I've recently become interested in starting a Blood Bowl team due to the modeling possibilities, -but that is another thread, in another topic.

What I have come to Dakka to ask this time to ask is what are some of the best configurations, because I'm generally not a great tactician, and I havn't even managed to read the full rulebook.

The tournament build i usually see is

4 Blitzers, 4 Black Orcs, 2 Linemen, and goblin or thrower.

Most likely, you want 4 Blitzer models, 4 Black Orcs, a guy you can use as a thrower, and about 5-6 line Orcs. Maybe a goblin.

Use the Thrower to pick up and hand off to a blitzer. Build a cage, and grind down the field. Score with 1-2 turns left in the half.
Along the way, you want to kill as many of the other team as possible.

I would get more specific, but you said you haven't read the book yet.

Sorry, but can you explain what making a cage means? Do you mean like protecting the ball carriers tackleznes with blockers,

I have read most of he basic rules, but I got bored reading through the league rules.
I would rather have the second list you talked about, with a goblin though, instead of a line orc. Later in the league , if I'm successful, I ant to get a troll, simply because it's very orcy to though goblin across the pitch.

A cage tactic is where you receive the ball from kick off and then immediately surround the ball carrier in the 8 adjacent squares so that he can't be directly blocked by the opposing team:

x o x

Where o is the ball carrier.

The cage can then slowly trundle up the field kind of like a rolling roadblock. It can work pretty effectively; I used to use it with success with my Orc team and Dwarves can also do it well.

Bear in mind, however, that it only takes 1 bad block or blitz to scupper the plan so be prepared to think on your feet.

The simplest cage is like the 5 on a dice side, with the middle point being the ball carrier.

For orcs you can build very solid teams which come down to preference, do you want the 4 Black orcs with their added str but low movement and agility, or a more running team with lineorcs and a goblin instead.

Trolls are usually bought as a late rinvestment due to their random nature.

Also if you're playing in a league you can be very crafty.
Buy the following, 4 Black orcs, 4 Blitzers, 3 Goblins and 4 Rerolls.

First game focus scoring with the blitzers and black orcs, the goblins just get in the way of opponent or assit in blocks. after game 1 fire the goblins. You now get lineorcs as journeymen so your small runts which cost you 40k now are replaced with free would ahve cost 50k linefodder orcs who are just as good as if you'd bought them, but have loner... but since they'll be on the line soaking hits you don't really use them and can breath easy when they take hits for the big guys... and the reason for doing this? you have got 4 rerolls before the league begins and they become doube price.. win/win

I want to have a more fast moving team, using blitzers linemen and a gobbo or two, I would have a couple of blockers tohold the line- anyone else use this kind of team, how is it used?
