The title says it all. Should I start a Necron army now or wait for the new codex?

Well, in my opinion, start Necrons now, so when the new codex comes out you'll be able to say, "Yeah all of you are just starting because there's a new codex, I'm a veteren."

I doubt the models will change horribly, so yeah,start now. The rules will change, but I doubt the warriors or C'tan will be unusable.

If you wanna play crons to have fun and you like the army and will use them in casual games pick them up now.

But if you wanna use them to kick butt at tournys Id wait.


Ether way its going to be awhile before the crons get a new codex.

Since if the rumors are true. DE is the next dex in late fall so we prolly wont see another codex after that until the start of the new year. Plus if GW sticks to there pattern the dex after DE will be a sm dex so with that. Wont be spring till another xenos book comes out.

While I would love to be able to kick butt at tournaments I'm not nearly good enough. I just wanted to pick up the army for casual play.

Just start now, that way you'll have a much greater appreciation (or hatred) for the changes made in the new codex, whatever they may be.

Besides, despite what anyone says, necrons are fun to play as against your friends and such because if done well they can be a very frustrating force against them.

Actually, I doubt the models will change that much. I doubt they will be redoing the entire line, a la Dark Eldar. So, if that's holding you back, I wouldn't worry. But given that it's not competitive right now and will likely change drastically, I'd wait.

I think waiting for the new codex is the best option. I am doing the same with Dark Eldar.

The reason that its the best option is that the more people do this, the more motivation GW has to be on the ball with their rules updates. Since rules updates are amongst GWs weakest points (along with insane price inflation), giving them a financial incentive to improve this aspect of 40k is a good way to use your dollars to vote.

I would start slowly now. Most models are very good including the warriors. Keep in mind that the army is not the most competitive ATM, but will probably get a new Codex next year.
