounted upgrade packs for a lot of heavy weapons that have resin cables you can heat-bend to get to the backpacks.

(I really like the underslung missile launchers with the sickle magazines, I kind of want to build some Primaris ML troopers now.)

Using words like "despise" and "disgust" seem a bit extreme for talking about plastic toy soldiers. It's hyperbolics.

I despise the taste and looks of fermented cabbage. And it is just cabbage. And I even like its non fermented version, when cooked. My mom hates, rates , mouse, moles etc.
So I can easily imagine someone feeling disgust about primaris lore. And to be less food and living things, the place I live in is divided in to supporters of two football clubs. And people hate each over that. To a point where people were beaten, and suffered permanent damage, including death over the last few decades.

If you have to kill, then kill in the best manner. If you slaughter, then slaughter in the best manner. Let one of you sharpen his knife so his animal feels no pain.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.

From my perspective the Primaris Marines are both beautiful and not something I want to own. If you like them and want to own them, I don't see why not, although the infiltrator ones seem to be the most compatible.

I've got a problem with the starting premise. Someone saying "I like this marine model for its appearance, but I like that marine model for its stats", that's suspect.

If someone likes the Primaris minis better than the regular marine figures, and they're "not a competitive player", why isn't that person just building a collection out of just the Primaris models? From the discussions I've seen, you can play with just Primaris models if you want. And over time, the Primaris line is probably going to get better at whatever weakness they have at the moment, especially as they keep making more Primaris versions of the old characters.

Disclaimer: If the original poster meant to write "I want to convert Primaris models into old school True Scale Marines"...

I've seen people build primaris devastators quite often - usually the motivation is wanting to have a heavy weapon squad to round out their army, as primaris are kind of lacking that. Similar issue for honor guard, assault marines or sternguard.

I don't think there is any old marine power armor unit that would warrant such a suspicion.

I'm sorry, but how does "Primaris Devastators" not fit exactly into the "The only thing I like about this unit is its stats" problem category?

I personally don't care whether someone goes out, puts together a box of Space Marines, paints it grey with grey highlighting and then proceeds to rotate through each of the however-many Space Marine books with that squad (or their entire force, for that matter). But I reserve the right to get a bunch of googly eyes and put them on a string when I get too much eye rolling strain from listening to the protests that they're not doing that to be able to take advantage of each of the new books.

The same thing happens when someone starts out with the phrase "I'm a casual player" and then describes wanting to do cherry picking conversions. The grief that results comes from doing a cherry picking conversion and not being willing to admit it.

The idea of a unit that consists of small arms squaddies *and* specialists in a single cohesive fireteam is awesome. It's possible to love that concept independent of "stats". It's very different, thematically, from a "Every soldier carries the same gun" mentality. Some of us loved the idea that a squad consisted of small arms supporting a heavy weapon and/or a specialist embedded in a fireteam.

The idea of a unit hopping in a METAL BAWKS and driving up-board is awesome. that METAL BAWKS doesn't need to be a main battle tank - the doods are there to fight, the METAL BAWKS is just there to drive them around. Again, very different thematically. Again, possible to love entirely independent of "stats".

The idea that you should bring a Melta specialist if you might run into heavy armor/ a bulkhead, or a Plasma Gun if you're expecting a lot of heavy armor, or a Flamer for clearing buildings, depending on your need - while most of the work gets done with rifles is awesome to a lot of people. Again, not purely a "stats" thing.

The idea that your squad brings a heavy machine gun for anti-infantry work, a massive laser for hunting tanks, or a Muti-Melta for heavy melting, along with squaddies with small arms to handle firefights is again something some people find awesome or love - and again is not purely a "stats" thing.

"OldMarines" are awesome because they're marine-y. They're infantry who bring the right tool for the job in mixed kit squads, who can tackle most threats and have specialist tools for specialist needs. They're awesome because they're tougher than most, shootier than most, choppier than most, faster than most, and more adapatable than most.

More OT:
Go for it. But don't include any "actual" Primaris in your list. Mixing Primaris and non-Primaris, but using the same models for both, is just going to be confusing.

Everything should be generally WYSIWYG. A Bolt Rifle is a Bolt Gun if you've got no Bolt Rifles in your list. Same with Plasma Incinerators -> PG. But it would help if your loadouts would not be legal as a Primaris unit. A Primaris kit armed with a Missile Launcher or Flamer is clearly a Tac squad, not a Primaris squad, after all.

Is it possible that they might want their unit to be in some way interesting and distinct rather than a copy-paste of whatever everyone else is using? Or is anyone who wants to do anything the rules don't explicitly tell them they can do automatically a powergamer trying to cheat?

Why not play all marines with 2 wounds? Agree on points and see how it goes.

This is what I'm doing. I barely play, and when I do, it's third edition. But I really do like the aesthetics of Bigger Marines, with some details/equipment of the classics. It looks great IMO too:

I'd love them to just squish the difference. Primaris might be bigger, stronger, tougher. But is the difference significant enough to necessitate a stat difference? After all, if the average IG Vet is as good a marskman as a millenia-old Exarch statwise, it's not that much of a stretch for Primaris Marines to be "just as good" as non-Primaris statwise.

Plus, intecessors should basically be Tacs. Give them Rhinos, Specials, and Heavies. And I want 2A 2W on my ASM...

I'm actually in agreement with you on this. It would not be terribly hard (though it would be terribly time consuming) to go over stats and fix it so Manlet Marines and Primaris can be consolidated.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Granted I'm for stat differences with Exarchs again, which is once again not a hard task.

I'd play with you - I have no problem with people running their 'man in power armour with boltgun' miniature as 'man in power armour with boltgun' statblock.

Similarly, man in power armour with lasercannon, main in power armour with plasmarifle, man in power armour with heavy plasma weapon.

if you wanted to field weapons that dont have a direct analogue, like meltaguns or flamers, I'd ask that you convert or model those somehow.
