I think that's one of the major problems for me. I really like those guys you're doing, I like the Dark Elf-looking faction, I like the Trollbloods, I like the Wolfen-looking guys... and the Ogre mercenaries and others look sweet as well.

I've got the 2-player starter box somewhere, actually. No idea where, though. I should look for it.

I'm in much the same boat Azazelx. I like stuff from just about every faction, and have just been picking up figures to paint over the last few years, and ended up with actually viable forces for a few of them were I ever to use them in an actual game of Warmachine. Some day.... some... day....

Yesterday I felt like taking a break from Privateer figures. So I dipped in to my box of stuff to work on nearby, pulled out a half dozen models, and started working. Here are the results.

First up, I finally finished off these kobolds of mine that I've had for way too long. At one point they were giving me a lot of trouble- they were too small, I couldn't decide on a paint scheme... I don't know what the deal was. They're done now though. I also started working on the Mind Flayer Bones guy that came out around the same time. He'll be done by Monday, especially with vacation starting.

Nearby were a few undead Bones figures, so I figured they'd be a quick set to paint. The specter/ boss thing needs to be finished still. Might paint a few more skeletons this weekend just because they're so fast and easy to paint.

Then I started something REALLY different. Behold!

An old Warzone Cybertronic Attila! Why in the world is he so big? Why does he have metal bolted on to his giant face? I don't know!

His face looks crappy. Not sure if it's due to too much primer, soft details, general ugliness... the rest of him looks decent. Not sure what I was channeling for that paint scheme. Bubblegum Crisis perhaps?

Last up is a Troll Outpost Fimir- inspired "Swamp Warrior" I believe.

TOTALLY a Fimir though.

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

Wow, I don't think I've seen a Fimir figure in like, 20 years or something. Totally forgot about those guys. And you even painted a new Warzone figure! I thought you had finished all of them. I didn't know you had picked up that Atilla. It looks like you've been way more productive than me this week. I've only managed to complete two figures.

Technically, it's a "Swamp People Warrior," according to Troll Outpost Miniatures, the manufacturer.

It's a pretty decent resin cast too.

I've got a pretty decent chunk of old Warzone stuff that's half painted or primed hiding around. My hope is to get them done in 2016. I don't even know what I've got to tell the truth though.

That's not even taking into account all the Resurrection stuff I've accumulated too.

I've got to get those Crimson Devils you got me started one of these days!

I think i've managed 2 figures fro the Wz Ressurection KS plus 2 eggdroids that now are suffering from a terminal case of weak resin ankles. Have you experienced that?

Which figures are the egg droids?

Most of my Warzone stuff isn't even built yet, but I have mostly human sized figures as well.

On the other hand, my dino riding Blaine from Kings of War is resting on the round now, whereas he once used to be completely standing up.

Ah. Now I get you.

I wonder if it's the resin Prodoss uses? I know I've got a few other big resin kits, but I don't see any issues with them standing up.

Just my Prodoss stuff seems to be bending over like cheap Bones stuff... hmm...

I'll admit though, first thing I did was scope out everything in the pictures but the mecha. Looks like a Gundam box in the left side of the frame...

So I was not the only one. True that at that point the KS was all rushed with people complaining all over the place so it wouldn't surprise me if Prodos took some shortcuts while in production. Still I love the sculpts tho.

I'm afraid not. That's my airbrush (actually stolen from a friend) Mechas are stored in the closet (execpt when they break out)

Christmas vacation is upon us!

What better way to start it off than with a miserable migraine?

I swear I get some nasty bug EVERY time I have a serious moment of downtime. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.

My parents were going to take my kids to Knott's Berry Farm for the day. I haven't been in decades. My wife has never been... ever. We were all set to go, and then BAM... nasty migraine. Stuck at home.

So with no kids in the house, you'd think we'd get up to all sorts of wacky hijinks, right? Nah. I slept almost 6 hours straight in the middle of the day, ate what should constitute baby food, and watched an assortment of badly dubbed martial arts films from around the world.

Certainly not the most fun I've had for the start of an extended vacation period.

I did manage to do a little bit of painting though.

I got Lord Arcanist Ossyan started and finished at some point between Friday and Tuesday morning.

I love his sci fi space elf armor. He's got a blaster gauntlet!

Here's his buddy, a House Shyeel Artificer

Hard to see but the colors are way too dark on him. Going to go back over him today and finish all his glowy orbs. Gotta do his base too, along with a batch of 5 trolls that I never bothered to finish yet.
Sadly you can't see his little pointy shoes floating at the bottom of his cloak. They kind of blend in to his robes.

I started working on The Ancestral Advocate Zaal. According to the fluff, he was a Skorne warlock in the Hordes game who got mortally wounded, and his attendants trasnferred his Eldar soul stone thingee into this giant stone ancestral guardian body (the Skorne are really into their souls acting like Eldar ones, and carry stones around with them to keep them safe from Slanees... the "void."). Skorne also have lots of these stone guardian terra cotta warrior type thingees, but none are as large as Zaal here.

He could give Ashpyxious over there in the corner a run for sheer size of a basic non- monster figure.

He also has a huge cape and headdress I haven't attached yet, but almost finished painting nonetheless.

I've thought he'd make a great Tomb Kings mage or some such.

Speaking of undead, I got a Bane Thrall officer for a reasonable price recently, and even managed to get him painted. Can't say the same for the standard bearer he came with, or the unit of Thralls I built before Thanksgiving...

While not as large as Zaal or Asphyxious, he's a pretty big guy for a regular troop on a 30mm base. Those giant axes in both hands certainly aren't helping him conserve space.

Now something totally different!

These two pinkie guys are some 15mm Blue Moon aliens. They cost me a whopping 60 cents. There's a few more. They seem big for 15mm guys though, considering if I put them on a base they're almost as large as that Iron Kingdoms human.

Tempted to hunt down some more cheap 15mm stuff though. Thanks a lot Barzam!

In other news, I was impressed by Bob's willingness to let his child go to work on his Bones. I figured I'd do the same, as my daughter has been quite pushy about wanting to paint stuff. I guess that's the only way I'll get the box of Bones 2 out of the way before the 3rd one arrives!

The skin and green shirt on the Valkyrie were done my me a milennia ago, everything else is all her. This is still a work in progress though! She informed me she isn't done! Lots of pink, purples, pastel blues... where did she find these colors in my collection? Why am I not using them more often?

Those pinkies aren't even close to being done. I'm going to go with a red wash on them, eyes, teeth, gun details, highlights on their carapace... do something with those bases....

They do need something to fight though.

Today is Christmas Eve? What will Santa be bringing me?

I don't know. But I know I've been trying to clear space on my table for whatever will be arriving soon.

I started off with the tiniest- those little 15mm alien guys.

They were actually kind of fun to paint. I didn't need to worry so much about all the little details.

Here those guys are next to a figure I just did yesterday, Vice Scruator Vindictus.

Photos not as sharp as it needs to be, but hopefully I can that straightened out soon when we get a new camera.

Zaal got himself finished, and is hanging out with some of his Skorne Immortal friends. The one on the left is from Makeda's Exalted Court, while the right one is Hakaar the Destroyer, a solo Skorne model I painted some time ago. I'm not sure if I ever sealed Hakaar. He's a very simple paint job, but he still holds a warm place in my heart for being one of the first figures I really tried to do all the detail work on.

Speaking of figures with lots of detail work, here's three of them that will give me all sorts of irritations that deeper I get in to painting them.

On the left is a Tyrant Commander from the Skorne army, who is REALLY big and bulky. Can't stand the positioning of his left hand, all clutched up to his chest. Wish he'd have it outstretched barking orders at the other Skorne or challenging some other hero from the rival army they're assaulting.

The center figure is a Circle Oroboros Druid. Nothing fancy really, he's one of the metal ones, but they have all kinds of crazy gold patterning on their armor as well.

Last up is Tyrant Vorkesh, who's a little underwhelming at the moment, what with missing his shield hand and his signature super gigantic shoulder pads. That dude has some Menoth level shoulder padding going on! You'll see soon enough, or you can cheat and check him out on the internet.

The last models I'm working on have chosen to be my biggest challenges, in just how should I paint them.

The left is Vociferon, a skarlock thrall who hangs out with the Lich Lord Asphyxious, swallowing souls in his little banner pole there to fuel all their evil spooky scary skeleton- like ways.
Center is a Bane Thrall Standard Bearer, who actually isn't a big deal painting, it's his standard I have no real conclusion on what to do with.

Finally is the bear... which is supposed to be a polar bear. I'm trying to figure out what color to actually paint him. He's currently a really off white/ tan/ buff color, with a bit of a red- brown wash to help the rest of the fur stand out.

Should I leave him as is, or drybrush with an actual white? I know most polar bears aren't true white, just unsure how to progress with it while I get started on his rider.

Hope everyone enjoys their holiday and gets (and gives) what they wanted!

Nice work. I didn't know you had purchased Vindictus. I've almost purchased him many times. Just couldn't ever pull the trigger.

I think Vindictus was actually the first Menoth figure I willingly purchased.

I'd always liked his weird tall lankiness. Something about him. He's got really long, thin limbs, as opposed to guys like Reznik who are obviously made out of meat like the Gears of War guys.

Hell, Reznik isn't even all that imposing when he's hanging out with the Skorne Tyrants. Those guys have some presence. Makes me wish they'd sculpt a new Xerxis on foot where is isn't all hunched over.

Even Tyrant Vorkesh is kind of hunched over. I guess it's the wait of those giant shoulder pads. At least Menoth's chosen know how to still stand while wearing such magnificent shoulder guards.

Riddled with probably close to a dozen cups of coffee, a multitude of sweets made by family members, and various boozes of a variety of proofs I have succumbed to my paintin' chair in front of the computer, having cataloged all my gifts, just like I used to do when I was a little one, and like my kids will probably be doing in a few hours from now. The two of them REFUSED to go to sleep! I wonder why...?

My daughter was so pumped up upon awakening this morning, she rushed out of bed and went screaming down the hallway "IT'S CHRISTMAS EVE TONIGHT!" much to everyone's chagrin, as we were all sleeping at the time.

Our family always gets together on the Eve to do the gifting thing, so that's what she was all pumped about.

Also, Santa comes to their home and all that.

Funny thing, that Santa- he only brings Japanese stuff. NEVER anything in English. Never. Mostly Youkai Watch, Duel Masters, and Pokemon for the boy and Pretty Cure or Ai Katsu! for the girl. Also Shopkins. I guess Santa reneged on his whole Japanese only thing. Whoops.

So enough about everyone else, let's talk about MEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.

PRESENTS. Most provided by the skills of Dakka's own Barzam... or myself, because who knows what to get me better than myself?

First up? Something self- inflicted!

Why God, why? Why have you cursed me with such dinky little parts? How will my terrible eyesight and potato- like fingers ever manage?

Next up- this abomination that Barzam dredged up from my childhood. 4 floppy legs and a giant afterburner anus.

Having paid (a) top dollar, the Aminga is a kit I built and painted with Italian paints my Uncle had when i was in Junior High, back in 91 or 92. We'll see if the kit deteriorates to dust as soon as I open the plastic. If it survives, I may just paint and base it. Basing it would require me to probably glue the joints in place, but this sucker was made back before the days of poly caps anyways. Otherwise he'll flail away like one of those giant inflatable balloon guys in front of the mattress store, trying to coax me in with all the fun he is having.

Acrobunch (the show he originates from) had some seriously ugly models. Do yourself a favor and see if you can find the robot with the giant phallic canon built into its crotch.

Spoilered due to the GRAPHIC nature of this robot! Don't say I didn't warn you, and don't think for a moment that its design wasn't intentional!
Spoiler:

The guy on the left I'd wanted more than the guy on the right, but after finishing the Spartacus TV show, I knew I needed to paint up some gladiators. Really like the Murmillo's design. The other guy is growing on me though...

A year hasn't gone by in the last few that I haven't had a Mantic model waiting for me. Now, half those models still aren't built or painted, and we won't discuss how much of the original Deadzone I still have in baggies, but huzzah! Another Mantic figure for me! I actually have most of the Abyssal heroes. Maybe I ought to start working on them...

Hand picked by Barzam. He knew I've been wanting some of those Typhon/ Children of Set models from Warlords of Aegyptus, even more than the Sobeki stuff. The Reaper elf on the left is a sculpt I've always admired, and figured I might as well give it a shot. Guy has at least four or five swords on him.

My Twilight Knight unleashing two more Convergence Vectors Barzam got me from their plastic bags. Twilight Knight will be seeing some Super Dungeon action very soon. Not sure if I'll paint her or not. Those chibi eyes look very difficult to do, and I have really crummy brushes... Props to Soda Pop for coming through and hooking me up when my order got goofed- I order the Twilight Knight, they sent me Beatrix the Pumpkin Queen boss instead. I got to keep the boss and still got my Knight. Yay!

Ain't a holiday without board games in my house. Tahiti is an old hex and chit game, with a bit of civ building and warfare, along with a great you mechanic for when you're about to lose, where your chieftain can just up and abandon the island, ditching the game to go off exploring in hopes of finding a new island to land on- if you're lucky. Rolling off a chart, you may just die on the way, your canoe could sink...all sorts of fun!

Ogre is Ogre. At the price I got it for, it couldn't be beat. I miss the old plastic clamshell pocket game version. That one had a nicer map too. I don't own that one anymore, sadly.

Hoyuk is a neolithic city building game that was on KS a year or two ago, and I couldn't back but Barzam managed to find a really cheap copy for me. Nice art and I like city builders.

Finally...well, finally for today at least. I have a few more things to show off but I already started modeling them, and it's getting dark.

Books that I have been wanting to get a hold of to read for quite some time. While technically part of the D&D line when they had that whole open gaming license, these books read like history or social science textbooks about the world of Privateer's games. The Character Guide (book 1) is a lot more "gamey" with stats and stuff, but it's still filled to the brim with all sorts of useless world building nuggets.

The world guide though? If there's any actual game content in there, I have yet to see it. It's just one big fluff book about Warmachine and Hordes. And it is big, probably around 300 pages or so. While some details may have changed over time, a lot of the core concepts are exactly the same, as Warmachine proper had already hit the market by that point. Really fun to flip through and read.

Comparing these to the new Iron Kingdoms games, it's like night and day. The new books look nicer, but this has WAY more stuff in it.

Now I just have to get the two Monsternomicon books....

Thankfully your insidious corruption is tempered by other purchases you made on my behalf.

Tyrant Vorkesh is just about done. I did do a little detailing on his gems, and one of the shoulder pad ones needed some gold trim around it, and his base isn't done, but he's getting there.

He's hanging out with a plague monk for some odd reason. Originally he had been glued on another base, but that didn't work out and I made a huge mess with it. So he got fused onto a new one with crappy glue that left burn marks it seems.

If i had my way, he'd have a larger shield and would be holding it up rather than resting it against his armor, but I didn't sculpt it.

Here is the same Tyrant, along with a Tyrant Commander, hanging out with two Khadorian guys I'm also going to start working on since the Skorne dudes are wrapping up.

The Skorne Tyrants are pretty big fellows, as the guy on the left with the gun is a pretty average sized human, while fat guy yelling and waving his weapons around there is supposed to be a pretty big guy.

With all the red paint I was using, I started working on some more Bones stuff I had laying around.

Those are supposed to be a Kobold Leader and Sorcerer respecitvely. That poor kobold's mace! I heated it at least three times- didn't matter. It's going to be a wet noodle it seems. I'll be chopping it off soon enough and replacing with a hard plastic leftover soon. I like the sorcerer. He's got little glasses sitting on his nose, as y'know, kobolds don't have the best vision after all.

I also started working on these Wargods of Aegyptus Typhon that Barzam gave me. With their horn- like ears, pointy tails, and evil looking faces, they had to get painted red. They're clutching their chests as their supposed to have shields in their hands, and actually be able to rank up really tightly, so we'll get those all squared away later.

I had hoped to prime all my new goodies the other day, but I ended up tagging along to go see the new Star Wars movie instead. Hopefully today lends itself to more hobby time, but in the end I doubt it will, as we'll probably be heading off to one of the game shops that's a little bit of a drive from here. We'll see how that goes!

Headed out for the rest of the weekend, but got a bit more hobby stuff done.

Typhon Spearmen are pretty much finished.

Started up a unit of Greylords for Khador.

Also more work on the two Khadorian heroes I've got going (left is a solo, right is a warcaster)

The Khadorians need a LOT of touch up and detailing still. Guess that's my plan for next week.

I got an Anima Tactics box set last night. Upon opening it, instead of being greeted by 5 new figures... there were parts for one and a half, with a few random weapons and legs strewn about in the box.

Not sure who I need to get in touch with for that. Really odd, especially considering it was sealed.

Akemashite Omedetou Gozaimasu!

Time for a new year, time to get some models off the table!

Finished up those Khador chaps finally. ignore the leftover mess on their bases. They just need a quick dust- off and they're good to go.

Happy with the Warcaster in the front with the scarred face and gun. Heck, happy with the big portly yelling guy too. The greylord beardie guys in back are pretty decent now. I've got the evil Santa guy who goes with them, who will probably get primed today.

I finished up these two figures, and just started the one in the middle.

Obviously the Yu Jing guy in the middle isn't done yet. Need to do a lot more on it, but it's not like I'm expecting a studio level paint job.

The other project I've been working on are these guys I picked up in Orange County for 99 cents.

They're an Amazonian Steamboat crew from West Wind's Vampire Wars line. While not the sharpest sculpts, and certainly not the nicest job of cleaning them off, they're not bad... for 99 cents.

Upon purchasing them however, my dad, who was with me at the time at the hobby shop, came under the bug of having an actual steamboat for them to tool around on on the Amazon.

My dad has been a pretty hardcore modeler for as long as I can remember. And by hardcore modeler, I mean that he'll just build it himself out of whatever materials he has laying around.

So with some cardboard, paint, glue, and household bits left over (like a party popper for the boiler), my dad fashioned together a quick little 28mm steamboat for the crew to use.

Behold, the Amazon Queen! Soon loaded up with her cargo, she set out on a grand expedition.

My dad's been making boats like this since I was a kid. This is pretty dinky for him. He's got a FLEET of boats for 1/32 scale Britian's type figures. We used to have naval battles every New Year's Day with my Uncle, which often took the entire day, resulting in all of us getting yelled at upon our arrival home well past the time we were supposed to be done. Both my dad and his brother were in a bit of a cold war when it came to navies, with both of them usually having at least 5 to 7 boats available on average.

After that interlude, let's see how the Amazon Queen is faring...

Unfortunately on her maiden voyage she was set upon by a band of ghostly apparitions that quickly sunk her to the bottom of the riverbed.
You can get a good sense of scale on her there though. She's big enough for 30mm figures to stand on each side of the boiler, have cargo on her,

Of course, for services rendered, I've got to put together a box of Wargames Factory woodland Indians he's had sitting around since last Father's day... maybe I ought to talk him into making some sort of trading outpost terrain, or a tent/ tarp covering for the boat...

Wow you are really doing well at the moment with all these minis you are painting, I wish I was that fast.

Khador guys are very nice they look like really fun minis to paint.

Amazon Queen looks great with the cargo and crew, don't forget you need a river for the boat as well

The Amazon Queen turned out really well. I hope my Prussians show up soon so I can have someone to go with your crew. We'll need some British explorers, too. Definitely need a river.

Those updated Cybertrnic Egg droids look a hell of a lot better than the old 1st Edition ones. I converted one of the guns and started painting mine back in the 1990's and never finished it. I still have it around here somewhere... Your Hordes stuff continues to tempt me. Last thing I bloody need, of course! And what kit is that bear???? I MUST HAVE!! The gladiators look cool as well, and I really want a whole bunch of those WarGods models... eeergh. And the Khador look pretty cool as well. That's a pretty amazing boat that your dad put together. I'm very impressed.

I shall try not to tempt you too much more...maybe. I'm going to try and reign in my impulse spending- at least for the beginning of the year or until I come across the deal of the moment. We won't mention the multitude of Privateer kits I already have built, primed, based... just not actually painted yet.

The bear is yet another Privateer kit. It's one of the Trollblood warlock's mounts. He's huge, the bear is huge, the two of them together are QUITE large. At least 110mm from the base to the top of the troll's head on top of the bear.

I did manage to finish yet another of those Wargods kits, making my holiday Wargods acquisitions complete.

The regular guys are all on 20mm bases, but this guy is on a 25mm and takes up a lot of space due to his positioning and his billowing cloak.

I also did a bit of converting/ fixing up these last few days before school starts up again.

First, I decided to try redoing my Crucifier and putting the old school stripes all over him.

Picture came out real murky (it was kinda dark and late), but I did try and do all the edge in lighting colors to help bring out the details. He's hanging out with my Amazon crew as their boat was commandeered to get fitted for a cover.

I also found a more suitable weapon for that Bones kobold warlord.

It's an old dwarf axe, but it fit him perfect, and it's not bending over on top of his head any more.

In addition to the stuff I haven't photographed (either nowhere close to being ready or getting dumped on ebay) I got a package from Antimatter games yesterday. Yay! BIG lizards!

A Draconid Scout, and a Draconid hero who has an optional flame breath part. Didn't realize he was going to be that big. Both Draconids aren't even on their bases yet, and the scout also has a large pair of wings that won't get glued til I can finishing painting the details on his back.

A Jade Salamander from Shadowsea. A very nice looking Kroxigor replacement. Or an addition to a Kings of War Salamander army possibly? Also quite big on a 50mm base, which isn't even in the photo.

Also this big guy.

Kalath and his mount are big. Bigger than the old metal carnosaur, bigger than the draconid leader on a theropod that is available from Dark Sword Miniatures still, and while not as lithe and long as the new Carnosaur kits, he has a lot of dimension to him.

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

Nice to see some non-Aztec lizardmen. Those guys look really good. Maybe I should get around to painting some of those Deepwars Scaly Horde guys I've got?

Damn - that's a nice haul of lizardmens. What ranges are the winged one, the kroxi-proxie and the Triceratops from?

Luckily I'm out of cash this pay so I can't buy those Hordes Night Elves thingys I was considering. At least not yet...

All those reptiles came from Antimatter Game's Shadowsea line- they also make the underwater skirmish game Deep Wars, and there's a little bit of cross compatibility with both lines.

Sadly, all these reptiles are land bound. Hopefully once I clear out all my current projects they'll be up to the painting plate.

Here's a few of the things I'm trying to finish up painting.

Not the greatest photo, but my Yu Jing officer is almost done. Just got to do the base really. Need to figure out what the foot is resting on there.

My long unfinished Troll Bouncer is just about done. I finished his ham hock hanging on his back. I'll try to photograph it when I do his base. Picture is dark and unfortunately obscured most of his details on his body due to the shield's position. Need to dirty the shield up a bit. I love his patched together look. This metal sculpt is a lot nicer than the plastic one. I don't care for the plastic version at all- probably because it shares a body with the troll axer, whose sculpt I'm not fond of either.

One of my Trollkin Long riders. I believe this guy is supposed to be the champion of the unit. I got the old box of 3 of them (you can have 5 max for a unit I believe) for a whole 15 bucks. He's on a 50mm base for a size reference. His tartan needs a few more colors, and I want to do a bit more with his buffalo thing, and then they both need an ink wash. After that I'll start in on the other two riders that came with him. We was sort of the test subject for color schemes (that and I had to pin him to the base, whereas the other guys are able to stand on their own).

Progress on Borka's polar bear. Need to do his hind claws, the tartan pattern (it's the light blue section of his gear) as well as the studs and stitching on his armor.

Here he is with a work in progress Borka riding him.

At this point the bear is a lot farther along than the rider. I think he looks a lot more polar bear- ish now. I tried to drybrush a more flat white color over all the various other colors that had come before, so at least there's a little depth now to his fur.

Also, I don't think I ever posted my finish Kasaro- To from the Noh Empire in Sodapop's Relic Knights line. Guy is MASSIVE.

That's the Trollkin Long Rider getting dwarfed by both guys in the back there. Kasaro-To is on an 80mm base underneath the rubble. I actually got the last few Noh right before Christmas, so I'm going to have to go ahead and finish painting them up and do a group shot.

PROGRESS!
