The only codex that is supposed to be put out this year is Dark Eldar and this is supposed to be in October.

i do hear "don't play Dark Angels!!!" but i still bust out my doublewing on a frequent basis.
there is no news of an upcoming DA codex. around christmas, there was a hint from GW that a new army of fleet-based marines would be "winging" it's way over. Dark Angels (as well as Grey Knights and Black Templars) fit the bill for those hints but ALOT of people have been hinting at grey knights as the next marine chapter with none actually coming out with rumors for the DA. i personally don't have any secret knowledge but that's just what i've heard here @ dakka and warseer. hope that helps.

Well, a new DA codex to be released soon would fit into the pattern.
GW needs to make money and Space Marines is all facets sell well.

I've said it once, I've said it a gajillion times.
Dark Angels could be redone incredibly easily.
A lot of the stuff just needs to be changed to be more in line with C: SM. The Storm Shields brought in line, Terminator squads being able to be 5-10 man strong, minor things like that.
Hell, they can hire me to fix it and I could have it done in a week.
WITH proofreading and playtesting.

fixed your post. they don't *NEED* a new codex although i'd love for them to have one (with new units and rules). what they need is a real FAQ/erratta that simply updates their wargear/rules/stats/prices to 5th edition standards. if the 5th edition marine books are playtested in any way, then they can simply change them to the newest marine book stats without fear of powergaming. most fans could whip up a text document with the necessary changes in no time yet GW hasn't had the time/effort/inclination to do so. changing SH to 3++, captains with ws6, ravenwing that can turboboost, etc is easy yet undone. 1 page... that's all it'd take!!!

what can i say.. i have low standards for what i hope GW can accomplish with updates (standards that are sadly not being met)... i'd be happy with one guy at GW putting in an afternoon's worth of effort.

And I've said it many times back...
Other codices require immediate updates, other codices should be priorities.
GW are currently treating different customers with different levels of service.
There is no warning on the cover of a non-marine army that says no updates for 10 fething years whilst marines get multiple codices and updates every 1-2 years.
That is a double standard and discriminatory to players. If little Timmy decides he likes the 'robot deathmachines like Arnie, mom!' and he's bought some, why is it that his army won't get attention for a decade whilst little Johnny gets his marines upgraded every 1-2 years and if he don't like his codex, well he can use a variant one by simply painting his marine as an offshoot chapter and saying it's 'counts as'.
So, again:

sigh... i think you just need to get more into the character of the army you're playing. the necrons waited millions of years in their tombs for life to repopulate the galaxy after the great war against the old ones; fluffwise, i think that justifies the wait for a new codex. oh, and...

its just too damn bad that GW is a business. When you go into a gw store you see marines, the first fig they want you to paint is a marine, the battleforce they try to sell you is marines, the books and posters they sell are of marines. There is a reason they do this, ya know, marines sell. So they have a few options; make a new codex for an army alot of people play/ will play or make a codex for a minority army which isn't going to sell as well. business is about making the money so as long as they keep churning out marine codexes and do the occassional update for another army, they will keep making money and keep the players in a state of relative contentness.
@ OP: frankly i hope its a new black templar codex rather the da, they're technically older and as far as i can tell more popular

A near future Dark Angel release seems unlikely unless GW has kept that secret particularly well hidden. It's a shame because they are great models and a characterful army, but you never see anyone playing with that codex any longer except for the occasional Deathwing army in non-competitive games. I built a massive Dark Angel army when the new plastics were released and am very disappointed in the Codex since the others that followed it are so much better in so many ways, and I only play non-competitive games. The book is just not that much fun to play with against any book that was released after it.

It's not happening any time soon. This fresh off Blood Angels, they'll probably want to wait a little while before refreshing Space Marine sales. Yes, laugh if you are so inclined. There hasn't been a single word about Dark Angels getting redone though.
What's with all the question threads in this forum this week anyway? I've had to flag like 4 of them in the last two days.

No, it's too damned bad you're talking rubbish.
Which other businesses do you see behaving like that then? If Nvidia were producing say, 6 graphics cards, a new bit of software was developed and they only kept updating 1 card to deal, because that was the one that sold the most, I'll take a wild stab in the dark at them getting censure from fair trading regulators, poor customer feedback and a significant dent to their reputation. If you walked into the computer store to buy an Nvidia card and they offered you the full range, you'd be pretty pissed to learn that the type you'd bought wasn't getting the same level of driver updates and customer support as others due to it being less popular.
As to the marines selling well, yes they do, it's called a self fulfilling prophecy. That's why they have posters and life sized marines and books about marines and free marines to paint etc and then, low and fething behold, they sell more of them. Put Ghaz powerklawing Marneus to death on the front of everything, give every a free ork to paint, write hundreds of books about the orks kicking everyone else's arse and you'd see a difference. Marines sell because they are promoted hard and everyone else has them so they put more money into promoting them even more.
And it's bollocks, marines could have one codex and we'd be rid of the craptastic service other armies get.
