Hey guys, I'm on the scrounge for some good advice. I'm after lighting up a few of my bigger Ork models, maybe even the Killer Kans. A while back I did a Land Raider Conversion with which I installed 3 sets of alternating flashing LED's. Unfortunatly, the circuits were sealed behind the Engine Section and the guy on Ebay doesn't sell them anymore.
So does anyone know where I can get any flashing LED kits, or have a circuit diagram I can use then buy the parts to solder the circuit together. I've been looking at suppliers in the UK, and the only one I can find is 'Maplin Electronics', but their flashing LED kits are rather pricey.
I'm looking for a kit that will use a small battery and will have 2 flashing LED's, one for the gun barrell, one for the eye sensor and will fit in an Ork Kan. I've then after something a little bit more snazzy, with several LED's for use on the larger vehicles, like the Stompa or a SkullHamma. Battery and circuit size won't be a problem with these bad boys. The Stompa I'm planning to have the head move from side to side, and I've got a Tamiya motor and gearing mechanism to drive this.
If anyones any experience or can provide some linky's, its appreciated.

Ooo, that sounds fancier than my idea which admittedly is a rip off of someone elses idea. I was going to put running lights on my Valkyrie and a little MIDI speaker that played 'Ride of the Valkyries' in the troop section...
Then I had a good look at some circuit boards and then I realised I sucked at electronics!
That being said, I've always found that Jaycar has some really good stuff for sale...I don't know about in South Africa though mate, sorry!

Look at model railway supplies. The German company Busch does LED kits like this. But they are not super cheap either.

There's also a company called "Rapid Electronics", you may be able to find a good deal there. Also, if you're looking for a circuit diagram, look for a "555 monostable", that would provide you with a stable LED. If you want flashing, look for a "555 astable".
Hope that helps.
Here's the 555 monostable
It's much simpler than it looks. You simply need the correct components leading to the correct pins on the 555 chip, which are not in the correct position as on the diagram above. The LED will remain on when activated, and the time of which it remains on for can be changed by changing the value of the capacitor, labelled C1 on the diagram.
Or you can use the 555 astable
It's just like the monostable, except that the LED's flash at a regular pace. Changing the value of C1 will change the frequency at which they flash.
Edit: Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

If you do put this in a stompa ether use a recharge setup with permanent recharge batts or have a batt holder on the bottom there is plenty of room there for an 8 cell setup.

Or go to your local toyshop and check for cheap blinking vehicles/guns/others. There is usually something cheap and small that you can break apart and steal the electronics from.

Here is a pretty good kit which does not require any electronics skill or soldering to use. However, the circuit board and battery power (9V) is a little to big to use on your Kans. I used one for a Monolith to good effect.
If you want nonpulsing lights, you do not need a kit. Just some LEDS, a small batter, a switch and some wire. Goldmine Electronics is pretty good for this.

I have quite a bit of experience putting electronic special effects in WH: 40K models.
See: http://www.rgmw.org/search/label/satak
and : http://www.starshipmodeler.com/rv/jw_crusader.htm
I have also done Landraiders and several other types, with rotating radars, working headlights, etc.
Let me know what you want and I will try to help.
