Ive recently been becoming more and more frustrated with Games Workshop events... specifically the Warhammer Fantasy North American Tournament... Yes... the tourny that ended over two months ago and is still missing results!
The prizes for store winners include a free 8th edition book. So when theres a very good chance that someone (being myself) has a chance of winning their local store, and the results are still not up in over two months... Its rather frustrating and quite ridiculous. Especially after the store manager has told me he got emailed comfirmation saying the results for our store had been recieved!
Odviously, I dont want to buy 8th edition if I can get one free... But now Im forced too as I apparently can't depend on GW to hold their events. Ive emailed and called Customer Service only to find that the person running the event is currently out of town.
I think the most annoying part is however, that I participated in a PP league event a month or two ago, that iirc was nationwide as well... 2 weeks after the event ended, there were full results!

So have any of you ever experienced this from GW events? Or any other company events, even your FLGS? Im just curious as to if GW is the only company that runs their events this poorly...

Oooh! Oooh! I know this joke.

You type in "GW event successes" into Google and hit 'I'm Feeling Lucky, Punk!', and it comes back with "Did you mean GW event failures?".

Right?

Wait... did Google just call me a punk?

Our local scene is top notch. The players know thier stuff, the games are smooth, the fee's reasonable.

If GW doesn't come through with thier end, Our people at out FLGS handle the mess for the customers/ winners, and we do not really see the issues.

As for the store, I know for a fact that they are getting the shaft from GW's idea of "Support."

Thats probibly the reason why we have been doing more local things then waiting for "home office" and the check in the mail.

I feel your pain, though. You shouldn't have had to wait for a prize when the event was a month or more past.

One thing I can give you for advice?

Malifaux is a really cool game and it has an up and coming following.

Take a GW break and go try something else. They don't want your money anymore.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

Call up Customer Service, tell them you are upset, that you don't know if you are getting a free book or not.....and that you don't want to buy a new book if you are getting one for free. Ask them if you buy the book, and you did qualify for a prize, if you could get something comparable.

In GW's defense, on this issue, they just moved everything from Baltimore to Memphis. Many employees are still moving, there are numerous other issues going on.

GW has always been proud of their Customer Service....

As to GW events......You have to realize they are really gamers working at the company, with limited manpower and time. Most of the events are done on a secondary basis to their main job. So don't blame the people, blame the system.

.Only a fool believes there is such a thing as price gouging. Things have value determined by the creator or merchant. If you don't agree with that value, you are free not to purchase.

Meh, seems to me like it was a local store screw up.

'Ard Boyz is run pretty well given what it is though, you're always going to have some management problems. Unavoidable if TO's want to give their friends easy wins, or what not.

I was joking, of course.

@Syphonius: Fine by me, I don't think I'd like to speak to you if that's how you'll react.

Well, I put it in the OP (at least I think I did!) that I called up customer service, and while I only mentioned that they said the guy running it was out of town... it was actually a lengthy conversation in which I explained how ridiculous and unfair it seemed, making points, etc etc.

I ended up preordering the book last week and alas, a day before the midnight release and there are still 15 missing results (one of which is for my store). if and when they post the results and if I happen to win, I think Im going to do as you suggested and call them up again seeing if I could get an = prize... of coarse if nothing else works out, I can always just return the book I bought in the first place.

Needless to say Im still pretty shocked and fairly upset with GW events as a whole. 2 and a half months, telling people they might get a free $80 book, and of coarse the book is going on release in 2 days... Infact Im quite curios as to if they even shipped off the book to the people from the stores who actually got their results.

Meh. Attend one Historicon, Fall In, or Cold Wars event, and you'll never waste time on a Games Day again. You seriously cannot wrap your mind around the awesomeness of those events. Thousands of gamers actually gaming, almost 24 hours a day, with classes on everything imaginable from beginners painting, scenery jobs, how to weather models, force augmentation, historical information, etc etc. GW needs to attend Historicon just once, to get some protips on how to run a convention...
