I'd like to include a Librarian in my Deathwatch army. Problem is though, I don't know how they are meant to be painted.

I've seen them done both ways, Black armour and blue. I was just wondering if there was an 'official' colour sceme for Deathwatch Librarians.

Thanks
Grimm

Do it black.

Norm libbies from chapters have it blue. But when a marine gets seconded into the deathwatch he gets his armour re-painted black save one shouldrpad as to not upsert the spirit of the armour.

Thanks for such a quick reply Scott. Just 1 minute and 41 seconds after I posted the topic.

I'm thinking now about painting the armour black, with a blue cloak, just to make it easy to see that it's a Librarian. How does anyone think that'll look?

Should be awesome. If its a flat cloak perhaps the libraian's original chapter's symbol on it? Or the symbol of the Inq?
If ya feeling ambitious.

Oh and the speed of reply was that i clicked 'recent threads' and saw this which inteerests me. ( I like deathwatch)

+1 to Black.

There was a deathwatch libby model in ChapterApproved 2 done in Black.

Black and blue should fit.
Maybe a enchanted blue cloak?

Chapter Approved is Official enough for me. Black it is.

That's a good idea about making the cloak look special. Are there any specific Librarian Symbols? I think that'll look good and'll really make him stand out.

If anyone's interested, Fantasy Flight have published a pic of a Deathwatch Librarian on their site here.

I think I'll paint mine like this, but imagine it with a cloak.

the skull thing on his chest and right knee pad are librarian symbols (on the deathwatch rpg link)
according to lexicanum the right shoulder pad symbol denotes rank and this guy has the same horned skull thing

You would just do the librarian like he was still with his chapter other than the one shoulder guard as far as I know.

ANOTHER QUESTION

What are Scouts called? Would a Scout be called Brother Dave for example, or something else?

I know there arn't Meant to be, but I need something to fill out my troops slots. I've decided to say that a Space Wolf Scout in the Deathwatch has been allowed to choose some other Scouts for a Stealth Mission.

Anyway though, what are normal Scouts called?

By normal scouts do you mean in a regular chapter?

Is so they are called Initiates.

But you could have it like the space wolves have it. They pick to be scouts instead of going to scout company first.

They're Wolf Scouts to Space Wolves, Neophytes to Black Templars and as far as i know they're scouts to every other chapter. I'd guess they're refered to as Brother (whatever the hell their name is), thats how they referred to the scouts in "Rynn's World." In DoW2 cyrus refered to all the scouts as initiates.
Hope that helps

Why do you need scouts to fill those slots?
And which list/codex is your deathwatch based on?

Thanks all. My question was about what you would call a scout. You would call a full marine brother, and I was wondering what a scout would be called. I think that's been addressed now.

Thanks Again.

Yep, It's the SM list, using Sternguard and Kantor. I've decided that I don't want Tac Marines in my list, so I'm having Scouts to fill the slots.

I'm pretty shore that they only take full marines, not initiates. in dow 2 cyrus the scout leader was in deathwatch but i assume during his deathwatch service he was in power armor

Like I said some full brothers deside to stay a scout.
They could be inducted into Deathwatch still only acting as a scout.

Cyrus was initiated and was the "leader" of the tenth company scouts of that specific battle barge. According to one of the Deathwatch novels such Space Marines that would deny themselves a position outside of the 10th Company would not be denied service in the Deathwatch, should their Commander deem it necessary. However, it was also noted that unless they branded a full Space Marine armour they could not be given regular field duty, but instead tasked with protecting their Inquisitor as bodyguards.

Here's my tip for you: Instead of filling up your ranks with scout minis, fill it up with Inquisitorial Stormtroopers count as SM Scouts. Not only can you add some awesome minis to your army but you won't be tossing and turning at night over your rapeage of the so called fluff. =p

I won't bother.

Hmmm, what to do? I was quite keen on DW Scouts, but now I think about it, it would probably be cool to have some converted StormTroopers. Is it fluffy for Inquisitorial StormTroops to accompany a pure DW Force, or would my Count as Kantor have to be an Inquisitor, which is an idea I'm not so keen on. (My idea of an Inquisitor is not one in power armour. Eisenhorn-like Inquisitors are much cooler).

On the scouts naming thing... remember not all chapters use the same naming systems.

For example, the Black Templars use the term "Initiate" for any full battle brother, and the term "Neophyte" in place of what normal chapters would call an initiate.

Most Inquisitors do not take to the battlefield themselves. You shouldn't have to represent him on the battlefield to be able to field Stormies.

I won't bother.

Cool, thanks. I think I'm now going to have StormTroopers instead of Scouts, thanks to your advise, and have a pretty good Idea of how I want to model them, but that's a secret for now. Watch this space.

Remember, you can always tell people that the Inquisitor is working "behind the scenes," (i.e. cowering somewhere) but that he told his personal army of Stormtroopers to obey and follow the commander of the Deathwatch killteam.
