Hah yeah I used to have a horrible issue with that as well. Ended up with like 6 half done armies.

Make a painting blog
it really helps, I have two squads of gaurdsmen sitting in a tub and i'm only getting round ro doing them since i've mentioned it in mine, If people explect results then you'll work to achive them
edit: if you have 45 to do then do them in blocks of ten
do ten then do some thing else then do another ten

I'm having the same problem. 10 Possessed CSMs are base-coated and waiting on the table for real paint. And 20 regular CSMs and a Rhino are still waiting on their sprues. And yet, I am here.

Did you make one here or a real blog somewhere? Because since I don't have any readers, I don't feel accountable at all with mine.

There.
I need to paint roughly 1,500 points of eldar in... about three weeks.
Not fun, luckily though, no working, no gaming, nothing. Just droningly painting my miniatures. I was going to start a P&M thread... but my digital camera lost its charger.
Wish me luck!
Good luck to your painting too, I hate having to paint infantry sized models, space marines are ok, but guard/eldar/tau? Blecht.

I painted a green wave ork army... you can paint 45 measley more units!
Sit down, get some music going (HUGE library on shuffle and loop) and grab a 2 liter of whatever keeps your butt awake. I prefer green tea, just because if its-I'M RAMBLING!

This is completely contrary to what you're asking for, but I personally prefer to take it slow with the painting. I don't want to burn myself out by setting goals that force me to paint even if I don't want to.
I paint when I'm in the mood to paint. When I'm not in the mood, I do something else.
Of course, this is probably why I have 1500 points of Tau, 1000 points of Daemons, and 1000 points of Necrons setting on a table at home, half of them primed, half of them unprimed, NONE of them painted. 
And it took me a solid six months (nearly) to paint 3400 points of Space Marines and the 500 points of Tau I do have painted.
