It's come up in here a number of times recently, but Dakka's moderation has always been very light-handed for the most part - for better or worse!
The best thing you can do is hit the triangle and make a detailed note about the issue. A mod will always check it, so you know someone will be manually looking at your alert.
For some issues, they've been around as long as many of us have - complaining about not getting releases for one's preferred faction is definitely one of these! However, if anyone is doing this excessively it can become rule breaking (namely, staying on topic) and hitting the alert is the best way to get that noticed and hopefully dealt with.
If there's a particular poster rubbing you the wrong way you can also put them on ignore, which can be really helpful in some situations.
BrianDavion, you mentioned it's settled down now but if you could do the above regarding alerts next time it becomes a big issue again this would really help us out.

Unlike years ago, I feel like when someone explicitly states that they are not looking for mathematical perfection but to make a unit/composition work, people will help with that.
But I agree, a narrative/crusade forum would be nice. Apparently many people are playing crusade, but there is so little info on it out there.
IMO the biggest issue right now, especially related to space marines is that a few specific posters are refusing to back down from any argument no matter what and keep riling up other people, while also posting at an extremely high frequency. The ignore function isn't enough if you have pages of people responding to the same person who responds to *everything*.
And yes, I know, pot and kettle, but I am trying to improve. I could probably derail threads at will by baiting certain people there with the correct trigger words. Basically any thread that dares to mention eradicators turns into a twenty page gak-show.

The problem with that is it's often not true, regardless of what the OP might intend. It's probably about 50/50 whether a thread will actually follow the original topic at all in most cases and often that's because there are more interesting things to discuss that are at least tangentially related to the original topic. In the case of a thread saying "I think this new Space Wolves unit is really cool" for example, I'm not sure it really is off-topic to discuss whether another SM release is what the game needs. It's not 100% on-topic, but if you restrict things like that you just get a bunch of dry, banal agreements or disagreements rather than a discussion. I think it's a fine line with varying degrees of acceptability but I don't think it's really possible for a topic creator to give an exhaustive list of things that are on or off topic and I'm not sure that's helpful anyway.
How about a hard cap on postings per day/hour for affected subfora? That way people cannot just bog down threads as they please and have to be economic with their contributions.
Can someone explain to me how a toxic thread that turned into nothing but "mahrine bashing," ganging up on defenders and harassment towards some users not only got locked but had a Mod recommend the toxic members start a new version of it.
Then, a new version of it got locked after page after page after page of circular argumentation with no regard for what people were writing about... Full of personal attacks and caveat based gotcha style circular argumentation. No one is interested in discourse just attempting to making peoe with different opinions lookkke fools.
Well, how is it that the toxic thread gets recommended to be re-opened. Then another toxic thread gets started along the sMd lines where people are ganged up on and bashed for having alternative views... After this one gets locked when someof the toxic people themselves get annoyed that there prey isnt silenced or displaced. But after this is accepted a perfectly positive non-antagoinzed thread with people sharing opinions and not attacking each other ID the thread that gets locked right away? And it just happens to have a poll that shows the the majority of the community didn't agree with the loudest and most antagonistic people from the previous thread... What is going on here?
I start a poll to actually see what the community opinion on it this topic is. All but one post is on topic, polite, and people are politely declaring their about their opinion on the topic. The poll is going well (not reflecting the toxic community members opinion I might add). Finally, a thread about this topic, with no argumentation, people sharing there thoughts, and a poll demonstrating an accurate representation about what the community actually thinks. People were disagreeing with out attacking each other. People were writing their own justifications ! .. How is it that this is the thread gets locked faster then any of the other ones. How is it that the only clean and none hostile thread I have seen on the general 40k chat in forever is the one that gets locked !
In all seriousness... some community members very much seem more concerned with attacking people then actually discussing anything... god forbid you say anything positive at all about SMs.The is a general attitude here that feels like space marine bashing and bashing people who don't join in on the bashing is acceptable. The second people start talking positively about SMs in any way that is the end of it.
I don't know what the mod who locked this thread was thinking but it really outwardly looks like the thread got locked because of how many "YES" 's were voted on... and I am sure that's not the impression they wanted to give... but it is strange that such a non-confrontational thread was locked like that when multiple repeat threads focused on bashing SMs and those who support SMs have persisted for weeks now.... I am sure the mods do not want to come off as biased... but this example really outwardly looks that way... I really hope the toxic culture that this thread is trying to point out isn't persisting from the top.
I don't want to believe that but how is it possible that some of the members on this forum get away constant barrages on peoples character, integrity, and persistent misrepresentation of comments/discourse. Its really too bad that this poll didn't continue, it was really showing that the handful of loud people were in the minority in terms of community opinion... I hope the mods let that really sink in because its those people that are silencing so many others here and it should be striking that their opinion might be the most prevalently posted but those same opinions wernt reflected in the poll,,, why do you think that is... People are bullied here,,, it is weird that the mods don't seem to be catching on to the fact that this is happening.
Anyways, I am really disappointed by this. I am really tired of feeling attacked and I am really tired of being misrepresented by others who don't bother to even read my posts/arguments/statements all the way through. I admit that I have trouble backing down to bullies and I have trouble backing down when people are attacking me... Most people just shut up and stop posting here... but I guarantee I am not the only person who feels this way and I guarantee your community is being bullied into silence... the results of the poll I took should speak for itself. There is clearly a more diverse set of opinions then the loudest minority on this forum would make it look like.

The polls and poll thread was not antagonistic at all, for once,,, its weird how fast it got shut down. I think discouraging non-toxic threads/polls where users arn't immediately getting attacked for their opinions is not the way to discourage the bullying happening here. And don't try and say it's us antagonizing, that we are 'asking for it' or that we are starting it. Blaming the victums of the bullying for "posting hot topics" or "knowingly disagreed with topics" is not a valid way to address bullying. Do you really want the bullies on this site dictating what people can or can not express? Telling people to just not post things they get upset about is ridiculous. ... I would Get bullied on, harassed or ridiculed even when I agreed with some individuals. Hell, they would disagree with me out of principal sometimes when I was agreeing with what they said!... You can't say that the mods are just not seeing this kind of stuff happen can you?
Honestly, locking this non-antagonistic thread/poll really sends a strange message on where priorities in this forum are lying...

As an aside, as "infinite" rolls is actually impossible even if the FAQ "allows" it, then it will always be a non-zero chance to pass them all. Eventually the two players will die. If they pass the game on to their decendents, they too will eventually die. And, at the end of it all, the universe will experience heat death and it, too, will die. In the instance of "infinite" hits, we're talking more of functional infinity, rather than literal.
RAW you can't pass the game onto descendants, permissive ruleset. Unless we get an FAQ from GW.

Sure, there are also some people attacking you personally which is not OK at all, but maybe you should just try putting those people on ignore instead of derailing your own threads by answering to them.

It only sends a 'strange message' if you willfully misinterpret the reason for locking it that was provided in the thread. Which, honestly, seems to be at the core of a lot of your issues in your time on these forums.
The thread wasn't locked because the responses so far were positive. It was locked because it was duplicating a thread that had just been locked, and was unlikely to cover any new ground as a result. This is not some insidious conspiracy to promote negativity.

If ONE POST equals somebody allegedly harassing you and bullying you to the point where you need to get the mods involved... Then we have all been harassed and bullied. Its not.. If you feel you are really being harassed and bullied by someone in an online space then blocking/ignoring + reporting them is the logical step..
Like if you really were feeling harassed what would a normal person do ? Report and ignore.. and let the mods sort it out. Because that's how the system works. But what did you do? You contact me on PM for some reason to keep talking to me despite accusing me of harassment+ bullying moments earlier and decrying how you will try to get me banned ....

Telling everyone the solution to people on dakka attacking them, talking gak about them and antagonizing them is to ignore them isn't going to change the fact that it is happening to people here, and clearly, i might be the one who is vocal and upset about it but i am not the only one feeling this. Other people started this thread not me.
Why are you even victim blaming right now ? your telling me to ignore people, why are you even interacting with me ? what are you getting out of this ? Is it making you feel good to try and belittle me or prove me wrong even at this ?

Like you keep saying "contantly" I literary wrote ONE post on your thread and promptly explained why I made the post, took your comment to heart and immediatly went back on topic. On topic.. and yet you went off on soem tangents about harrasment.. Seems you have an idea its some sort of grand conspiracy and a personal attack against you dude..I have nothing to do with other people and dont care im talking about my interaction with you which spanned two posts..after which you started some sort of weird feud on PM saying how you will continue to report any harassing or off-topic posts I make (which by your definition is every post it seems)... As an aside, as "infinite" rolls is actually impossible even if the FAQ "allows" it, then it will always be a non-zero chance to pass them all. Eventually the two players will die. If they pass the game on to their decendents, they too will eventually die. And, at the end of it all, the universe will experience heat death and it, too, will die. In the instance of "infinite" hits, we're talking more of functional infinity, rather than literal.
RAW you can't pass the game onto descendants, permissive ruleset. Unless we get an FAQ from GW.

I have more and more people on my ignore list and thank you, this is good advice. What upset me in particular about that thread in question is that people were insulting me, off topic, and in a thread that I hadn't been participating in for almost 3 pages and half a day later. My only post in that particular thread was non confrontational and from many pages before... there is only so much you can ignore. And I do have a habit of confronting people and asking them to stop when it is becoming obviously egregious ...
Despite my own experiences, it is very clear that some people on these forums are particularly antagonistic and aggressive towards people who decent from certain opinions... The OP is right and what it boils down to, is that I also feel like this is happening, though i do admit I react stronger then most to bullying being directed towards me and that tends to get me into more trouble / causes those looking for a reaction to target me even more... its something i will work on.
the YMDC forum is great, and I have had some great discourse, conversation, and discussion there... but the general topics forum is very silenced and definitely dominated by certain people with very strong opinions... though i do not believe that most people in the community share those opinions (based on the short time my poll was up at least). It is weird that the bullying that is causing this silence is largely ignored by mods. I really would like to seem ore action. The brief existence of the poll I put up where people wern't attacking each other and describing their opinions on the poll felt really good, lots of different approaches (some I agreed with and so I did not). I hope to participate in and see more threads approached in that way in the future. ... anyways, I have said what i have to say.

Well when you try to show yourself out to be a victim of harassment..
I take issue with a double standards and thinking its ok to contact someone on PM to tell them how they are bad for community and how you will keep reporting their posts. But also they are the ones harassing you, yet you're the one that keeps sending them messages..
Its a real shame that's all you got from this whole thread though.

Sure the poll was a very similar topic, I agree, but it was also a pure attempt to get anonymous community feedback on the topic (and the poll had a lot of participation, also, I think the data collected was very interesting and the conversation in the thread was 100% more civil then the previous one, very positive in my opinion).
Other then that... I havn't actually made any rehashed topics of closed threads ... ? have I ?
