I'm not having kids so I'm not sure what will happen. As with my guns, cars, tools, watches, etc, I just hope my wife doesn't sell them for what I told her I paid for them...

I recently was given a crack at some old figures from a former diorama painter who passed. So much reference material!

I expect mine will get sold on and will be someone's "I found X at a estate sale for only Y! I am so lucky!" That is the best case scenario. Worst case is the dump.....

Funny. Yeah, no doubt.

My fear too… likely to become reality, but maybe a few years between then and now to sort another landing, if I am fortunate.

As for kits, my stuff is all in shipping boxes on the other side of Europe but for some deffkoptas and mansions of madness still in box, here. Iirc, I have some sisters stuff, a box that is the double garden of morr kit called sigmarite mausoleum, a Mantic terrain box, and… more.

A few years back when I was amassing a collection of Space Fleet models I got several from an estate sale auction. It was a bit chilling.

My hobby is in the converting and the kitbashing, not painting or gaming. I tend to work on one or more projects simultaneously while inspired, then put them away (often half finished) as soon as the inspiration wanes and the hobby ADD wants me to work on something else. I also have a lot of finished minis that I will never paint or use, so I have been selling or giving them away slowly over the last handful of years.

When I die, I expect my son and his cousins to pick out what they want to keep for the games we play(ed) and then for the rest to go to one of my gaming friends.

Bah, you just need to be ambitious. This is 25% of my 40K collection. All the rest is painted:

Is it better or worse that the cupboard is 2 boxes deep as well? (I never said I didn’t have a problem…)

This is something for another thread I think but I have recently given some thought to what happens to your collection after you die There must be a fair few hobbyists from the 80s/90s who have subsequently passed on and what of their collections? Gone in the bin, sold, retained as family heirlooms?

At the local games club a few years ago, a regular brought in the collection of a bloke who'd passed away. IIRC he'd made the purchase that very morning. (He had a regular eBay trade in GW stuff, so was used to acquiring stock.)

He sorted through it at the club for most of the day--it took up half the tables--and sold a fair bit of it then and there to the other attendees.

The phrase 'vultures gathered around a carcass' sprang to mind.

Spoiler:
(I got some Gaunt's Ghosts.)

What are those Renegade boxes? I don't think I've ever seen those, I suppose I must have missed that release (I had been out of the hobby for several years and I remember the other Renegade box that you have below those two was the first box I bought when I returned).

Blackie wrote:Are those empty boxes of already finished models? Or is it just a good old pile of shame?

Yes these boxes are all full! Theres a few behind them also. I did go through a period of ditching the boxes but I eventually realised that whenever I'm not building the models then the boxes they arrive in are actually a pretty good way of storing them.

Yeah, they brought out the renegade set in two separate releases a year or so apart from memory. The only difference (apart from the box art) was that they updated the included terrain to the newer stuff. My FLGS was running a buy one get on at 50% off deal when it came out the second time, so it was a (relatively) good buy.
