Banned for mentioning squats on the GW Forum? Ahh I'm not surprised. Whilst I was never on them I did hear how it was basically a firestorm of missmanagement come the end.

I think it’s an easy sell, the squats told the imperium about the tyranids but diverted all their forces to defend non ab-humans. Squats are furious about the bigotry and being left to be eaten by nids

Now they are out for revenge using super tech.

What I don’t want to see is axes and gyrocopters. Something really unique would be a refreshing change to primaris fatigue

Personally I'd love helicopters and hi tech fantasy weapons like energy shields.

I could see them working in a similar way to Scions- a sort of engineering/ sapper auxiliary contingent for the guard but just about fieldable on their own.. lots of mortars, armoured dozers and so on

Not so much that as just an all around bad idea to begin with. Things automatically removed and ban worthy by mods: Any criticism of GW or staff members, any mention of OOP products(especially Squats and Zoats, both of which earned you warnings/glares for mentioning at Games Days too because it became a meme to do so), any mention of other companies and aftermarket parts. Basically, they wanted everyone to be happy go lucky corporate shills that only ever praised GW and their products instead of actual conversation.

Not really. Ratlings are the equivalent of hobbits.

I think having a look at the Forge Father range for Mantic shows there is some great potential for a space-dwarf type concept.

Especially with the giant kits on offer these days you would think a lot of the things confined to Epic (and which made the faction much more characterful and enduring in that system) could also work in 28mm scale now.

Yes it was heavily moderated (which I guess you have to expect - although specific rules around OOP miniatures was excessive). I think though that even by the standards of late 90s it was very poor technically and not easy to use. I assume a requirement came about eventually for it to be updated and they probably decided it wasn't worth the trouble (bearing in mind this was some years before the 'fortress wall' and the company's policy of ignoring the internet and social media - which didn't really exist back then in the form it does today - had come into being).

I think that's what those of us Squats realistically want. Would I want a bunch of new units? Sure, but really I'd be fine with what's listed above. A transport would be the only thing I think the existing range could really use.

Would really like to be able to have modern sculpts of my RT/2nd force. Especially with how good all of the biker units that have been coming out as of late(exception is Cawlkart64), I really see them knocking it out of the park.
Hell, look @ the Kharadrons in AOS.

obviously gw could do space dwarves if they want to.

The combat engineer idea could be a good way to give them a different flavour from the other armies. Basically have units that can pull all sorts of shenanigans involving terrain: put down barricades to create defensive positions, fortify buildings, lay barbed wire or minefields to block some areas, blow up enemy cover, that sort of thing... I don't know if that would work well in-game, but it would be pretty unique and thematic.

I was about to ask what they could have to set them apart. They seem like stronger IG or weaker SM, so basically SOB.

Maybe Fiest Born can be relaunched as Squats. Stronger than IG, weaker than Primaris.

I get both MONEY=GOOD and WHFB in SPaaaaaaaaaace but is there a need or even a niche for them?

There's a degree of customer demand for them, and there has been for many years - that was a good enough reason to reintroduce GSC as a faction, and will be a good enough reason for an eventual Traitor Guard/R&H/Dark Mechanicus faction as and when those drop.

Off the top of my head, a release slightly bigger than Harlequins would probably suit as a test run. Off the top of my head, you'd want a Living Ancestor (psychic) HQ, a Warlord (fighty/aura character) HQ and possibly an Engineer HQ; your Squat PBI (Troops); Exo-Armour (Elites); Bikes (probably with a HW Trike) for FA; and Mole Mortar/Thudd Gun arty in HS, possibly with an Engineer. In Epic they used the Rhino as a transport, so you could just stick to that to save releasing a new Dedicated Transport, though if I were GW I'd consider adding a unique transport option. Chuck the parts for a banner in the Exo-Armour and Troops boxes, like the Custodes do, and that opens up the options for a couple more Elite characters.

That would give you three clam-packs and four boxes (or five with a DT) as an initial release. Terrain piece is optional. That's one clam-pack more than Harlies at present, so not an excessive test release.

Cyber-Berserkers would be possible, but I don't think you need them in an initial release - in the same way you don't need Exo-Armour on Trikes in an initial release. Thunderers (HW Squat squads) would also be possible for an initial release, depending on the HW situation in the Troops set.

See, I think that if GW decides to bring them back they are going to end up being VERY different than we remember them. I wouldn't at all be surprised if pretty much everything about their old lore is considered no longer canon.

That being said: I'm down for whatever space-dwarfs they want to bring me :-)

I think they can keep Living ancestors, warlords, exoarmour and hearth guard. Not sure what they will do with the bikers. They dropped limo's from GSC and gave them a grittier feel. Hopefully they do the same with Squats and I'd like them to be independent of the Imperium rather than just an imperial add on faction..

Especially how to do it wrong. The tank especially is fascinating, as it was designed by someone who apparently never looked at a tank or worked out how armor functioned.
You don't put the seams between armor layers on top to catch shells.

They also managed to make the original squat models look interesting, complex and nuanced, which is quite an achievement.

Hah! Yes some of the designs aren't too sharp. But think the basic infantry are pretty cool, I painted up a few of them

Spoiler:

There are some great 6mm designs in the Outcast miniatures 'Grudd' range too, which have built on some of the designs in the classic GW Epic squat range.
