Hello folks,
The reason for this blog is simple - I've just started an Eldar army, and for the first time in my 40k career I am DETERMINED to field a WYSIWYG and fully-painted army! As implied, I've a history of fielding half-painted armies with a heavy reliance on the 'Substitution Rule'; but since investing in some of that smashing Citadel terrain, and going green from envy after seeing my good-natured arch-nemesis field a fully painted IG army, I am now enlightened to the benefit and pride from having a fully painted army on the table, and damnit, this time I'm going to see it through!

While hosting this blog, I'm going to be setting myself challenges to meet various painting deadlines, and will be updating this thread with my progress. I'm hoping both the prospect of shame from publically failing a challenge I set myself, and hopefully any kind words of encouragement, will be the just the fuel I need!

So, deciding straight off the bat I've decided to be difficult and create my own custom Craftworld, T'Harros.

CHALLENGE 1 - FIELD A FULLY-PAINTED 500pt ARMY IN TIME FOR '40K SUMMER SHOWDOWN': In Progress

Automatically Appended Next Post:
CHALLENGE 1 - FIELD A FULLY-PAINTED 500pt ARMY IN TIME FOR '40K SUMMER SHOWDOWN': In Progress (Updated 01 August)
The first challenge I've set myself is, on hindsight, mind-wateringly optimistic. First, a prelude: This challenge was set and announced at around the second week of June. The game that would be played requires 500pt armies, and will take place on the 28th August, so I announced to all that I would have an all-painted Eldar army ready in time! This was greeted with much scoffing.

My armylist (Model Wise) is so far as follows:
1 Farseer - Needs re-painting
10 Dire Avengers - Partly Assembled
10 Guardians - Painted (Need to find a Heavy Weapons Platform!)
1 Wraithlord - Unassembled

So you're joining me on this adventure rather early on, where I've just finished painted the Guardians. I've decided to go for a colour scheme of primarily Purple and White, with generous amounts of gold to emphasise their opulance/aloofness:

And now the buggar. I first brought these Guardians waay back, and didn't even get so far as cutting them out of the spru. It now transpires these days that the Heavy Weapons Platform comes with the plastic box set, and can't be brought individually! Fortunately I also had purchased the Dire Avenger box at this point, so was able to kit-bash the Observer and Weapons Operator:

Hopefully finding a Heavy Weapon isn't going to be too much of a drama!

Some good painting here, like how the scheme and bases compliment each other.
On the support weapon front you could try mashing left over parts from the wraithlord or google warhammer bits.
there are numerous websites selling specific parts.
looking forward to seeing the rest.

You've got some good looking models there with a nice crisp colour scheme. I'll be looking forward to see how this army progresses.

Thanks for the positive responses guys, appreciated!

@Meriadoc - that's a very good point; I'll have a Scatter Laser from the Wraithlord, so all I need to do is put together a platform...

@CrashUSAR - thanks for the suggestion; a red-shirt suggested this as a last ditch solution; but for that price I may as well buy another Guardian squad!

Your avatar has a ginormous head.
Other than that I like the scheme.

Nice to see someone do something other than blue, like the scheme, and the faces on the guardian came out pretty sharp

Well this has been a while since I updated!

@poipo32 and ddigre01: Thanks for the positive responses! But poipo32, the big head stays :/

Unfortunately I failed the challenge, though fortunately I didn't completely bomb out - since I also managed to get my Dire Avengers painted!
I tried to give them a slightly more opulant look than usual, and added Purple into the Head Dress as a nod to the primary Craftworld colours.

A full squad of 10, in action poses.

...and here's my dual-Shurikan weilding Exarch. It's strange, I don't often see people with their Exarches firing both weapons in the same direction...

I am guilty of this with my DA Exarch, but I was going for the John Woo/action flick pose of firing two opposite directions.

And without further ado, here is my finished Wraithlord!

I wasn't too happy with the poses that I were able to get him in, so some cutting, pinning and greenstuff later, I've hopefully got him in a more dynamic pose. I've decked him in the craftworld colours, so he essentially looks like a 'super' Guardian - complete with matching Spirit Stone.

(Sorry, not having much luck shrinking this forum image!)
