A bit over the top in my opinion, but very very nice! Although I have to point out that when you highlight the "cracks," make them finer. Some parts of it almost look like camouflage, but that may just be me...

No pity!
No remorse!
No fear!

For the sword,
1. black base coat
2. mordian blue all over the blade
3. blue ink to darken the ingraving and the blade slightly
4. dry brush mordian blue
5. dry brush ultramarines blue over the edges and a large amount of it near the end of the blade fading into the mordian blue
6. dry brush space wolves grey over the edges but finer and less near the end of the blade
7. dry brush white onto the end and very finely onto the edges, then use white to draw on the lightning bolts.
hope this helps .

oh cool!

It looks like you were going for granite, but made the contrast too high, so it looks like cracked pig iron instead. Basically, you have made the terminator.

i like it...

the cracks all look a bit too thick, as had been said, but it's a great idea...

investing in a good fine detail brush will help a lot with thinner lines...
mine is a 2O W&N...
it's actually almost the same size as the GW Fine Detail brush, which is not that small, but comes to a much finer tip...
by wiping a bit of paint off the tip, after you dip your brush, you can have just the right amount of paint in the shape of the sharp point...
it makes all the difference with any kind of freehand work (and all aspects of mini painting in general)...

cheers

Nicely detailed, but a little OTT for my tastes. He looks a little too shiny to be that beaten up.

Interesting idea, though. You've got me thinking that something similar, but with armour painted in dark grey or black would be very cool... Would look like a walking statue

Remembering that most of the time we won't be peering at a model under a magnifying glass at 2-3 cm (the effect you get with large pics) this is awesome.

A lot of people will say its over the top in detail however could work well in a theme army. Say your army are painted in a way that they have been fighting for a number of *enter time here* and havnt had the chance to repair\replace armour, then very cool.

Also, he could have just gone through some crazy battles and come out alive, if not a little damaged. Some blood splatter or burn\claw marks would be nice.

As for everyday armour, I dont think it fits the SM fuzz. They repair their stuff and this looks too damaged.

Really like your mini. Very nice, good work.

Thank you all for the C&C, I will try next time to do thinner lines, in response to OoieGoie Yeah I thought about adding a bit more damage effects like blood and burns but I thought he would turn out a little to Chaos, the idea for it I had was that they keep the armour clean as possible and give him new cloth/purity seals etc but they aren't able to repair the armor itself.

Sword looks really good. The cracks aren't bad, either, but could be thinner. Basically, jah-joshua took the words out of my mouth. A single-hair brush is inferior to a fine-tip brush with a large well, imo. W&N Series 7, all the way. You will never, ever go back to other brushes again.

I think it looks really great. he looks a bit lit a titan stood on him or something, but also a bit like a living Statue, which is very cool.
I also like the gold eyes, which must have been quite hard to do. Very well Done indeed.

I was using a single-haired brush as an example of how the only way I could make the lines thinner by using one, I actually used a GW fine detail brush . I think that while
yes they could be thinner that these pictures don't quite show just how small they already are, I know you all know how big a mini is but I took this pic anyway to try and better
show the scale.

Yea, pictures have a way of doing that. For all the photos I take of my crap, I never seem satisfied because justice never seems done. Don't take it as anything more than constructive advice, though, because it does look good. Way better than most stuff you see, so don't fret. I just like to be constructive as much as I can and the brush recommendation stands - you will love them, if you ever get them.

And I looked back at the pic and I really like the red loincloth thing. Nicely done.

Thanks for taking note of the eyes as I think there colour is quite rare as everyone seems to like doing red or green, I did the gems in a similar fashion, its meant to be amber but I think I went to yellow .
Also to reply to Finch Claw no I actually dont collect templars nor any particular army really, I just like getting all the models I think look badass .

Sadly I don't think theres any way for me to make them finer now not just because it's already the most finely detailed lines I've ever done
but because due it being NMM and had alot of shading and layering etc I don't really think I can erase any of the lines while retaining the look, if you get what I mean.
