Hello all, I know inventing background in terms of existing forgeworlds having tech not initially stated is heresy, however after seeing a lot of the works currently out and done which appear to be replica's of the old epic knights, I have decided to undertake it to develop a Lucius style pattern knight utilizing the more modern chassis designs,

Currently The torso is complete along with the first of 3 heads available, the right shoulder and preliminary arm strut affixed, with the first weapon variant - a Plasma blast cannon

I have photo taken but no software currently to remove them from my phone so will find a way soon! but for now I want to know, along side the plasma blast cannon, ClsC weapon, what other weapon variants would people like to see or would want on a knight.

Note this kit is 100% scratch built

Basically to scale the interest and worth of creating such an item, I would like to see how many people would be interested in an affordable kit from a choice of heads, weapons, multiple choices, custom forgeworld / or knight order iconography sculpted & cast and finally sold as a painted kit.

Please be kind with your replies

Regards

Khar

The above are the earliest photo's I currently have, the "hips" effectively just below the torso have changed to a much smaller ball joint & fitting. As you can see a majority of the primary joints (neck, shoulders and waist, are ball jointed as are the pistons that will hold the position of the weapons in place, currently it is a single point piston however i am changing that to a double point smaller pair of pistons

I've already purchased one from someone here on the forums that sells theirs as a resin kit; I'd probably do the same here, especially if it was released with a weapon variety as a full kit, instead of just one set.

There’s allot of interest in knight titans out there. Especially if you can keep the kit affordable. Looking good so far!

Finland... the country next to Sweden? No! That's Norway! Finland is to the east! No! That's Russia!

Cool!
put it on a real sized horse and people will believe its a real knight.
(its a compliment might not sound like it though)

Sweet Jesus, Nurgle and Slaanesh in the same box!?
No, just Nurgle and Slaanesh, Jesus will be sold seperately in a blister.

This kit WILL have a choice of 6 weapon variants, 3 heads and 2 iconography shielding on left torso PRIOR to sale, obviously a choice of two weapons, one head and one shield will be made by customer on purchase with option to purchase additional systems.

I want to make this an affordable kit, In my minds eye I see it being about £100 pounds, although do not quote me on that as it depends on the cost of materials (resin) per kit and casts per mould.

The kit will also have option for custom sculpting for House insignia and painted as two options for additional fee.

Also note that i estimate the height of the titan to be 6 1/2 inches to 7 1/2 inches (depends on how i position the pelvis in creation.

Update: Groin complete, Opposed to the almost non existant groin area from past Knights, I have taken the design from the warhound and made something a little more substantial, effectively based on this,

Have also started work on the Chain-blade Arm mount although having done so i am having doubts about the ball and socket set-up I am using on the arms

Actual Photo's to come later in the week,

Update on groin and thigh-shin design:, foot and heel are in final construction although i am unsure on the thigh and shin, there is a pistol housing on the back of the shin which will connect to the piston main system housed inside the underside of the thigh's

That thing is SICK.. All that plasticard!!! If I were you, I'd look into roto-casting this bad boy when you go the resin route to avoid sinking a ton of material cost into void space. Plaster is a pretty cheap alternative to filling a model to weigh it down.

well i have roughly 60 emails already and ive only got this on this site and advertised in person at gaming boutique's so i need a method in which i can cast this kit at roughly 5 a day even if that means i need 2/3 sets of moulds. I am new to casting so i need to do research or find a partnership. I have alot of money sunk into back of house for a webstore and accounting as this is one of 7 ranges i have on paper, the next is an entire steam man army and an eldar knight variant, following that, starcraft inspired space marine replacements. then some secret projects following (busts)

What, is roto-casting?

A way of casting in which you continually spin the resin within a mold until it's cured. You fill the mold with about half of the resin you would if you were to cast it full, then start spinning it on a machine like the one linked below.

The end result is somewhat like a chocolate bunny you buy around Easter where, on the outside, it looks normal, then you bite into it and find out it's just a thin shell. You (the caster) save all the money on resin that would be on the inside, and because it's hollow, the buyer has more options for running wires for leds and stuff through the model.

One of the only drawbacks is that the model ends up weighing less than one would expect. You can fix that pretty easily by drilling a hole in the model and filling it with something cheap, like plaster.

http://www.instructables.com/id/Make-A-Rotational-Casting-Machine--For-Under-150/

edit - If you're thinking of doing a whole lot of models, I think the investment in building your own machine would pay for itself quickly!

hmm, wouldnt that prove dire if knocked over? as in shatter completely like an egg?

my other problem is that if i need to make lets say 20 in a week that would take multiple machines,

It isn't so thin that it would shatter, just not completely solid. Depending on the shape of the model the resin will be thicker in certain areas - see the pic of the rhinoceros on the instructable - but if thinness proves to be an issue you could always put more resin in, you just won't be saving as much per casting in materials. Plus, if you fill it with plaster it would add support as well.

If you plan on running multiple molds anyway, you could do some sort of mold multiplication where you mold and cast the original, then mold the original and the 1st copy... then you'd have molds for 3 at a time, etc. Slow to start up, but you'd hit a groove soon enough. Plus, since you just strap the molds onto the rotation machine there's nothing saying that you couldn't put multiple molds on there at once, as far as I know.

Depending on the volume you might be better off out-sourcing, I just thought I'd share an alternative that would keep your money (and profits) in house! Best of luck.

no, it really is an interesting idea definately, thats something i could easily construct too, time very soon will tell, as soon as the knights finished

Always good to see progress on this kit!

Knight Titans* are an awesome part of the background, and they are, to date, woefully underused by GW!

Updated foot, the forward toe and attached piston are seperate with a hinge joint inside, the heel will be completely seperate, with a seperate piston length and hinge joint that will slot into the heel itself.

How does the disposition of weight look on the leg itself ? note that piston lengths will be supplied from the housing into the underside of the thigh.

GIT! *pokes tongue out* but yea, I want to achieve something that doesn't look TOO dated, we have seen dated knights, and to be fairly honest, sometimes refreshing to see modernised variants of tanks, troopers and in this case knight!

Im giving thought to adding a second armour plate around the front of the foot, not LARGE but similar to the thigh you can see, and bolted on, there are alot of areas all over that will get filled in & neatened up

I will be adding Welding between plating aswell, due to the fact that it makes no sense to have one big plate of metal with some armour plates bolted on top, so expect alot of fine detail added once the leg is fully shaped and both arms done (note I intend to complete the base legs & body + primary head completed entirely) although this product will not go into cast until all weapon and head variants are ready to go along with it.

Public want choice so choice you will have!

@alarmingrick Yes there will be a choice of 3 heads, and 6 weapons, custom sculpting house insignia as an additional and commission painted as another, this will be mass producted and under business name Sundered Studios which is due to be launched very soon, as of now i will take requests prior to casting with no exact date as to the cast as i want to experiment and find the best mix of resin for this work.

you will be able to buy them in knight units! and will always have them ready to ship.

@sonforuss definately will contact both members you mention there, i am in contact with a resin retailer and is willing to advice and assist with the best method for casting in the long term and what grade of resin to use. I will have to resort to the more home brew moulding units for now although i WILL be investing in small factory units in the future and will be buying a styrene laser cutting system soon to speed up the production of these as currently this was just do it as it comes into my head project.

I would like to know from all

What 6 weapon systems would you MOST like to have available when purchasing such a model?

OK, made my first mould today, of the leg as it is complete, and only using one master, boy that was a fun job... mould came out pefect, resin did too it seems, decided to add a little mig pigment to give it colour and mixed for two minutes then poured into the mould, about 2 mins later, the metal curry storage tub i had decided to start smoking! SMOKING! lesson learned, do not mix in metal container!

Fingers crossed,

Anyway, weapon loadout available will be!...

Sun cannon (useable as nova cannon or melta substitute)
Howitzer (standard single large blast long range cannon)
Particle blaster (useable as plasma blaster/cannon)
Chain blade armament (name says it all)
Crushing gauntlet (again, you know it)
ATgatling & inbuilt lannce (useable as punisher i guess)

and as a 7th just for fun, a shield! which i figure can count as a void point if equipped, all weapons except for the fist can be mounted either left or right, so yay for choice!

So, today I have tried to cast 4 shin's the first two were absoloute fail! however the second two came out relatively well, granted its my first time teaching myself how to cast and i must admit i have an admiration for people like trooper who have this to a T, definitely makes me think seriously about partnership!

however for the time being i have to have a complete kit cast in resin to put together and paint for showcase!

The last two shins have required some filling in with GS, which isn't what i want for end products however for now it will do.

Currently I am now moulding the feet (front and back) so that i can put the beasty together in a basic pose with bluetack to give me a correct idea of weight distribution and where the pivot correction pistons need to be.

model stands just over 7" tall, about 1/2mm above with torso (being the highest point)

Just made and cast the heel of the foot, you can see how it looks here, it has an angled pivot point in the heel itself so it can raise and be angled at any point allowed IE hang there or rest on a higher object OR if leg is forward and weight on the heel it can slide back further than on a standing position, using a longer rod
