Don’t have nids, and most of my “minor” armies are knights, death guard, daemons, guard. Don’t really need to buy for them, even if new units coming out. Just not worth the investment for the few times I actually play them.

GW would be guaranteed to get $360-540 out of me over the next 36 months or so until 11e drops as a subscriber. They are unlikely to convince me to buy the ~7-11 codexes they would need to sell me over that same time period to get that much money out of me for rules otherwise. In actuality, they would need to sell me quite a few more codexes than that to offset the publishing and logistics costs associated with producing those books as a physical product and reach profit parity with a digital subscription model.
With the recent trend of them more or less invalidating the contents of a codex with day 0 balance updates, I'm basically wholly unwilling to ever buy another codex from GW ever again. I'm not interested in spending that much for something that is to be considered disposable.
Wtf. For that price you can all the codexes you need, except the codex is with you all your life and can be sold in eBay later on. I hope GW never listens to you, no pun intended.
Im not a fan of codex being so expensive now, but the price you suggesting is waaaaay too high. Do you live in Zürich, Switzerland?

the cost per month needs to be closer to £5, in effect get the cost per month to the point you just don't waste time with it you just get it
needs to work as an "app" or as a website on a pc/mac/linux browser, store lists, have the ability to export and print and likely a lot of people would just use it
fixed price, gives the app usability, then each army is a similar price one time purchase to unlock (or just include them, its a loss leader to sell plastic)

3€, all Indizes/ Codizes included, better functionality, ability to swap lists with opponent easily, full translation, legends included, continued support in the next edition.
That would get me to pay for the app, even if I only get 6 games/ year.

look at mobile "apps", before the iPhone there were many trying, and failing, to charge a tenner or more a time for some seriously rubbish games.
along came Apple and pushed the cost per "thing" below the price of a coffee, they made a fortune from it through volume

Are you kidding me? Do the math buddy, $360-540 over the course of 3 years, or you can spend over $1300 to buy every codex and codex supplement that currently exists (a number which will only increase as they add more factions, etc.), plus another ~$750 or so for the GT MIssion Packs, Crusade Books, Narrative Supplements, etc.
$10-15/month is the right price point for what you're getting.

I have done the math.
And it says using Whahapedia is way cheaper....
As is picking up the Codexes/accessory books i actually want in physical form for (essentially) free using my Amazon reward pts.
I've spent very little $ on Codexes throughout 9e & expect that trend to continue.

If Wahapedia was up to date, sure.
Not everyone has reward points to spend though, thats an unrealistic expectation to set.

If I don't like the rules I will no longer buy a codex book. Which I just realised explains why over the summer I played probably 4 games of AoS for each game of w40k. If I played SoG or a new good LL book came out I would buy it in a heartbeat.
I won store credit and an army box of infinity and I bought lore books with it over W40k GK or LL. I can imagine that if a person is having fun with the army they have, paying to play it can be acceptable. It is less fun when it is the opposit. And to make it more wierd I have more money now, working a bouncer and trainer, then I ever had.

I mean, I personally refuse to buy any more codexes. Waste of trees. If there was a digital option that would be update with faq/errata, etc. I would be amenable.
Glad to hear waha is still being developed, I was concerned they were abandoning the project with 10th edition, was trying to ID a new free resource.

It will be. According to them they're updating it right now with SM & Tyranids. with more to follow. I'm willing to wait vs spending/wasting $.

Opportunity cost says they aren't free, not unless those points couldn't be used for anything else. Automatically Appended Next Post:
This is of minimal value as GW continues to strip down the fluff and art sections to the absolute minimum and make codices little more than a rulebook that is out of date within weeks of release. Having piles of physical books cluttering up my house is a disadvantage, not a reason to buy them. Automatically Appended Next Post:
Yep. And here ended the GW experiment. For $0 per month I can get all of the rules in a better format, all the legends rules (in the unlikely event that it ever matters), and the ability to look things up from any platform instead of having to get out my phone every time I have a question. Or I can pay to get the same content in a worse format with no ability to use it on my PC, and get the "bonus" of a terribly designed list building tool that is less convenient to use than a .txt document. GW had a chance to do something with the new edition but they've hopelessly fumbled it once again.

I'm with PaintingOwl on the above, personally.
I've been trying to move my 9th ed books, most people aren't interested in paying more thanthe cost of shipping for them, basically.

That only matters in a philosophical debate.

Not really. If you have $40 (or the equivalent amount of points on Amazon) spending it on Codecs means you can't spend it on models, or paints, or videogames, or anything else.
