Very sad news. It's slightly scary to think how much influence he indirectly had on my life. Without warhammer and its ilk I wouldn't know most of my friends, I wouldn't have run a games shop in the past, and I wouldn't spend far too much time on the internet trawling forums and looking at models. I'd be a completely different person.
I never met him, but I did write him a letter once to complain about price rises (blister packs going from 5 models for £2.50 to 4 models for £2.99 - which was significant to me because I got £2.50 pocket money at the time).
Visited Stoke Hall at the beginning of the year.Amazing collection of miniatures. Rest in Peace.
"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

I bought all of that because Bryan Ansell took GW in the direction he did. Which is phenomenal when you stop and think about it.
Same!
Heck I just worked out that I got into gaming in the 90s when I must have been around 8-10 years old and I'm still in it. Had on-off periods throughout those years, but he took GW in a direction and saw it create models, games, lore, art and more that has lasted the test of time and had a huge impact on my life - and others.
My condolences to his family and my thanks to a man who was a big part in creating something life-long for me and others
Rest in peace, you had a huge impact on the gaming world for the better. His actions brought people together that might not have ever met each other, personally many of my friends today are warhammer buddies.
