Hey guys, this is my first ever thread so be nice

I found this picture on the internet of the Blood Angels Primarch, Sanguinius, and although it doesn't match any of the other pictures or stories I really loved it! It is completely unique and I prefer the armour to that of the other designs, so I had to make him I have also started collecting blood angels because i got bored of ultramarines seeming as there aren't any special rules and there isn't any background to them either.

I never really thought of putting this on a thread so haven't done any WIP shots, sorry.

I have taken advice from various true scale tutorials to make his legs and body. I extended the legs by cutting into both the upper and lower parts and extending them, and put a normal torso ontop and covered it with modelling putty. The wings were made from 3 sheets of plasticard stuck together then covered with putty and shaped.

With the epic new death company!

I still need to finish the arms and the head for him, which I am working on now, what do you guys think? C&Cs welcome!

Thanks for reading!

Inside your mind, corrupting the pathways

Hi there, I would love to see your conversion work, but unfortunately my work filters block out whatever image host you are using.

Dakka has a built in gallery which you can upload your wargaming images so that people stuck behind filters can see what it is you are doing. People can then also rate your work too

Anyway, I look forward to seeing what you have done when I get home - the concept sketch looks pretty cool anyway

.......... woah. Those wings are certainly big! And well detailed :-)
Certainly looks like you've got some talent with sculpting, however, just a suggestion, but if
you struggle with the helmet/head, have you thought of using a Chaos Warrior helmet from
Warhammer? Thats what the picture reminds me of most.
Again - brilliant work so far, can't wait to see it develop further and eventually painted.

I was dubious when I saw the initial picture you were basing this on, couldn't see how it was going to work...

I was wrong. Very. That's pretty damn impressive so far and the likeness, even in this very early stage, is pretty incredible.

The only thing I would say is that the head on your model seems to be a tiny bit too small for the rest of him, don't really know why I'm getting that impression, but it could just be without the smaller wings on and shoulder pads for reference it sticks out more.

All that remains is to say keep up the good work, looks like you've got more than enough talent to do this justice and I'll be looking forward to the updates.

If brute force isn't the answer, it's only because you aren't using enough of it.

It looks pretty damn impressive, better then the Ronin model for him anywho. I would say tho, it seems like he would be very useful for providing "obscuring" for your 'baby-hawk" flyers!

Other then that, he looks great! Very accurate to the picture and your Plasicard work is incredible! Might I suggest going for termie shoulder pads (to get the broadness you seem to need based on the painting, normal powerarmor pads don't look like they would work too well) and simply green-stuffed cloak.

Now, as far as the weapons and the decorations.... good luck with that!

Looking forward to the finsihed product!

It is certainly cinematic and impressive, but I still can't help but feel that the wings are a bit too big.

Still, I have the feeling that you'll pull it off with style!

Those plasticard wings are mind bottling.

I'd love to see your talents for wings used to recreate a mortarion as the "angel of death" with corroded/decaying wings and a robed/hooded dark angels-style look.

Of course you need wings of that size to lift a heavy guy with all that armor like that.

That picture is the best picture of Sanguinius I've ever seen. Even better - No Flesh! This actually makes me like him now. And this is one of the best models I've ever seen too!

But the shoulderpads in the picture remind me of that comic with the shoulder pads on the space marine that were like 15 times his size.

Boggling is for sissies, Blades of Glory taught me that:

Chazz: Mind-bottling, isn't it?
Jimmy: Did you just say mind-bottling?
Chazz: Yeah, mind-bottling. You know, when things are so crazy it gets your thoughts all trapped, like in a bottle?

I like to nit-pick, this is no way meant to be douchebaggery.

1.) The anatomy of your wing is wrong, in your inspirational photo the thickest part of the wing is the leading edge (as is mostly true with wings in real life). In your sculpt, the wing looks nearly uniform in thickness all the way down to the primary and secondary feathers. Also, this leading edge should look almost furry, the shortest feathers on a wing are along the leading edge. These feathers contain more of the soft afterfeather than other parts of the wing.

2.) The scale of your model's wings to it's body is nearly 60% larger than the photo. This in and of itself is not necessarily bad as there is no reason your model couldn't have larger wings, just inaccurate to the original art.

3.) The scale of pretty much everything on your model is off considerably. To more accurately represent your model to the art try measuring lengths in units of "heads." The art work shows a character that toes to wingtips is ~29 times larger than the height of its head, toes to top of head is ~11 times the height of its head, and toes to waistline is ~7 times the height of its head. Your model is ~32, ~10, and ~5 for those same numbers. What this means is the art shows longer legs, a shorter torso though a taller body overall, and shorter wings. The bulk of the model, and width of it's body parts could benefit from this same exercise as well. Again, I take it you haven't signed a death pact to exactly create your chosen inspiration down to the smallest detail so this probably doesn't matter to you, I just notice things like this.

4.) The stylized older armor tends to use completely different greaves, boots, shoulder pads, and fauld/tasset type plates above the thighs than what is commonly found in either power or terminator armor. I'm guessing your intent is to sculpt larger knee pads, faulds, and boots, as well as drop the back pack down lower to match your artwork?

5.) My own personal curiosity here; what are you planning to use to represent the fabrics? long flowy purity seals are a pain to sculpt from GS and they aren't strong enough to support themselves hanging out in the air like that. I've seen the foil from wine bottles used to good effect, but haven't tried it personally.

I feel bad about nit-picking on such a great model, but it must be perfect in the end. OK, yes the wings are a bit big, but depending on how well detailed his body is, that might not matter.

So, I love the model a lot. MAybe you should try a BT head with DA wings on the side.
