It's not 1:1, no, but it's pretty close.

The existing GK kits make 6 units plus characters. Assuming a new primaris line would similarly consist of about 6 units, that'd be six new kits, unless they found a way to make only two GK primaris kits that could still be built into 6 different units plus characters, which is again something that they've never done before.

I'd be totally fine if all they did for GK was a character resculpt, an add-on frame for the Dreadknight, and an upgrade sprue for Intercessors. (5 helmets, 5 sets of shoulder pads, some random bits, and some weapons would go a LONG way).

When they did SM they didn't do 1:1 replacement off the bat (the Rhino equivalent didn't show up until Codex 2, and the bikes/melee units had to wait until 9e) and they deleted loads of options rather than make different kits for (for instance) all the different Tactical loadouts. I'd expect if they did Primaris-ize the GK we'd get just a Strike-equivalent and Terminator-equivalent box, and whatever the Primaris versions of Paladins/Purifiers/Interceptors/Purgators are would wait until 10e on the justification that we've still got the old-marine kits to plug the list.

The problem is that the way the arms in the kit are done if you wanted to do different weapons you'd have to do entirely different arms. It'd be a really big upgrade sprue.

The GK side will be primaris with an upgrade sprue with GK-style heads, and maybe a single psi-cannon arm, or possibly dual psi-cannons if they do aggressors. Increase cost of kit by 50%.

Any GK vehicles will be primaris vehicles with an add-on sprue for GK style iconography and *maybe* one psi-weapon, again with a 50% increase in price.

What I'm hoping for is a proper reintegration into a larger Ordo Malleus faction with an accompanying codex and models, Inquisitors and retinues included. Grey Knights don't need primaris, but they could use a scale update imo.

But how would that help to fix GK? If the working new parts were all new non GK units. It would feel like what BA had in 8th, where a BA army consisted of 15 scouts, 2 characters and a castellan with ton of IG dudes. It was a BA army in name only.

Ideally that wouldn't be the case. If GK get a scale update, they'd get new rules as well.

Realistically you'd only NEED two kits to primarify GK.

-Primaris PA Grey Knights
-Primaris Terminator Grey Knights (or gravy armor, whatever, the GK termies look similarly enough to gravis that you could probably merge the aesthetics easily)

make them super packed to the gills kits with tons of options and customization such that you just buy kit after kit after kit after kit of the same box to build your GK army, and it'd be like the battle sisters kit, people would buy tons of them and even the small player pool of GK would be worth.

Then give GKs Redemptor Dreadnoughts, primaris tanks, primaris transports, primaris librarians, primaris chaplains, and release a couple plastic characters out of finecast. Keep the dreadknight around.

Honestly, giving GK the exact same rules with some weapon updates, W2 and A2 goes a long way towards making them extremely good, besides the obvious weakness of being a psyker army in a game with stupid ITC style secondaries to punish "Spam"...whoops we made a bunch of armies who have no choice but to "Spam" because we made 100% of their units fall into one category....

Models
I don't think they'll get Primaris. I think, like Sister's, GK are going to get actual new units unique to them but maybe echoing some of the others out there that already exist.

I am thinking a new vehicle of some kind, possibly a hover one with some sort of anti-invulnerable or psychic and transport mechanism.

There will be at least one new type of character for the elite slot, I am thinking something like a chaplain but more unique/psychic buffing.

Possibly an elite unit in the vain of blade guard.

I am thinking of something like bikes too to rep 'mounted knights' - crusaders?

Rules
I think there will be something like knightly orders or awards, similar to the DG pathogens you can buy.

I think the psychic disciplines will get combined/consolidated.

I think the warp tides will be cut down and simplified. Each company may get access to their own unique tide.

IF GW made one kit of primaris "intercessors" with parts to make GK version of hellblaster weapons, and another version of GK in gravis armour with parts to make apothecaries, banner dudes and heroes, then the only need GW may need to do are any specific GK primaris units they would invent. Maybe melee jump troops for primaris or something, but in general the two gravis/power armour boxs would cover all GK characters and units that don't happen to be a vehicle of some sort.

I think we'll just see a new model for an existing character, a box set, and a combat patrol.

What I'd like to see though, is the return of Ordo Malleus Inquisitors/Inquisitor Lords and their associated units, and after that tanks.

Guardsmen, hear me! Cadia may lie in ruin, but her proud people do not! For each brother and sister who gave their lives to Him as martyrs, we will reap a vengeance fiftyfold! Cadia may be no more, but will never be forgotten; our foes shall tremble in fear at the name, for their doom shall come from the barrels of Cadian guns, fired by Cadian hands! Forward, for vengeance and retribution, in His name and the names of our fallen comrades!

Nice to see folks pulling for Ordo Malleus- I want to see all flavours of Inquisition returned to former glory with Chamber Militant relationships given some sort of rules support.

Having said that, I don't think you'll get Malleus in GK, because we didn't get Xenos in DW and it doesn't look like we're getting Hereticus in SoB.

This means if there's any love coming for the Inquisition, it will be in an Imperial Agents dex. This would be my preferred solution anyway, as it gives them capacity to address Rogue Traders, Assassins, and any other Fringe elements.

On the plus side, this means PA Pariah may continue to be relevant for quite some time, as it replaced the old WD dex.

Grey Knights are a pretty complete range in plastic, so no shocker there...

Although what a kick in the junk it would be for this to be the intro for the new plastic Servitor kit, amirite?

They can't continue to keep GK using firstborn models, at some point they'll have to switch to the current marine model line.

Making the change with the next codex release is good sense, but they'll have to gut the current options to use STC primaris models.

This would also make them look like heroes in 10th when they start to "return" the special models/weapons to the chapter as they expand into custom models for the army down the road.

Exactly this.

Then, Cawl’s heresy will finally be confirmed, the GKs will be sent in to clean house, Cawl and his clone bot restartes will escape into the warp, taking all his grav magic riddikulous hi-tek Nast with him, and humankind will rally once again against an even greater threat, the time from within!!!

This uncertainty is exactly why I did not get GKs when I got back to 40k.

It takes me a long time to paint stuff, last thing I wanted was to get squatted whenever the heck they had the time to obsolete the old minis. And GW loves this since they got a taste of it with WHFB. Long gone the days when you could field minis for decades.

I was particularly salty when I say a play tester sell his chaos dwarves right before they were discontinued from FW, though that might have been coincidence.

Personally, I think they will primarize GK some point. They will slowly replace the old chapter specific units, it’s just that we are not there yet.

I agree with above, the price point and the effort isn't something I can condone if the life span of a mini is a commercial leverage from GW.

That's why as soon as they will retire the old marine from being legit I will be essentially out of the hobby (I still have Knight and a few other armies, but I play mostly SM).

I can't condone a place where abusers and abused are threated the same: it's destined to doom, so there is no reason to participate in it.

My man out here repping conspiracy theories about a wholly fictional universe that exists to sell plastic toys.

I guess it's less depressing than the common ones you hear these days that end with "And then, then my family will have to admit I was RIGHT, and they were WRONG, and my wife will take my back, and my daughter will talk to me again!"

You'll see! You'll all see! when Cawl's heresy is revealed and GW finally decides to do the thing I know they'll do which is come to their SENSES and flush the miniature range they've invested millions of dollars in down the toilet! I know they'll do it because it'll make me happy, a longtime consumer who already owns multiple full-size 2000pt armies - the main demographic that GWs marketing materials exist to please!

You don't have to reveale anything. By imperial law modification and tempering with the gene seed is forbiden, and it is something only the Emperor can lift. And, unless GW rewrites the entire w40k history, the only time GW allowed such a thing was when he gave Corax the okey to rebuild his legion.

Or have primaris marines been secretly daemons this entire time?

People really do not understand how sacred "the lore" is to any fething company on earth, do they.

Here's how it works:

-You own an intellectual property that has Established Lore.

-You have some new thing that you want to sell, but it conflicts with Established Lore.

one HUNDRED PERCENT OF THE TIME, ALL THE TIME, EVERY TIME THIS EVER HAPPENS ALWAYS NEVER NOT THIS, you change the Established Lore to fit with the new thing you want to sell.

Established Lore says eldar have jetbikes and imperium does not, but you want to sell a special jetbike character?

OK, the imperium has ONE JETBIKE.

Established Lore says imperium has one jetbike, precious relic, mystery of technology, last final only....but wait, what if you want space marine players to buy the jetbikes that Forgeworld makes for their alternate only space marine game that's set in the past?

OK, the imperium has SOME JETBIKES. A few. A couple. Only the ones left over from the heresy.

Established Lore says imperium has only jetbikes left over from the heresy, but now your model designer has this idea for the golden banana hat fellows to have jetbikes as their main fast unit!

Ok, FINE, the imperium has LOTS OF JETBIKES, but they ARE special, theyre special jetbikes given to only special boys, like the adeptus janitorius, of which there's only like....six. there are only six, theyre super rare. Everyone might SEEM to be playing them, and 25% of people might SEEM to be playing the super-ultra-mega-rare adeptus janitorius, but we promise, definitely, pinky swear this time, this lore is established as feth, definitely never going to change again, regarding the imeperium, the jetbikes, and the fact that they have or do not have them.

Vigo. Spain.

In the 80's, Hasbro made a movie to kill fething Optimus Prime just because they stopped selling his toy.

I'm really baffled how adult, grow men and women fail to see that the fluff of all this kinds of games is just as kids cartoons. They only exist to sell toys. That doesnt mean that fluff or cartoons can't be better or worse but at the end, they'll always have a clear objetive.

The fluff changes because the product they are selling has changed. As simple as that. Don't expect background coherency when the only reason it was made that way, was because they tried to sell X stuff.
