I'd heard of Crusade but didn't really know what it was. Have just looked through the articles on Warhammer community and can say I'm definitely going to be playing it, may even have to start a new faction...

I can hear some chittering and gnashing teeth in the distance

I've been playing a while, my first model was a lead marine and my first White Dwarf was bound with staples

Custodes in Crusade would be interesting. 50 power of Custodes is, what... two, two-and-a-half models?

In 8th you could get 9 Terminators for 50PL. The Shield Captain in Terminator Armor, 2 Banner Men, 2 squads of 3 Terminators.

I'm going to start with my T'au, since they're mostly modeled and painted. Bor'kan will probably make an appearance (Y'vahra, y'know), as will Farsight (I like themed commanders).

I might make an entirely separate Crusade army with T'au special characters, or just eventually grow my T'au Crusade into a massive blob of choices.

Eventually, I also hope to get ~50 PL of Space Wolves proxies, ~50 PL of Ultramarines proxies (including Gorillaman), and 50 PL of Imperial Knight proxies. It'll be several editions before I have an excuse to expand 'em, since I've got a huge backlog of projects already.

Slightly sad, though, that the Crusade rules aren't going to allow me to make a proxied Knight-Castigator a warlord w/ traits or give 'em a relic, since both of those are gated behind stratagems, and detachments can't get around that in Crusade. My (eventual) Krastigator will have to represent a Warden, I suppose. No big loss.

Myself and my fellow casual players at our club are all over the idea of playing Crusade, in addition to regular games, The competitive players have just thumbed their nose at it (they were brought our Vigilus campaign to a halt because it wasn't "balanced" in their favour).

My space marine chapter will look forward to this, and when I start my second army this will be a good entrance for them.

Crusade? I will be playing a list with A LOT of Autocannon vehicles. That means Tauroxes, Leman Russ Exterminators, and Sentinels. The reason is very simple: Upgrading the D of the Autocannons on each vehicle makes them 3D, so every failed save a Primaris makes... one dies!

I will not rest until the Tabletop Imperial Guard has been reduced to complete mediocrity. This is completely reflected in the lore.

I will, since our local Gw is going to host a sort of Online Event where we don't have to play in store as long as we do project updates for our Crusade Roster/Armies.

I'm hoping to bulk up the lore on my Hive Fleet with a Tendril being the main focus of this.

I only play Orks.. but Crusade seems more appealing to elite armies than armies where ever unit is sort of designed to catch a bullet.

I think the more elite Ork units could easily be leveled up through Crusade. And think how hilarious it would be to get a unit of Gretchin to max level and give them 4 Battle Honors!!

After all, even if a unit is completely wiped out in battle, there's only a 1/6 chance they lose xp or gain a battle scar.

I mean I don't play in general, but if I did, crusade sounds a lot down my alley. I like ongoing campaigns with growth and naming your characters, which is probably coming from my Pen and Paper roots.

I will probably create two Crusade Forces. A Space Marine one, because I've worked on a custom chapter since coming back into the hobby in 2005, and a squat army, because Kharadron Overlords look amazing and I still resent that GW took the squats away all those years ago.

How about you? Will you play Crusade? If so, will you use an existing army that you have? Or will you use this as an excuse to start a new army, and learn it from scratch like playing an RTS tutorial?

Probably not, unless my friends want to, in which case it'll be either Custodes or GK.

A: in a system where the survival of units is pretty important, I think I'd find more success with a small number of much harder to destroy units that with an army centered around having lots of expendable forces.
B: neither are yet a full competitive size.

Guardsmen, hear me! Cadia may lie in ruin, but her proud people do not! For each brother and sister who gave their lives to Him as martyrs, we will reap a vengeance fiftyfold! Cadia may be no more, but will never be forgotten; our foes shall tremble in fear at the name, for their doom shall come from the barrels of Cadian guns, fired by Cadian hands! Forward, for vengeance and retribution, in His name and the names of our fallen comrades!

I’m really looking forward to Crusade and plan to build up my Death Guard from the models I have from Know No Fear/First Strike into a more sizeable army. Though I’m also tempted to focus on my Marines as I’m loving the new Indomitus models.

I can't wait to get started; we were supposed to play the Spacehulk game that seeded the planet with Purestrain genestealers on Saturday, but it got sidelined when my partner got an unexpected booking for a live performance.

Might be able to do it tonight, but I was hoping to do a Bat Rep and film the session. Think I'll prepared the battlefield for the first 6 GSC games; all of them are ultra small games; we expect to play 3 games per session.

I'm considering it, especially if the local game store decides to use it for the campaign they were doing before Covid struck.

If I do it will probably be starting with the Marine half of Indomitus. I haven't played loyal Marines since 1997.

Personal story - I have six kids, four of them are boys. I managed to "persuade" the older 3 boys to play Warhammer with me, but I don't think they ever really enjoyed it as much as I did. About three years ago I decided to let them come to me if they wanted to play.

We stopped playing. One of them graduated high school, joined the Air Force, and moved away. Another one graduated this year and will join the Air Force soon.

But Crusade has gotten them really interested in playing again. The one who just graduated started assembling orks that he's had around the house for a year yesterday. He primered them up today, and has already written up his Crusade order of battle.

The third son has had a Riptide in the house for a year, waiting for him to assemble it, and a pathfinder squad for two years. Between yesterday and today, he most of both assembled and asked me for help magnetizing the Riptide so he can change weapons if need be. We laid out all his models and wrote up a Crusade order of battle for him today.

I ordered the rules, the crusade book, and the chapter approved from GW direct, and it's all supposed to arrive on Saturday. Early next week, once the paint dries and everything, I should be playing my first WH40K game with my boys in 3 years.

Needless to say, I'm a big fan of Crusade already.

I'm less fussed about tournaments, and am looking at making a heavily converted army (I'm thinking of kitbashing CSM and Ad Mech together, that or kitbashing stuff to make Dark Mechanicus) for Crusade. Because at the end I have an army that will have a story behind it and will look great, even if I take it to a local RTT.

Crusade definitely looks interesting to me. I read the WarCom Sisters of Battle 5 part series of articles they did.

I'm thinking of doing an AdMech and Guard army but need to figure out how the CP system works and whether I can for some friendly games. The last time I played 40k was 4th edition so this new stuff seems a bit confusing.

I've now managed to play three Crusade games and they are some of the most fun I've had with 40k. So far: one win, one loss and one draw. And in none of them have I ended the game with more than two units still alive - absolutely brutal.

The thing that I'm noticing is that even if you lose, you still get something. You're incentivised to push for those little wins - get one more kill, achieve one more Agenda, that sort of thing. Even if none of your units level up in a game, they invariably come so close and it leaves you itching for your next game.

I now have:
- A Chaos Lord who just can't catch a break and seems incapable of killing anything.
- An Exalted Champion who was gained the attention of a daemonic patron (counts as Conversion Field) and wields a cursed axe (counts as Axe of Blind Fury). If he weren't so damn blood-blinded, he'd realise that he's almost as powerful as the Chaos Lord who leads the force.
- A Berzerker Champion who has modified his plasma pistol to be easier to control (+1 to hit) and able to fire bursts (exploding 6s to hit) - both were rolled for randomly.
- A Berzerker Champion who has a custom pair of wrist-mounted chainaxes that count as lightning claws. They've now been anointed with the souls of the damned (exploding 6s to hit, +1 damage - also rolled for randomly).
- A Helbrute piloted by an individual who had well and truly gone insane even before his internment, but occasionally has episodes of lucidity (reroll 1s to hit).

Absolutely loving it.

Love your "counts as" to personalize it to your faction; it's a very cool way to make your army feel unique while we wait for dexes to give us genuine unique content.

I'm going to have to look at it again through both sororitas and GSC filters.

I think the spirit of crusade; starting with models and adjusting them a bit at a time with new models and equipment, sounds like a great way to play. I'm less enamored with all the little bonuses and such that add a ton of bookkeeping to the experience.

I'm a little concerned about it as well. In the early stages it's not too bad - a few units with upgrades or penalties in the equivalent of a 1000pt game isn't hard to keep track of. But I'm not sure about the later stages.

I'm hoping that by playing a bunch of smaller games, you get to learn the "personalities" of each unit and that that helps to memorise which units have which upgrades. It's part of the reason each of my unit champions has unique wargear.

Yes. Marines only I’m struggling to make a starting list. The field manual only lists points not power level but I’m assuming 25 power level is 250 points but I’m only able to fit 5 Intercessors and one Lt and still have about 40 or 50 points left with nothing to fill up those points.

Power is listed in your codex, though it's looking like we'll be getting an update on it in the next couple of weeks. Normal conversion is around 20pts per PL, give or take 10% or so.

probably GSC. So many of the upgrade options for GSC are so utterly unusable under the points system that going power level will be a way to put my actual models on the table. I just wish I could do what I usually do in campaign settings with GSC which is start with almost entirely Genestealers, then progress to having more and more cult units as the uprising continues, but I don't think that's in the cards with how annoying it is to add units to your crusade roster.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"
