I've seen a lot of nice conversions done for guardsmen. The real benefit is that they're cheap, and they're a REALLY easy way to get your guardsmen to have different heads.
That said, I wouldn't use them personally. The heads always look too small (especially in the vertical), and I don't personally think they fit onto guard torsos as well as most other people do. Plus, they're metal so you can't do much after-market conversion work to them.
The end effect isn't perfect, but it's fast and easy, which is why they're relatively popular.

I think the heads and models alike are very cool
A squad of system troopers and a sprue of kolony head and you have some very good looking helghast troopers

I like them.
I find working with metal to be quite easy with the right tools and skills.
They are an easy way to get different heads onto your models. They are cheap and effective - yet well made at the same time.
Oh and their resin stuff is also cool. Their vehicles have a metallic powder mixed into the resin to give it some extra strength and they do even have a slight metallic sheen.

I thik they work really well, but then I'm actually using them
The scale is a bit different to the GW heads, but once you've got paint on them I don't think it shows that much. Ailaros is correct that its harder to do further things with them, but the quality is always good. I've gone through about 50 of them so far and have yet to find a dud or a severe mould line.

Great customer service, but I prefer West Winds seperate heads system as the detail is better IMO.
Also MaxMini does some great stuff.

Everybody and their cousin uses Kolony militia heads on their IG. They're cool, but really overdone. Some of the other heads they've got are pretty cool and you don't see them as often though.

They're not bad. I tend to think they're a touch on the small side too - like 26mm instead of 28mm or something.

Yeah but GW can't stay in scale within it's own figure ranges.
Have you seen Pask's muffin hands? They are certainly not in scale to the rest of him...and i like how the same weapon (bolt pistols for example) have varying dimensions from fig to fig...
In fact the GW model ranges are full of scale discrepancies...
The Pig iron stuff is a great source of alt heads at affordable prices and the scale is hardly noticeable imho. Good on them.
As for them being overdone? who cares? Besides, the Imperium tends to mass produce equipment, so it is fitting...

Pig iron heads actually look more in scale with the rest of a guardsman's body then the normal GW heads. Ph34r (a member here and a good friend of mine) has a whole army of IG troopers with pig iron heads:
They look really good and are a cheap and easy way of adding a bit more character to your IG infantry

I looked at the system trooper heads, but I think they are a bit too flat lookingfor my liking. The Heavy Infantry heads have nicer proportions, in my opinion.
