Dentist tomorrow morning. Now I am 34 and I've been pretty lucky with dental treatment so far in my life. I've had a couple of teeth extracted when I was 11 and I had a filling when I was 26. Other than that, it's always been a check up with a quick polish.

But about that filling...

Turned up expecting my normal polish, but dentist spotted a tooth that could do with a bit of a "top up", it wouldn't take very long, so best to do it there and then. Pain relief? No, no, no. Injections are just as bad the drilling, if not worse. Let's just dive in shall we? Now to be fair, he was right that it was only five seconds of sharp pain, followed by five seconds of dull pain, but they were the most excruciating 10 seconds of pain I've ever experienced in my life.

So despite the fact that every visit since has just been a check up and polish, I've dreaded them all. Perhaps even more so this year, because I've developed a unquenchable coke habit (the drink, not the class A drug) which internet horror stories assure me will result disolve my teeth faster than an ice cube in a volcano.

Any dentist horror stories out there or is it all giggles when you go?

I choose option 3. I don't like Doctors, Dentists, barbers etc. Nothing wrong with them. I just don't like being handled by other people.

I don't really mind the dentist. The pain isn't really a problem, although the injections are probably the worst part of the experience.

I had to get quite a few teeth removed, wisdom teeth and some other for braces and the like. Lots of injecting, cutting, numbing and bleeding. Weirdly enough I would do it again. Trying to talk and eat afterwords was a good laugh, so the dentist gets a thumbs up from me.

The best part was when the anesthetic didn't numb to the roots on the wisdom teeth, and they all needed to be man handled out. Extreme force and a strange pain.... oooooooh yeah...

I don't "fear" the dentist, but I do dislike people putting their hands in my face,so ...that makes visits to the dentist..uncomfortable.

A few months ago I had a tooth that was nearly hollow inside removed. The root was infected and the tooth itself was broken which meant that the inside was fairly exposed. It was like being electrocuted if something accidentaly touched it. Not pleasant.

Anyway, when I went to have it removed, I had a few injections but it turned out that my dentist wasn't able to suffiently numb my mouth because of the infection. She basically had to pull the tooth out of my head with hardly any anaesthetic. Not my best day.

Diligently behind a rifle...

I am incredibly lucky then. No cavities, no fillings and I got knocked out for all 4 of my wisdom teeth. Worse thing about that was the injections prior to me being knocked out. Woke up 30 mins later with a mouth full of guaze and a couple of stitches.

I've never understood people with broken, messed up teeth, just letting them sit there and hurt and be messed up.

Ok, I want details.

What tooth is this? How is it broken? How did it get that way? What is "clean it out?"

Why not get it fixed by somebody who knows about teeth, for example a dentist, or veteranarian?

Imagine that you were playing with lawn darts, and one of them came down and embedded itself in your skull. How many weeks would you wait before going to a a doctor?

I won't go out of my way to go to a dentist unless it's for the annual (biannual?) checkup but I live through it.

Plus one of the assistants is a cute Asian so it's not ALL bad, you see.

Bottom right molar.

I don't know the technical term but basically there's a cavity made up of most of the back half of it. Imagine, if you will, a molar. Now, imagine that the top of half of it is gone, exposing the inside, and it looks as though there's a fair bit missing from in it. That's what it looks like.

I don't know what happened to it, I just woke up one day with bits of tooth floating around in my mouth.

If I eat anything solid, stuff tends to get caught in the hole, and it's both painful and time-consuming to get it out, usually with toothpicks or a toothbrush.

I don't really have a good answer to this beyond "it doesn't bother me except for when it does which is less often than you'd think". It's not a constant pain, just when I have to dig out food.

I'll get it done eventually, I just have too much gak going on right now to be laid up for more than a couple of days on painkillers.

He's Australian - the nearest dentist is probably 500 miles away.

@WARBOSS TZOO - Exactly the same tooth as mine. Hurts like feth, doesn't it? Just go and get it sorted out - if you're lucky they might catch it before it gets infected. If it already is, just ask for the gas.

I have consistently had horrible Dentists who often slipped when doing things like pulling teeth and drilling holes for fillings. I've bled more at Dentists then I have in any of the fights I've been in, so I guess that says something.

The only time I was....well I wouldnt call it affraid, more like incredibly nervous was I was going in to have all 4 wisdom teeth pulled. Now Ive never had more then a filling (once when I was like or something) so I think I was reasonably nervous, never having anything remotely close to that.

But no, not affraid of the dentist.
