When I first replied to you it was more to show the female Farseers that we never got - the road not taken by GW, as it were - but also because, thinking about it, I honestly couldn't tell you what my fav GW mini is.

But I've been thinking about it since you posted this, and trying to come up with an answer. Immediately my mind went to Age of Sigmar/Warhammer Fantasy, specifically because I don't play it, so if I've bought any AoS/WFB minis not for a specific reason then it must be something I really like. I have also not included terrain, as I'd never be able to choose.

I mean, I think this is the best Stormcast mini GW makes. But I've never bought it. I think this mini is amazing, but again, never bought it. The only AoS mini I've bought because I just had to have it, rather than for any specific reason or purpose, were the Myrmourn Banshees. They're still in the box. So, none of those really qualify.

So I thought back to when I started - before I started playing actually - and really there was one mini across all of time that I think I love more than any other. It's not the best mini, and it's not even one they sell anymore.

It's the humble Genestealer:

Everything about that miniature captures the young mind, spinning off an endless amount of stories and scenarios. Even when all the other Tyranid units with silly names (Hunter-Slayer, Screamer Killer, Squigs (yes, they were 'Nids once upon a time)) mostly went away, we kept "Genestealer". It's very silly, but just look at the old mini. So much potential in there.

And special mention to the Scorpion, because that is just such an amazing looking vehicle.

My absolute, irrational favorite 40k model is one of the old Realm of Chaos champions. 021911.

I'm just a huge fan of the old organic CSM armor style.

Yeah :''( I hope GW does give us some of them eventually, but for now it's not too bad I guess

Aha I actually made a AoS thread similar to this one with my fav AoS/WHFB models in it and asking what other people's favs are too.

Nice! I'm personally not a huge fan of the older models, but maybe because I'm still kinda new to the hobby and didn't grow up with them.
I still see the appeal though! They're endearing and I assume nostalgic to you ♥

My favorites are tied among the Bloodthirster of Insensate Rage, the Venomcrawler, and the Maulerfiend. The first just looks glorious and radiates single-minded power; no fancy ranged weapons here, just one big axe. The arachnid horror of the Venomcrawler I think really sums up what Chaos is capable of while the Maulerfiend looks like, as put in the TS codex, some prehistoric apex predator, but bound in hellforged technology.

Berzerkers need new models as their current ones are beyond out of the date. Also, regular possessed need a new kit as the current ones look goofy, not scary.

Let's keep it simple, and go with a pair of Commissars - one that is still in production, and one that isn't.

For the one that is, I think this Commissar with Power Fist is spot on:
Spoiler:

The other - and apologies for the paint job - would be the Commissar with Bolt Pistol:
Spoiler:

They both speak to the core of the role, but in different ways - the first in motivating the men he serves with to advance, the second in executing those who flee...

I really like that 2nd one but both are prettyyyy good, I don't think I ever would, but IF I ever did guard as an army, would just have heaps of guardsmen and a bunch of these different commissars

I feel like I can't appreciate those old models as I was never into warhammer (or I was too young then) back then.

That's the thing.

Outside of deep nostalgia, the cold hard truths is that all these old sculpts are really unrefined and vastly inferior to anything that's made today.

Now, of course, some newer models may just be "dumb" or "ugly", but they're all examples of infinitely better craftsmanship, as the expectations have risen a lot in the last decades.

For example, the maskless farseer has such a terrible head shape, and the other one looks like it's got weaponized tit armor and hotdog fingers.
At least, it's got an acceptable pose, whereas the other is just ... wtf why would you do that. Fairly sure she's trying to look us in the eye and say, watch as I kill this pidgeon without looking. witness my powaaaa. It's because of my huge gigantic forehead. all power to meee

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I think my favorite has to be the Eldar Vampire Hunter. Other that I really love all my FW Eldar.

You... you do know what a trainee sculpt is, right? As both of those are them. Trainee sculpts are done to see if a sculptor can match the company's style and are never intended to go into production.

You mean that by default and on average, those people are terrible sculptors?

Because to be honest, most of the "vintage sculpts" are similar in terms of ... "quality".

Educate yourself before you make yourself look even more foolish. Because when you find out who sculpted them as a trainee you'll have to eat some crow.

Oh, please tell me it was Diaz.

Regardless, I think it's fair to say that those sculpts - far from being terrible - are pretty good for being representative of their time, and the tools and technology available.

Correct. They are trainee sculpts by Juan Diaz. Juan Diaz, such a terrible sculptor that should never be let near a pack of green stuff. Amirite?

Here's those same sculpts unpainted. The paint job does them no favours as that face is actually pretty damned good.

Speaking of the Master, my tied two favorites are both his works.

Spoiler:

I had more time, I'd start a BT army just for him.

And the old daemonettes, ah, the old dameonettes...

The various Empire heroes, especially the generals, were also gorgeous and would make great PC minis for a RPG. I hate myself not to buy them when it was possible...

What I'd like is simply a new Imperial Guard infantry box, but in the old boxes way with torsos, legs, arms and head separated. With as many options as the cool ork boyz box.

Heck, just because you love the model doesn't mean you even have to field it! I've never played Fantasy/AoS at all ever, but I've got a few models I wanted to get just for the joy of painting them.
Lady Olynder or Brokk Grungsson, for example. I'm sure I'll eventually cave and get the new Eltharion, too.

Some most excellent models in recent years and not sure which one to pick above all others...

The Chaos Sorceror in Terminator armour. Not only does he look like the ultimate baddass but the kit is fantastic value and a modeller's dream. Quite frankly, it puts the rest of GW's range of models to shame.

A few runners up. The whole Harlequin range, which is something because I dismissed them at first but they grew on me. Absolutely love the AT Porphyrion and really want to get another box but the rules don't support it. The new Keeper of Secrets is friggin amazing and feeling down that there isn't another, smaller model in the Slannesh range that captures it's majestic look. Shout out to Jain Zar for being a great centerpiece model for smaller Craftworld armies...

This list will drag on so I'll leave it there!

Cerastus Knights. I wasn't really sold on the concept of Knights initially, and the squat T-Rex-arms proportions on the Questoris chassis didn't help, but the Cerastus chassis is fantastically vicious-looking.

Runner-ups are pretty much any jetbike, Contemptor Dreadnaughts, and the entire 30k Mechanicum range.

Spoiler:

My favorite 40k model is the Primaris Reiver. The spoiler is a picture of the 23 I have in my collection. I like Reivers because they encapsulate 40k in a single model. Basically endearingly awesome stupid. They are awesome with their power armor and 1990 Image comics tactical pouches with crazy powerful weapons. Yet they have a spooky skull mask capable of frightening daemons back into the warp. It's that way over-the-top, don't think about it too much action movie logic.

See for me, my favourite 40k model (certainly as a concept) is Terminators. Which might be why I have converted up 30 of the buggers for my DG army. Just like what you said WRT Reivers, they encapsulate 40k for me, a relentless bulwark of armour striding across the battlefield. Something about them just screams "Warhammer 40k", even moreso that power armour does for me.
I am strangely drawn to them, probably due to the fact it was one of the first blisters I laid my eyes on when going into a GW for the first time. 12yo Grimtuff spots a "Chaos Space Marine Terminator with Heavy Flamer" and something in that word salad spoke to him. Not in the 40k contexts, but I knew what a Terminator was, I knew what a Space Marine was, I knew what flamethrowers were. Put them all together and it looks cool in your head.

I went with the 40k starter paint set in the end, but I still got my Terminator. Got the metal Termi sergeant mini instead to go with the rest of my loyalists.
