Tough Tyrant Guard

So a couple weeks ago, I ordered the three giant omnibuses of Gaunt's Ghosts and I just finished reading them last night. I'm wondering if there's a particular Ghost novel that the Dakka community considers a favourite (and why).

Necropolis. It's just so immense. I mean obviously it was a close call because they're all great books but it has always stood out to me as the best.

+1 for Necropolis.
Very gritty and down to earth, even in the face of immense struggle overhead. That and it also looked at life outside the regiment, and how citizens fared during the dark times.

Necropolis may be the best black library book ever written if you ask me. It culimates that particular timeline very well. It brings new faces into a storyline quite easily and keeps the current cast well inmeshed in the story.
Not to mention, it does a nice job fleshing out other imperial guard regiments.

Really liked Traitor General, Brostin steps it up a gear and it also gave you a look at things from the enemy point of view. Sabbat Martyr also quality.
Fine, fine series.

Traitor general was great to me. Behind enemy lines is where the Ghosts excel.
The book were Dalin has his first real battle is the one I have reread the most though.. Ironically I can't remember its name. I especially liked Saroo's characterization.. haha.

I agree with KamikazeCanuck here.
Kolea has the opportunity to be re-united with his children but doesn't take it even after his son actually asks him about his biological father.
It even says the regiment is practically family so having 2 dads would be weird.
Kolea may be awesome but he really needs to man up and accept the whole fatherhood thing even if it is too late.

Bit late now isn't it? I mean, you've just found out that your adopted father bit the dust, and now Kolea steps out and says:
"S'okay, bru. I is your father."
He's not the fathering kind, now is he?

Necropolis all the way! Necropolis did sooooo much that its the best gaunts ghost book out there. The first two books sets up the character but you really didn't get to know the characters on a personal level until Necropolis plus its probably the best book to depic what a war is like in 40k. Wasn't it like hundreds of billions of people that dead plus less then 5000 ghosts that survived at the end of the two month siege on 1 hivecity? Now thats a war!

What point? He made a good decision. How fethed up would your kids be growing up with two fathers? (long after they've accepted the fact that one has died)

Look at my name, guess who my favorite character is. guess which novel is my least favorite
As well I also have to go for necropolis, it was so all inclusive, everything that can happen in street warfare happened in that novel.

Cuu only appears in Honour Guard I think. Still, he's a right bastard, killing that chick and all. And Bragg. And Corbec. You know what? him. He's pretty much the only person that kills off cool characters.
