Genuinely saddened to hear via Tumoas Pirinen’s Facebook that Bryan Ansell, a driving force behind early Games Workshop passed away today.

I for one will be looking to include some spiky bits on my next modelling project, dedicated to his memory.

Thank you Mr Ansell. You changed a tiny me’s world.

It's safe to say that Warhammer would not exist if not for Mr. Ansell. Thanks for all the good times, Mighty, Dark-Winged, Avenging One.

Sad news, never met the man, but he influenced my life.

The objective of the game is to win. The point of the game is to have fun. The two should never be confused.

Wargaming as we know it wouldn’t have existed without him.

Man's a legend. In the current crop of histories about GW he looms large but has had no direct input afaik; probably health reasons?
Sincere condelences to his family and all who knew him. His vision has bought joy to hundreds of thousands of people around the world.
He's the man behind slotta bases ffs!
Good shout on the spikey bits, i've a new pack of cocktail sticks here that I can glue to something....

Adding spikey bits to projects is a clever little way to honour a fantastic legacy. Great idea MDG.

Very sad news and damn that is no age at all.

Safe to say so many of us would not have had such enjoyment from wargaming and lives would be that much less the richer without his work. RIP.

Here's a comment (shamelessly ripped from reddit) for others like myself who are not versed in the who-done-what of GW history -

None of us would be here without him. He founded Citadel Minuatures, he hired people like the Perry Twins, Rick Priestly and Richard Halliwelll. He ordered Warhammer to be written, he invented plastic bases for miniatures and blister packs. He was the driving force behind the Realm of Chaos books, which arguably were the foundational Warhammer books and laid the foundation of the unique cosmology that set Warhammer apart from other fantasy and sci-fi creations.

Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone may have created Game Workshop, but Bryan Ansell turned it into the company of Warhammer. For better or worse, he set the course the corporation would follow for the next few decades.

If you ever painted a fantasy miniature or moved a fantasy toy soldier over a tabletop, you have done so because of this man’s vision.

And if for nothing else, for this alone I thank him. The Perry twins sculpted the lion's share of the Middle-earth range and that means a great deal too me.

I'd heard the name before, and now realize who I have to thank for all the times I stabbed myself assembling Chaos minis.

I'll dig out some Chaos from my pile of shame in his honor, and any future blood sacrifices will go to him instead of the dice gods.

Thank you, Bryan.

Bryan created the modern wargaming hobby. He created the golden years of GW. His legacy is immense.

Reading the 'Talking Miniatures' books over Christmas you realise he was the root stock of everything.

A life very well lived.
