Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

This is an example of what a very small indie can do with a GW licence:

Another small studio made this:

And this indie title from a few years back when the IP got wider release:

And this is what a slightly larger indie company can do, when they get a GW licence, make a reasonable game and then come back for moar:

I don't need to showcase higher budget titles like Vermintide and Total War.

If Dakka Squadron sucks it sucks, let's wait and see. It looks like early development, the low quality models of individual orcs might not matter when your in game POV is from a Dakkajet. Maybe we get hoomies to kill, different stuff to fly and fings to shoot. I wont write off the game at this stage. If its cheap fun it might be worth a tenner.

Sorry but those gfx are utter utter garbage.
Even it was in super early pre alpha stage, why on earth would you release a trailer with such poor showing?

hard pass.

the graphics may not be great, but its not really a problem if the game is good as you'll swiftly stop noticing them as being poor when your playing

and i'd much rather the time and effort of a small team were spent on the game rather than anything else

now whether there is a fun game there we'll havre to wait an see

REALLY annoying voice aside that video does sum things up well.
Plus I think it also highlights one additional aspect that went unmentioned, esp for the AAA and stronger middleweight developers. Because GW retains a strong quality control on the IP usage, I think it discourages AAA and bigger middle weight developers who don't want to make a Warhammer game; but who would like the IP for the free marketing.

It's basically attempting to beat the Hollywood effect whereby once gained, an existing IP is then warped into whatever the studio and marketing team for the studio wants. Instead GW's tight control means that if you get a AAA developer wanting that IP then they want it to specifically make a Warhammer game.

I think this helps reinforce the IP quality aspects and probably has a helping hand in product quality control too since the developers are working on a project they want to work; not just one to pay the bills.

As for Dakka Squadron I'm excited to hear the music as it seems they've got that right. The graphics were very dated looking and I did think "Oh its a mobile game" when seeing the video. Perhaps this is just really early stuff and it will improve; or their plan is to early-access or such and improve over time based on sales rates.

Good breakdown but not strictly accurate. While some licences are for very minor portions of the IP, some small companies have got more extensive licences. Gladius for instance built a 4X which included some of the core faction of 40K and had expansions that added more, when you have Space Marines, CSM, IG, Orks, Necrons and Nids there isn't too much more to add. I dont think the game was excluded from having the other factions, probably it was the developers choice not to license them.

yes but gladius was published by Slitherine who also published warhammer 40k armageddon and Sanctus reach. both games that wheren't total disasters (I quite liked Armageddon for what it was) so they're a publisher that has proven capable eneugh to get that larger chunk of the IP

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Probably a bad idea to go for an aviation game in the first place, if they don't have experience and budget, just go for an ork kart racing game.

Agreed entirely. This would have made far more sense for me. Make Carmageddon but reskin with Orks, profit.

In terms of cheap mobile games? I seriously enjoyed Snotling Fling.

For a ‘bored now, need a five minute break’ free to play, what better than lobbing Snotlings and Gobbos at Castle Walls to knock them down?
