One suggestion I have is if you made a version of that piece with

“Atop the Blood Falls, where the acrid ichor of Khorn’e fallen champions tumbles endlessly into the void, Draigo slew the great Bloodthirster Kar’Voth. With cleansing fire he drove the demonic taint from the beast’s great axe, and used the molten remains to reforge his sword, sundered in battle with M’Kar the Reborn so long ago.”

as sort of a title. Maybe on a scroll accross the very top of the page in small writing so it doesn't distract.

I actually want to do 5 pieces as a series with the relevant text incorporated in some way; just haven't figured out how to do it yet. So I'm one step ahead of you!

But yes, I feel like having the text incorporated somehow will definitely help. Glad you like it

Might have a few commissions before Draigo gets to burn down Nurgle's garden (and going to gencon and stuff), but it will happen!

Maybe at the bottom behind Draigo. That wouldn't be distracting and might be very artistic.

Will these pieces all be looking over Draigo's shoulder? I think that could make for a cool way of tying all the pieces together.

Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.

For the text, probably something like that.

As for every picture behind Draigo, while that might be fun, it would be very limiting in terms of composition and variety in the pieces. I already have the garden of nurgle piece sort of comp'd out, and Draigo is definitely the 'focus' of the piece, but it isn't an over-the-shoulder shot.

Its him, in the garden of nurgle, the ground and his (daemon-forged)blade alit with fire, surrounded by Plaguebearers and a Great Unclean One nearby, and of course a carpet of crunchy nurglings closing fast. One of the plaguebearers is being smited with fire as well, and one if close to the camera shouting at his companions to get in there and get chopped up.

Cool, just a suggestion.

Maybe another series can be done in that veign.

Hey guys, here is what I'm working on... started off as a custom codex commission, but now, well... might just be finishing it on my own.

http://galefire.com/2012/08/commission-custom-40k-codex-cover/

Also have another draigo pic in the works right after he forges his new blade; before doing Nurgles Garden anyway.

Ack, now avatars for the forum aren't working on this computer either! Why is this happening?

Alright, this guy is done.

Started as a commission... but now probably just some art for my counts-as-CSM army

Very cool.

Though some criticism, the marines all look very similar.. would be good if there was a bit more variety and personality. The chaplain's crozius could be more impressive I have to say, unless that's actually a librarian.

I didn't think the crozius was supposed to be too OTT, I asked my wife if I should make it on fire as well, but she said no

As for looking the same, I thought I gave them enough differentiation for being the rank-and-file type guys. Both guys in front have different gorgets, weapons, etc. Obviously chaplain is significantly different.

Don't get me wrong, I picked up on the small differences. Maybe if they had more dynamic poses or if more marines doing different things could be seen in the background, fore example a la the cover for battle for macragge.

As for the Chaplain, his pointing arm looks weird because it has no prominent arm joint and the crozius isn't very imposing sadly. Also, because of all the light colouring of the fire and the tactical marine's armour and the comparatively dark colour of the chaplain, I'm not drawn towards him and am instead left looking around the outskirts of the picture.

Still, my nitpicking aside, it's a very good piece.

Yea I see where you're going, but as always, lots more dudes = way more time. Also, this started as a commission... till the guy backed out, so its not exactly my favorite composition ever, but I wanted to finish it anyway.

Your eyes going to the lights is fine, that's how its supposed to work anyway and that is why the chaplain has that big shiny backpack crest. There is a joint, I guess it just isn't very apparent.

Glad you like it tho, seems to be pretty well liked from where I've shown it so far, which is nice for re-purposing a piece someone pulls out on me on.

Next up is a bit of unrelated 40k character art that I probably won't post, then another couple Draigo pieces that is if the Dreampod 9(FFG, Paizo, etc) guys don't send me a bunch of stuff to do all of a sudden.

Nice, I can't say how bummed I was that GK Chaplains didn't make it into the codex. I can't imagine anything more badass.

I suppose it was to keep the GK's different enough from other marines. You know, like how they don't have storm shields.

Except Draigo. No good gosh darn warp-enhanced Über heretic.

I look forward to it.

Also, random thought and probably not something you'll take to anyway.. but over on my site we've got a great Deathwatch game going, it would be awesome if you drew a group shot or something. Not a commission mind you because I'm skint, but just an idea for a rainy day.

Trials of Draigo – The reforged… Titansword?

The angle/placement of the greater daemon's horn is kinda weird, but other than that, great picture.

You're actually the first person who has mentioned something about the horns. Its not too late for me to tweak it; what do you think should be different?

Well, Khornate demon horns tend to be bull-like, so they flare outwards. Yours seem to run parallel or even to be coming to a point (i.e. goat-like), which is more of a Slaanesh thing. In any case, it just looks kind of weird. I would flip the horn so it is going to the right of the screen at the same angle as the other horn.

I think it will frame the image better, letting the eye flow in a natural spiral from Draigo's torso and face, across his right shoulder, down his sword, across his greaves and feet to the daemon's tongue, up the daemon's face and the horn to the right of the screen, and finishing up by looping back to the ethereal daemon face in the background.

Just a thought, it looks awesome in either case.

I think the horns look kinda odd, for being right over the eye socket, as well.

I changed the horn, I like it better (Scroll up, I don't want to post it twice in one page )

thanks for the suggestion.

Also, here is an early comp for the next piece in Nurgles domain...

I has what plagues most of the art in 40k...

Proportions. Tiny heads to tiny arms, holy hell.

Yea, topping that composition is going to be tough.

Take it up with GW, and the arms aren't really tiny on SPEHSS MARINEZ.

It is not GW, it's the artist or sculptor. There is plenty of GW art where proportions aren't too bad on space marines. Also, I made a made typo. Where it says "I has" I meant to say "it has".

Anyway, the problem with your art on the space marines are proportions.

Tactful.

I'll continue to go by what I am looking at in my codicies, but thanks for your critique.
