Sorry Void, I'm just not a fan of the smurfs. As for why I picked the BA dex... Mostly because beyond being a fun army to make I would like it to be competative. I really wanted to use the Black Templars to be honest. I love the idea of mixing the Shields in with scouts that look like spartans and greeks.

I would have gone with the iron hands if it was going to be heavy support...heavy. I think for the most part its going to end up being alot of troops, almost swarmy. I like raven guard alot too but it just didn't fit for me personally.

Well, because of the background and style of this chapter.

They aren't mad about machines and they enjoy the use of human auxillaries, which the Raven Guard eschew, preferring to work unobserved by "all save their foes".

i agree with you mr.nids.my first thought of a codex for this army would of been The templars too...but after looking into the BA codex a lil bit more there were more fitting i think....but it dont mean we cant mix the two together to make our fan dex.....
And another Question are we making the shields a lost legion or are the just a successor chapter i am so confused about that

I was never a fan of using the two lost legions blank as a way of making a new legion/Primarch. Unknown Primarchs, sure, take the BR. Unless..of course.. that means you're going to read C.S. Goto's crap. Multi-laser wielding marines surfing tanks that backflip and change into different tanks mutliple times before returning to their "original" form. Oh and Deathwatch allying with an Eldar. Yeah, the Alien-hunter and the Alien. :(

If we're making a fandex and not using the BA 'dex, then I'll just be a show-off and point out I've done a Fandex before. ( for boasting) You can find said fandex in my created threads section on ma profile.


Now, really back on-topic. Somehow, I don't feel like they should be Blood Angels successors.. it just doesn't "feel" right. The codex - yeah, sure, no problem with using it, but making them BA successor just seems a bit off.

Do the blood raven thing and just leave everything as "unknown"

Ok so heres the deal.

The chapter is going to be a Lost Primarch Chapter for the sake of fluff. This leaves us WIDE open for alot of fun with fluff. As for the codex I am using the BA codex for games and armylists. If at some point the Black Templar dex gets updated and is more what I'm looking for I will switch to that. The main reason I wanted the BA dex is also for the fact that the BAs are extremely loyal to the emperor and are extremely vicious. Especially when the red thirts or black rage takes hold. The Shields are meant to be killers plain and simple. They are born and raised for nothing else, and their loyalty to the Emperor of mankind is infalliable.

@vignor- I like those ideas for successors.
@WM360- I love the unknown feel, thats one of the reasons I like the lost primarch idea. Leaves alot up in the air.

Oh and do me a favor guys, remember what this thread is all about and please don't get caught up in little debates. This is supposed to be fun and informational! You all have given me more inspiration than I ever expected- 11 pages and counting. Thanks again and lets keep it fun ok?

What if the shields of the assault marines had bolt pistols attached to them?

and are treated as holy relics By BA's what if the shields had a shield or spear blessed by the emperor or primarch....and i should be getting my first few terminators for my shields chapter soon

Would you have a problem with the primarch of the shields still be living....i think it would be cool if he was...and could we base him off Hercules and Odysseus for his origins..lets say the way he rose to fame on his planet was that the populous of the state or town that found the infant primarch thought him to be a god because they found him on the top of the tallest mountain on the planet were there is a temple to there Zeus

yeah i think he is going to have to go bye bye too ..unless we can think of a way for there to be a reason for a death company and shield priesthood...

Maybe they have a geneseed condition, that the older the marine is the more likely they are to get it; their bodies toughen and they become stronger - but their bodies cannot take this kind of rapid evolution/change so they eventually die - but they get to go to battle one last time - which would make it feasable to include small units (10?) of DC. Lots of 'em would be silly.

Sanguinary Priests could basically be Chaplains and Apothecaries rolled into one - meaning that they have Furious Charge because they are insighted by the Chaplain and FnP because of the apothecary side. This'd be interesting for conversion.

It would mean that normal Chaplains wouldn't really have a place in the army, though. Unless you use them in Deathcompany to say that the chaplains going to their death too so don't care about healing their already tougher brothers (FnP).

HUM they could suffer from the gorgon curse they could slowly calcify from the inside out until there statues....that would just be Dumb...but stil we could work out some things from Hercules who killed himself by setting himself ablaze...maybe the primarch constable-combusted some how that still sounds a bit unbelievable but that some how affected the rest of the shields by just feeling the horror of that...idk im at a lost

ewww there primarch could of had a curse placed on him by some ancient chaos beast before the emperor showed up..
like they will all turn to raving mad men at the sight or touch or a hidden unconscionable thought or image that afflicts the one that think of like when the primarch went to fight the hydra or to get the girdle proxys the monster was so horrible it almost drove him to madness and caused a permanent imprint on his genome....

Ive been thinking about this maybe the shields are organized into phalanxes which are proxy's of the great company's of the space wolves and our unnamed primarch and Russ were good buddies and there could be totem like the grand annulus
but it would involve the use of shields o'o or columns or obelisk since to move one of the slabs of the annulus you would need 12 space wolves and the company captains can carry the title of Strategoi which was the spartan rank of captain and could be like the wolves warlords and we could even do i a war horse proxy like that of the thunder wolves....

And to tony i know your using BA codex but i thought another thing that was going along in threads dynamics was a fandex and im just putting idears up on here to see what people would think about using stuff from other codex's to give the shields a uniqueness to them..and i am off to scow the black templers for some ideas...and p.s its my 21st birthday so im jacked up with creation today...

I have an idea I saw someone do for a Ultramarines captain. use the Dante model, and remove his axe. reposition his hand and give him a spear. Put a shield instead of his infernus pistol.
Swap heads. Bam, instant epic marine.
