And here we go! Had 6 or 7 successful print runs in a row this weekend, seems the real trick was to drop lift speed to 35mm/s from the default 100. Exposure currently at 2.3s .

Man o' War files from 3DPrintingBitz on Etsy and better masts from barnebiss2 on thingi.

Any tips for resin warping? Those masts are going full banana on me.

Did some monsters for Man o' War today. Real abominiable files made by someone with about as much acumen as me, just Thingiverse sculpts thrown together with loads of gaps etc. Fixed them up best I could in 3D Builder. Getting some afwul base curling during curing tho

Also Vae Victis cauldron for an Ogor Slaughtermaster conversion.

Funny thing, both people in the room agreed that the resin is waaay less smelly than last time. Same bottle. So either we both have rona or I got an insanely fresh bottle that needed a few weeks to settle down.

Behold! "My" first models. I found the water tile used for the monsters above and spliced some other creatures on them for new Man o War units. Original sculpts by Mia Kay.

Nice! Glad to see you're rocking and rolling now. This stuff is fun once you get going - it's that initial first few steps that suck.

BTW, where did you get that castle from? It doesn't look like a resin print and reminds me of some artwork I did back in my college days.

It never ends well

Supposedly it's Dragonstone castle from GOT. I think I got it off Myminifactory for free. It's an FDM print.

So, first liter of resin is spent and here's all the successful prints I got, barring I think 2 infantry I gave away to a friend. While it's a good amount for the 46€ it cost me, even accounting for the failed models, the losses of material to supports, cleaning and evaporation are clearly horrendous, must be over 50%.

those lines are print lines, just like a mold would have mold lines; you can sand them away with appropriate jewelry files.

That looks like a pretty good haul. I am also thinking I'm losing a lot to supports, although I've tuned it down a bit compared to my first trials.

I know what you mean about support waste. I started collecting a lot of them and turning it into industrial waste for Necromunda terrain though

First painted prints! Now I can finally play a GW game from 1993 for the first time ever as soon as this whole lockdown business blows over, ha ha ha sob

Those are painting up very nicely indeed!

I suppose the flip side to the material waste is that when you buy a bottle of resin; it exists in potentia as just about anything. You never end up with a pile of stuff accumulated for an army you never build, bits and piece lying around, etcetc. Money invested in spare bottles of resin is effectively money invested in anything you can print whenever you want it.

If only there was a type of reusable resin you could melt down! You'd just grab all the supports and feed them back in as fresh material!

And done!

Moving right on to the loathsome ratmen, playing horde even on the high seas (this is actually less points than the dwarfs)

They are so cute though really nice work on the dwarf colour scheme.

Something a bit different tonight, making* resin printable Skaven banners, and later hopefully sails, to avoid mucking about with paper sails like it's 1993.

*sculpting would be a bit too strong a word for my blind bumbling around in Blender and 3D Builder

Amazing. How did you get the ripple effect, or is that a standard effect from some software?

It's fairly easy to do in Blender, it has a thing where you can drag one vertex around and it pulls its neighbors along based on proximity, like a smudge tool. So I just smudged a flat plane left and right a bit.

Continuing to put sails on Nathan J Hunt's Man o War reculpts. Much harder to get a good curve on these than the banners.
