I can't for th elife of me remember what the stuff is called. I'll have to poke around in my brain-files some more.
Gunze Sangyo, or GSI Creos as they're called these days makes a good variety of hobby supplies. I'm pretty sure they made some sort of decal setting liquid, too.

About the Crimson Fist decal... there is no nice way to say this, but decals pretty much suck when applied to curved surfaces. So, you're going to have to paint the insignia on if you want it to look really nice.
Had to smile when I saw the beaky though. Takes me back to the good old days of RT/2nd ed.
I don't really mind if the decal ends up sucking. I really don't want to freehand the insignia.

I couldn't really wait to get them all done in a batch, so I went ahead and completed two of my Danamian Jungle Fighters from Mad Robot. Normally, I'm not that much of a fan of the Heroic proportions, but I really like these figures.
Eventually, I may order another set to make a Vietnam style LRRP team to act as Vets.

Fantasy!? What the hell is fantasy stuff doing here?
Yeah, I'm not normally that big on fantasy stuff. Warmachine I'm cool with since it's all over the place with stuff looking like it's right out of WWI and others looking like medieval knights. Generally though, I tend to avoid it. There's a few types of Fantasy things I do kind of like though: beastmen (like werewolves and gnolls), stuff in heavy armor (even moreso if the face is covered), and undead. Most of my fantasy stuff tends to lean towards undead. I think someday, if I ever actually finish painting all of my skeletons, I may photograph my full undead army. Until then, how about an empty suit of armor?
I was at Brookhurst Hobbies this past weekend and was looking for something cheap to grab. I saw the ghost-in-a-suit-of-armor figures and knew I had to get one. That is just cool. The figure is one of Reapers, and from the looks of him, he might be a somewhat older sculpt since he's kind of huge in comparison to similarly scaled guys. I don't mind though, since it's a fracking possessed suit of armor!
While at Brookhurst, I also grabbed an Infinity figure. I got a Shasvastii Shrouded, mainly because I wanted to see how the desert colors would look on one of their more basic looking troops.
I think he actually looks decent like that. I'm fairly happy with how he looks, so I'll be dipping him. Once I've done that, I'll be adding the lighting to the red bits and on his rifle.
He looks decent with his Gwailo buddy, too.
I also got a Mobile Brigada from FRP Games. And, this picture makes him look outright terrible. Overall I wasn't too happy with how he was turning out anyway, so I may just dump him in the Simple Green and start over. I think I might try and go for something a little different and closer to the studio colors rather than my blue and yellow scheme. It doesn't lend itself too well to this guy.

The killer armor looks great, as does the infinity guy.
The mobile brigada is a little off, as you say. I think the blue needs interrupted by another color a little more maybe.

I actually really like that blue, and I think he'll look good if you stick with it. I think the problem is with the picture is that he's too bright and could use some contrast. The greys could be washed darker, more like a black, and once the gun is done I think it'll look less garish. There is a lot of bright going on, but I really like what it could be with just a few more tweaks. You'll figure something out I'm sure.

Hmm. Does a different angle help?
I'll admit, he looks a bit better from this angle. Still, I don't know. I'm ind of thinking dump the colors for black armor with red trim. I'm planning on doing that with my Intruder, so it might not be too bad to have at least a couple guys in red.

I'm anti-box paint scheme, so I love it. But that's just me. If you don't love it, you should do what you want to do. I think once the grey areas are washed it'll look better, but I do think the blue is well done and gives him some unique pop.

No I like it now. THere was too much blue in the other shot but maybe it's just from that specific angle. The white on the arm breaks it up nicely and I do like the blue.

I like the ghost armor. Reaper has some interesting stuff (I have a few pathfinder figs, and the helper robots to act as palbot proxies)
The blue is flat looking, due to lighting? Maybe try glazing a darker version of it into the recesses and areas that get less light. I like the look though. The Shas look cool in those colors. Nice call on that.

I dip my metals, so that'll help with filling in the recesses. I've been staring at the pics of the Mobile Brigada all day at work wondering what kind of alternate scheme I could use on him. I like the blue, grey, and yellow, but it just doesn't feel quite right on that sculpt. I'm kind of thinking maybe go for a black-ish armor, keep the very light grey on the arms, keep the white rifle, and add blue trim to the armor. That way he'll have a more tactical feel, yet still retain all of the colors of the rest of my Nomads. Maybe stick a tiny bit of yellow here and there, too.

I haven't been posting anything in my plog for a while. There's a couple reasons for that. First, I've been house sitting (again) wihle my parents were in Japan visiting my brother. Second, There have been some family issues, namely that we had a death in the family. So, naturally, I haven't really had the time or capability to paint anything. I finally just got back home yesterday and went right to work. Unfortunately, only one of the figures I've been painting is actually close to done.
I've decided that my main Haqqislam force is going to be Qapu Kalqi. The main reason is because I want to be able to use Druze and Kaplans. Plus, there's the fact that I can use Nomads with them. I didn't want to use my actual Alguacile figures though since A)they're ugly and B)they won't fit in too well with my other Haqqislam figures. So, I had the "genius" idea to proxy the Nomad figures. What I'm going to use will be the Hasslefree modern soldiers. I just finished up painting the first one.
Man, I'm just not very good at doing freehand or camo. I tried painting the Nomad insignia on his cap, but it's blobby and looks gakky. Also, my main brush is starting to fray, so I had issues getting some of the lines straight. *sigh* I have to replace that brush now, too. The nice thing about this guy is that he can stand in as either a combi rifle Alguacile or a missile launcher one. I've got two more modern troopers coming to join him, too. One female, and one male with an M-4. Once Hasslefree releases the next modern soldier with the gas mask, "Alien," I'll add him into the mix as well. I also plan to use one of Hasslefree's power armored guys as a Mobile Brigada.
Speaking of Mobile Brigada, I stripped his paint. I came across a picture of a guy's woodland Corregidor team and I got the urge to make one for myself. So, my Mobile Brigada will be the first figure in a 150 point Corregidor team geared up for woodland combat. I suppose maybe they'll be deployed to Ariadna or Acontecimento.

He's going to look good once he hits the dip. I have issue painting camo on smaller models too. I tried doing some for my Ariadna, and eventually just gave up and did a quick line pattern all over their BDUs. I can tell the Nomad symbol is a Nomad symbol, so I think it turned out well. Freehand is haaaard.
I want to pick up some of the Hasslefree guys to use as Chausseurs, but shipping across the pond is balls. I think that model is going to push me to do it sooner rather than later though.

Hey, who wants to see some bad photos?
I mentioned that I repainted my Brigada to go along with my planned 150 pt. Corregidor woodland team. Well, I photographed him, but it turned out pretty bad.
At first you might think this pic looks okay. No. The colors are WAY off. He's actually using a very nice shade WWII Soviet olive drab with Luftwaffe camo green for the darker green bits. The red I used is actually really dark and nowhere near that bright. The vaguely flesh tone looking color is actually brown, but the camera really brightened it up and makes most of it hard to see other than on his arm. I'm going to use a black wash to darken the eyes and give them a bit of definition. Later, after dipping I plan on doing some OSL there like I did on my Tiger Soldier. Should I keep his HMG white and orange to match up with the rest of my Nomads?
On Thursday, I also received one of Kotobukiya's new Frame Arms kits via HLJ. This is the Durga I. I already got the base robot built up.
Not the best photo, I know. But, it'll have to do for now. I still need to do his weapons and armor. Though, I intend to arm him with some of their extra weapons.
That gatling gun is way cooler than the big one. Plus, the ammo drum and belt make it look way cooler. I'll probably either keep it armed with that, or one of the newer assault rifles.

I dunno about the Mobile Brigada. Matching the gun to the rest of the Nomads would give him so cohesion with the rest of your Nomads, but would clash with the woodland scheme. Sorta like dressing up for camo and then waving a glowstick and a flaregun.
You could paint it something else and then use the bases to tie everything together, so there's that.
I think I can see what you're saying about the colors, but once it gets dipped it'll be good. Just reminds me I need to set up my lightbox proper.

Yeah, you're right about the gun. I decided not to go with the white and orange. I also got rid of the yellow eyes and the red hoses on his helmet. I think aside from sculpting him a base, he's ready for dipping.
I also painted up one of my Stim Hounds from Anvil. I like these dogs. I'm glad Joel took my suggestion to do attack dogs.
As you can see, they're very small, but nicely detailed.
I'll have fun coming up with coat colorings for the other three dogs.

Those Stimhounds are cool looking, and sized really well for Infinity. I'd love to use them as stand ins for an Antipode pack.
The more muted tones on the Brigada look good. I'm still a fan of the brilliant facepunching blue, but this looks cool as well. Ties him in more with your Anaconda.
To the dip!
Oh! And I had a request if you manage to read this before going to the dipping stage. Is there any way I could bribe you to do a step by step of the dipping process you use? I've been trying to explain it to my friends, and the concept is a little nebulous for them I think. If not, no worries.

I've got a few guys that need to be dipped. I should probably get around to it this weekend, if I can bring myself to do it. I'll take some pics though. There's not a whole lot to it, especially now that I've begun painting the dip on, it's even easier than before.
I actually got around to opening up that Wu-Ming box I've had laying around, untouched for months. I tried to stick to the camo scheme I used for my shotgun Wu-Ming. I know the orange stands out against the camo, but I like how it looks.
Despite the fact that I did change the colors just a bit by using black instead of a third shade of green, both the new one and the original one look pretty good together.

You're painting the dip on now? How? With those sponge brushes?
Any advantages to doing it that way versus buying the ink washes and going to town? After all, you're still having to brush it all on.
If it gives a better protective coat than just a layer of ink (and a dull coat naturally) I might have to try that out, what with the way the kids tend to manhandle everything within reach.
