Why is it that everyone always puts the logos on the six face when they make themed dice. I get it that people may want to associate their logo with a good result. However, logos are generally one coherent figure and I think they'd make much more sense on the one face. Especially when that logo is circular like the Flames of War British Dice . I know I'm in the minority on this, but it's really been nagging at me.

Because if you're going to take the time to put a special image on a die, would you rather have it be on the face that typically indicates success, or failure?

I know I certainly wouldn't want double-logos to mean that my unit runs off the board. Sixes aren't always good.

They should start putting them on the 4 side...half the time it's good (or okay) and half the time it's bad.
In all seriousness though I hardly even notice them anymore, too many people use them that I just think 6. A guy was playing against me one time with BA themed dice that I didn't even notice til the game was over. I play BA and thought they were awesome...can't remember where he said he got them...damn engineering school, left no memory for the stuff that really matters.

I get confused when the logo is on the six, as most of my dice are themed ones, with the logo being on the 1

Rackham puts icons on the six side of the dice, but then rackham uses the dice imagery to indicate target rolls. I find this annoying and long winded when writing a rulebook.
I much prefer a '5+' to a roll of '<five> or <dragon>'.

I have mine on the 1's side. Having a logo on the 6 side doesn't really make much sense to me.
I'm always looking for the logo to pop up when rolling a psychic test =P

I hate dice that use numerals. They're more difficult to read from across the table.

I think it's up to personal preference, but I like mine on the 6's. I just got some of the red warhammer dice (the ones that came in a tin with artwork on the top) but only for the scatter and artillery dice, since the rest have an axe and skull logo on the "1"... which would be entirely too confusing to use with the rest of my dice that have a custom "6" face! (Dakka Dakka!!)
I also think it generally makes a bit more sense to put it on the "6" face, since that's the side the most material is removed from. You could conceivably affect the result of the dice with any customized logos, but having it on the face that is already the most "engraved" seems to be logical.
But as long as a person is consistent using one face or the other, I'm fine with it . I did encounter a player with black and yellow dice- black had a frowning face on the 1, and yellow had a smiling face on the 6. It got quite confusing after a while, since he rolled them interchangeably and mixed together...

If you want to see something TRULY nasty...I have themed dice that have my FLGS logo on the one's side for SOME dice...and some other dice (same colors) have PWNED written on the 6 side...I have to actually SHOW every 1 and 6 that comes up to my opponent. A couple of my buddies get PISSED and tell me to get real dice. Aren't chessex dice that are devoted to all of the gods of chaos "real?" Hehe...

Yeah, for Dakka dice in particular they *have* to be on the six so you can yell 'DakkaDakka' excitedly when you see them instead of being bummed if they represented the '1' (or anything less than a '6 for that matter).

I too wouldn't want my club-logo to be equal to a failure.
However, our actual team-dice are printed on the 1-face, since we wanted a fun/original design.
Our team name "Team Aapie" is roughly translated to "Team Monkey" (though in childish spelling). So we decided to put a banana peel on the 1-face, instead of our actual logo on the 6-face:
An obvious fail.

I have no issue with logo's on dice as long as the person is using a uniform system. For example: as long as all the symbol's are 6's. I ran into a player where 1 color it was on the 1's, and a different color was on the 6's. During fast dice rolling, that gets confusing.
I use privateer press dice for everything. Trollblood's and the Pirate dice. They are consistent, both set's come with symbols on the 6's. I also make a point to place all of my dice in front of my opponent and show them pre-game

My usual reaction to seeing special dice is "Neat! I want some!"
That being said, I agree with njpc that having an opponent that rolls some dice that have symbols for 1's along with others that have symbols for 6's is quite confusing! I had a guy doing that one time during a game of A&A War at Sea, and it drove me up the wall.

Agreed on both counts . However, there is a local gaming club here called "Ineptus Astartes" (they'll have a table at GamesDay, too, which I might help cover to give one of the regulars a break) that has their logo on the one. Given their name and logo (a marine skipping after a ball) it makes sense . It actually looks quite similar to your banana-logo dice, Enginseer, given that they're also yellow!

Even though I love my new dakka dice, I must admit that I don't like the artwork on the 6 side as they can be very confusing to play against... I see a single thing on the die face and a single thing in my mind = 1, so when I play against people who are using mixed dice and they're scooping up 6's and dakkas and god knows what else, I always feel I'm being cheated. Makes it very difficult to track what is going on with your opponent's dice rolling.

Ugh. I would have to say no. If stuff is on different sides, then don't mix them together. I don't want to have to remember your crap, please.
Otherwise, I have no problem with dice that are customized on one side. After I'm clear if it's the 1 or the 6 side, roll away.

I do think mixing different dice is terrible, like kronk said. I would include regular dice in this. If you have customized dice, all of your dice should be customized, imho... even using dice with different logos can be confusing.
I wouldn't be as much of a stickler on that, as long as it was all on the '6' facing, but I would definitely prefer uniform dice!
I would also make an exception for someone who has a cool dice "collection" and wasn't using it for their advantage. For instance, people who collect dice from different clubs / gaming groups. Although, I'd prefer they keep those just to look pretty, and use a uniform set to roll with

I agree that it seems logical to me to replace the '1' with the logo rather than the '6'. Most of my dice use pips rather than a single numeral, so I always see the single logo and think it is a one, only to realize a moment or two later (with that sickening shame of idiocy) that it's the six.
Also, does anyone know somewhere on the internet to get dice that are custom designed?
