I have finished the substructure of ribs for this new dwarven ironclad. I have some pics to show its scale against the last ship. The decks will go next, but I fear I will run out of cardboard soon.

I had everything ready to record the building of the ship in video, but my camera does not support anymore than 15 minutes of video, which is clearly not enough to record this project.

Here you can see some plating, which will be on the inside of the rear area of the ship. It is the simplest plating the boat will have. A similar plating will be made for the inner front area of the ship.

I expect to be able to show it to you in place quite soon:

Ok, ok, here you've got it!

Now you can see it on its propper place. I have also put some reinforcements for the ribs which will not be seen on the final product, and the main decks are finished.

To be honest, I wanted a small ironclad, of about the length of the smaller ship. But due to it's architecture, the need to have room for miniatures to maneuver between the walls and on the upper decks forced me to upscale the whole ship. I still think it feels somewhat odd.

i think the major issue with the odd feeling derives from the slightly taller structure...than it is long... but that will be totally outshined by the sheer awsome amount of detail you are aplying...

I am not sure if I get your point regarding the odd feeling. Anyway, as you can surely notice by now, its design is based on the Dreadfleet Dwarven Ironclad, just downscaled and heavily modified. More straight lines, suitable places for models to stand, no visible cannons nor turrets, and no exhausts (in order to provide the ship with more usable space) and waaaay more ornate.

my comment was in no way meant to be something to belittle your work here... the oddness was something you you mentioned first and i just wanted to say that it was due to the hulking size of that built that the look might be felt as odd...but that is intentional... after all it is a design made by dwarfes adn for dwarfes... so stocky looking people build stocky looking vehicles/architecture and so on...

it looks the part it is meant to be!

I did not mean to confront you, I just did not get the references to height and length. No offense taken, of course. I am now thinking the odd feeling is derived of the long lenght of the central section. Anyway, things will change a lot when I get the hull done...

It's really easy, and you can see it if you look carefully at the templates I built. Click to zoom to the left part of the image, where the substructure is located. You will notice vertical cuts on the longitudinal pieces, corresponding with the opposing cuts in the ribs. Nothing groundbreaking. As you pointed out, it's something that has been done for ages in order to create semi-3d structures such as trees for conceptual scale models.

I have been told there will be a wargaming and roleplaying event on my University, and I have contacted the organizer in order to get some Mordheim games in.

Unfortunately there is not a lot of scenery there, so I said I would bring my boats.

But I would like to be able play in a good looking table in that event. They can provide me with two small buildings, but nothing else.

Therefore, I thought this would be a great chance to tidy up my scenery, and turn the foam I usually play in, into propper stone streets, in addition to create some buildings I could use in my garage games.

So I grabbed the foam I have stored (not as big an ammount as I'd like, unfortunately) and started carving the stone. The idea is to create several surfaces of different sizes, which can be even put one on top of another to create different ground levels.
