Suffolk, where the Aliens roam.

I'm a bit annoyed today, as it seems Jinx.com has not been entriely honest with us folks in Europe.

About September-ish last year they made a big thing that they where opening a European branch of the store, all prices where going to be set to Euro/pounds for EU customers.

Finally got around to using the service a month or so back, and found out today its a con as I got hit by a customs charge.

Looking into it, it's become apparent that what they did is shift $ prices directly to Euros or £ price, so a shirt of $17.99 became £17.99, but they still ship from the US, so its pretty much gauranteed you're over our customs limit and bang, charged.

There has been a fair few criticisms of them due to this practise, which is a shame as I love the shirts they do, but seriously when some makes a big thing and says they are opening a European branch of their store on the main WOw site, you'd think they might have an actual bloody warehouse in Europe.

So my advice to anyone using them outside the US, use the US store, pay in $ and save some money.

Share your own experiences here if you like, and forwarn your fellow dakkites of impending con merchants.

It doesn't matter what currency you pay in, your still going to get charged the customs when buying from the US.

Also how can it be a con? They are not the ones the customs charges go to.

I never buy from the US for this reason. Ridiculous custom charges.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
As a rule of thumb, if you're going to buy form the US, add 30% to the price and see if it's still worth it. Compare that to buying inside the EU where you don't pay any customs duty.

Somewhere in south-central England.

The limit for customs is £18, and the tariff will always be charged on goods shipped via UPS or similar as the courier company will present them for inspection. You will often get away with it on goods sent by normal post.

This week I bought from the USA goods worth about £21, got hit with Customs charge of £3.49 and a "handling fee" of another £11. On top there was the shipping cost of $48. So in effect these goods cost me about triple their face value. Unfortunately it's difficult to find these goods in Europe.

Shipping costs from the USA seem to be very high.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Aye I have no issues about the custom charges, what I objected to was announcing a European store, but it was just an excuse to charge highier prices for those of us in the EU.

I have a feeling Blizz actually said it was in Europe on the main site when the announced it for Jinx last year.
I did notice in some threads on this subject, Jinx had refunded Custom charges for some due to the fact the site gave the impression it was in Europe.

I'd have happily payed import tax, if I saved about £15 (if not more) by paying dollar prices on this order.

They are exorbitant.

I do not trade internationally anymore.

Do the UK prices include VAT?

What is the VAT like in the US? is it different state to state? if so, it might be why the untaxed price is put on a US store while a UK store would have the VAT on it.

Though handling fees are absurd. One of my friends has to pay (I thnk) £300+ for a couple of bits of cardboard ordered. For that cost, can't you almost fly over and deliver it by hand?

It varies from state to state.
