So to what i still use it: build army lists' check own army rules.

Obviously useless is just stupid hyperbole. Less useful sure for eventually sure. Useless? No.

Hell atm there's only 1 codex locked. So unless you are playing tyranid vs tyrania only it doesn't even matter on every game yet or even majority...

yes, fair enough, but they are set in motion down this path, where one of the most useful features in the app is now going to slowly become less and less useful as time goes on and more an more of the basic content is getting paywalled, its a bit of a hard sell.

currently, the nid stuff is locked down tighter than anything in 9th was. thats a step in the absolutely wrong direction. I'm not exactly setting the bar high here, im literally asking to see the datasheets to an equivilent level of detail as i could in 9th without a codex. but apprantley, thats too much for them all of a sudden?

its stupid. it literally drives people towards stuff like BS and Wahapedia.

the ability to see a units basic profile, build options etc - even without all the special rules, is a useful sales tool, a point GW seem to have missed

For having been in the game for as long as they have, GW is surprisingly short-sighted.

Locking the app behind Warhammer+ is also a greedy decision that's most likely going to come back and bite them in the ass.
Most people couldn't care less about Warhammer+.
Most people would begrudgingly accept to pay say, the equivalent of €2 / month to simply use the app. Way less people are willing to pay €6+/month for the app and Warhammer+ (which they don't care about).

So most people are just gonna go back to "other sources" as they always have.

Personally I like the app (despite it's flaws), but I'm sure as hell not willing to pay as much monthly for it as I do for my Netflix subscription...

I feel like they are trying to make Warhammer+ worth more to the consumer, but not cost anything anywhere else.
So as the edition goes on the app gets less valuable.
And really the only reason I even have a yearly sub is the mini, which isn’t really worth on its own.
The Stuff to watch you would need to be fully into games workshop hobby to not already have alternatives.

I have been more engaged and way more likely to spend if I know what I am getting ahead of time.
And one of my codex’s is coming soon, so bleh.

Its completely stupid that they lock stuff behind a paper purchase AND force us to pay for W+.

The difference is most people sign up for Prime because it has content they want to watch. The free delivery is just a handy little extra. Given the lack of material and slow updates on WH+, GW seems to be hoping the app will actually be a big draw to encourage people to sign up.

^^^^ this, its used to be a signup for delivery, then an extra for the media stuff which couldn't be had without the delivery

apparently way too many only wanted delivery so the charge for media had to be too high, so they levelled it down

I have it for delivery, and haven't watched the media still in about 18 months, there isn't anything on there I care about

I do like free delivery though

Yeah, back in the day I subbed to Prime for the free 2 day delivery, before the streaming content platform side of things even existed. They added the streaming content later to sweeten the pot, and I'm still subscribed all these years later even though I only place amazon orders a handful of times per year, in part because all the other perks that come with it make it appealing - but the reality is that I haven't actually streamed any free content from prime in 6+ years now (I've streamed a few things that I had to pay for separately more recently than that) and most of the value I get from Prime is from not paying for shipping.

It's more surprising to me that people thought that GW somehow would give you free access to army lists/builders. This is GAMES WORKSHOP. They've been fleecing people like this for decades. Why are you still expecting anything else from them?

issue I've seen is that the odd thing I've thought about watching is always yet another extra charge, and I just cannot be bothered

heck the only stuff I've watched from them recently I've done so as I get paid by them a tenner a time to watch stuff and submit a detailed review, and since I can do it over my lunch hour while eating why not?

That and they pretty much told you how this was going to work way back during the ramp up to 10e.
You knew that once the Codexes started rolling out that the free index stuff would be removed.
But, as is typical of consumers, the only word that registered was "FREE".....

mmm thats not entirely true CCS. I had the hope that it would mirror AoS so when it was finally confirmed that it wasn't going to it was just a disappointment.
also sometimes the way that GW words things it's not always the clearest.
i had to reread the article on the APP update to make sure it was working as intended and not some sort of bug.

9th edition and AOS at least gave you the basic datasheet. It's only the army-specific stuff that's locked. But this is EVERYTHING locked.

All I'm seeing is the Tyranid dataslates (the new ones from the new codex) being locked down, which makes sense as technically it hasn't been released yet. If they are still locked by the weekend though...

They've been very clear you need the codex to unlock them

You DIDN'T simply read what they wrote. You read it and added your own assumptions.

No, the way they worded it was very shady corporate doublespeak, as they usually do, where they strongly imply something but give themselves plausible deniability when they inevitably go back on it.

It's the way they always write. Just enough to make almost everyone think it's one way based on the wording, but give themselves an out to say "Well, we didn't REALLY say that" when they decide to feth people over.

You know, I was going to make the usual pirate joke but frankly 10th's rules are so dismal I'm not sure it would even be worth the bother of pirating them.

Regardless, it's hilarious to me that people actually thought GW wouldn't start shaking them down for coins the moment codices came out.

It was never that simple; these days there are a lot of steps between 'totally free' and 'totally paywalled' and people understandably weren't sure on which of those steps the situation would fall.

You should be happy it is not 65$.

Why would somebody still buy the cards if the have to buy a codex, if i have the codex i dont need the cards and i dont need the app.

GW writes many things, which end up to being changed, false or no longer true later one. Use X rules to play your marines. People flock to buy scouts, scout speeders, RAS etc. Uupps we decided to remove those units from the marine rules. Or a friend of my bought 3 boxes of guarians and and extra box of wardens just to have the proper size units for the army. Now the size is illegal, he can't have 6 wardens or 10 guardians. And lets better not go in to the many times GW promised to fix stuff, but the fixes didn't fix a thing. In order to read what GW writes, one has to use the new speak filter from the 1950s.
Freedom of choice, is monopose "what is in the box". Fix is "wait for 2 years, maybe we will do something this or next edition" etc.

They released an expension for WFB, made promises to deliver new stuff, only to all of the sudden from month to month, destroy the game and release something that a lot of people didn't want.

I’ve downloaded the indexes and have no plans to buy codexes for my lesser used armies. Those rules will do just fine, if the rules change, no big deal.

Then dont buy new models because they are codex only.

Also limits where he can play tyrannofex, death'eaper and couple other units
