What's on the label is in the can.

For me, it'd probably be Mephiston gamewise. But other than that, I don't like what GW have done with him.. they should have made him less powerful IMO. Ah well, that's basically the future of 40k for you.. so don't worry necron players, I'm sure you'll have your own lil' Mephiston in good time.

Vulkan I like in every way.

Anyway, discuss.

...tanks from the 23rd and 48th batallion were flanked by tanks from the enemies' 56th batallion. It was then that General Smedfordshire revealed his secret weapon: a slightly larger tank.

Mesopotamia. The Kingdom Where we Secretly Reign.

I really have to go with Ghazkhull. He is a beast all by himself, not to mention the automatic 6" Waagh! and and army wide fearless effect. Oh how I hate him.

Close second would probably be Vulkan, because twin-linked Melta is good.

This. Don't forget the Thunderhammers, too.

All of the "best" characters, IMO, are the ones with special moves and army bonuses attached: Vulkan, Ghazghkull (for the Waaagh and fearless), Snikrot (ambush), Mad Dok (cheap, army-wide invulnerable saves), etc. Then come the ones that let you take unique armies, such as Belial, Logan Grimnar, etc. In next-to-last place are the ones that are just CC deathgods, i.e., Mephiston, Abaddon, etc. Then, there's always a bottom tier of over-priced, underwhelming, bland, pointless or otherwise ineffective characters, the Space Pope, Ahriman, etc.

Vect and his pimp mobile...nuff said.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

I mostly agree with skarboy, although I feel like I should plug Eldrad as a top tier guy.

In terms of affecting how armies play, no SC can touch Vulkan.

For the points, I'd have to say Iron Hand Straken. For 95 points, you can't beat him. He has a STR6 and a T4, a power weapon and a 3+/5+I save. His only weakness that I can see is the initiative of 3.

Eldrad, Straken, Ghazghull, and Vulkan. Easily my top ones.

I don't feel like Mephiston is that good, maybe that's because I haven't seen a good one.

All the above special chars are amazing. Eldrad for pretty much the best psycher in the game, Straken for his buffs, Vulkan for the same, and Ghazghull for his 6" WAAAAGH! and insane CC ability.

Comissar Yarrick. Hes fun to play with, especially his inspirational hero trait (30 Guradsmen re-rolling failed to hit roles in cc is always fun). Not to mention he has a fricken laser eye! I havent had a chance to put him up against Ghazghull yet though.

Arguably, the white dwarf rules for Canoness Praxedes could be seen as ridiculously overpowered nowadays... and one can hardly say they're out of date, considering they're newer than the codex they were released for, heh.

Back when I played, I did a 3k fun fantasy game with one massive chaos knight unit + Archaon vs a full high elf army.

On turn one, my Archaon miscast and killed his entire unit of chaos knights and his steed, leaving him the only chaos model on the table.

He won, so he would have to be my Fav Funniest game ever.
