The real irony is that I, a shameless and unreasonable Paul Anderson hater, must now pay to watch his movie a few billion times in order to defend his artistic vision.
His stupid... stupid artistic vision.
But seriously, I hope it inspires him to make a biopic about the Dalai Llama next.

What did poor Dalai Lama do to you to wish him this fate?
Anyway, just another movie from polite-mouthed Uwe Boll that paid a bunch for a license only to take it to a Fun Cellar of uncle Touchy...

Personally if i were a movie maker, i'd take having a film of mine banned by the chinese government as a badge of honor.

I could get behind that, if the reason for the ban weren't so dumb as a bad pun XD

Overread wrote:Reminds me of how there is the whole "skeletons aren't allowed in Chinese games" thing with games getting released in China. When in reality there is no legal or moral barrier, but the approval board has used it as a reason before and the approvals are so fickle that many companies bow to even the suggestion of a possible problem just to get in.
Basically China is a huge and grumpy golden goose. If you breach the market you can make an absolute fortune compared to just western markets alone. However its grumpy and just as likely to just throw up a wall and say no over the most tiny of things just as an excuse.
The government is also very keen to promote their own and not allow the west in too much, so you can bet sometimes they just want an excuse not to release something.
Heck they banned Whinny the Pooh over a few internet memes.
The CCP is notoriously overly sensitive on anything that might challenge the idea of China as a mighty and all powerful nation, including anything that might be somewhat tied to poking fun at its leaders. I mean the movie Pixels originally had a shot where the the aliens shot the Great Wall of China, making a hole, but they realized that might be offensive in implying China would be affected like the rest of the world so they had the aliens shoot the Leaning Tower of Piza instead. It's pretty dumb seeing companies stumble over each other trying to get that sweet sweet Chinese moolah and bending over and let China take them from behind when half the time they fail at breaking into the market. I know corporations are amoral at best, but damn, I guess there's no dignity when it comes to the idea of making mad cash with a dictatorship. You'd hope that would be the case but Hollywood and most mainstream filmmakers have sold out to China a looooong time ago.

Finally saw this! Man, not being available in China really hinders the piracy. Anyways... It was ok. I still don’t think the our world stuff was at all necessary. A big chunk of the film is watching the military people bumbling around and getting picked off, and course guns, even 50 cals do nothing to the monsters. Monster effects were pretty cool, and the weapons from the games were nice. They leave it quite open for a sequel, but I doubt it gets one due to the China fiasco.
