Been coming up with many different lists for a Daemon Hunters army but has been on the verge of doing something completely drastic... The question i wanna know is, are taking Daemon Hosts worth losing the chance to take Grey Knights?

behind you!

the grey knight (terminators) are generally considered the stronger buy, though personally I always thought demon hosts had alot of potential and have yet, in the many years of that codex, seen them fielded once. For a unit with so many cool abilities it seems wrong....

I like all the powers they could possibly get, I mean there not like Possessed, They do something BA. Not to mention you can 3 of them and they wont cost as much as a terminator squad

Deamonhosts were mildly competitive in 4th edition. But in 5th they have two major weaknesses: they're way too easy to just shoot to death, and they each count for one KP.

Fun for pickup games, campaigns and narrative scenarios, but not competitive.

They pretty much suck, but they're very fun. They work better as allies in an IG force than in the Daemonhunter codex itself, but if you are playing a Planetstrike game, you most definitely want to give them a shot.

Until a new codex comes out, yes, as long as you take an Inquisitor Lord.

But the problem is daemonhosts will most likely roll the wrong ability each turn. Turn 1 : replenish all wounds DAMMIT!. Get into an assault roll a teleport DAMMIT.

I have a small DH army that I use for quick fun games; basically 600pt: Inq and retinue; 2 squads of stormtroopers; 3 daemonhosts.
Anecdotally I have never lost with this outfit.

I find daemonhosts to be a very well priced unit. In low points battles, 3 daemon hosts can usually hold up most of the enemy force by themselves. The issue (as stated previously) is getting them into combat. Just hug cover for the first few turns, and if you're lucky you'll roll a teleport anyway. Once the're in combat all of the powers have a use.
I especially enjoy teleporting out of combat toward a unit that your opponent thought was sitting safely on an objective / in cover etc.

I recommend them. The disadvantages are fairly obvious, and you're not going to see a competitive list over 1000 pt with them, but then again it's quite hard to make a competitive DH list without GK anyway-

I always find a little bit of randomness= fun

Taking Demon Host do not do it is a waste unless your wanting a theme to the army. There stats are to random and can do decent when combined with other charges but ya don't do it.

Well, with the veritable cornucopia of information you've given there's literally nothing left to flesh out is there?

he had 3 squads of firewarriors, 2 devilfishs, 1 hammerhead with a railgun, 2 broadsides, and 2 crisis teams of 3, and a tau commander and 2 bodygaurds.

I had an inqiusitor lord with 2 body guards, 2 mystics, and 2 familars, 2 squads of stormtroopers in chimeras, a land raider, 3 squads of 3 deamonhosts, and lance strike.

Basically all i did was keep my lord and troopers back and deepstriked all my deamonhosts right next to him. my lord and troopers didnt do anything but my deamon hosts assaulted everything and either ran the tau over or made them fall back off the table. And i only lost 1 deamonhost but that was from a misshape

Yeah: Grats on winning with your illegal army. Daemonhosts are a 0-1 choice and only allow 3 as 1 slot, so 3 max per army.

How did he feel about you running an illegal list? Sounds like you really got some good mileage out of those extra six Daemonhosts.
