Gundam Wing - Good general gundam, also nostalgia bait for the average anime fan in his/her mid20s
8th MS team - Hardcore Gundam, srs business at it's finest
G Gundam - How Gundam does hot blooded. Still pretty kick ass.
I beg of you sarge let me lead the charge when the battle lines are drawn
Lemme at least leave a good hoof beat they'll remember loud and long

You and I agree on this one. Wing isn't ranked in my top gundam series at all, more like mid to lower tier.
TY! It is one of the worst for me to! I like the Gundam designs and some of the characters, but the story was just... Like Soladrin put it. Bad. A lot of it was weird and didn't make that much sense. Also the action scenes were not even that good. A lot of the early Gundam series, even with older animation, had much better fighting scenes. Endless Waltz was much better.
Has anyone seen the new upcoming Gundam series they have? It's another stupid Gunpla Builders series :/ One of my most favorite anime collective (Gundam) keeps letting me down

I will probably give the gunpla builders series a shot, but I don't expect it to hold my interest. I feel Gundam is in need of a really good series because right now it feels like it is marketing to the kiddies (besides Unicorn).
It sucks that I can't talk Gundam with my friends because both find G Gundam to be their favorite. One just kind of goes with the flow of the conversation (he at least enjoys watching other Gundam series) and the other has such a hard-on for G Gundam that he goes as far as to say that all other Gundam series suck, King of Hearts Domon is the best character (all others suck), Burning Gundam is the best Gundam (all others would be beatdown), Dark Gundam is the best bad guy MS (all others can't compare), etc.. This leads to me doing this every time we talk Gundam.
Dark Angels- 7500 pts Tau- 5000pts Chaos Daemons- 3000/2000 pts Dark Eldar(allies)- 1500 pts Zoom, Zoom, Iyaan.

I still refuse to acknowledge G Gundam as a thing.

I have the nostalgia factor because it was the 1st Gundam I ever watched......when I was 11. Now I have experienced other Gundam series and can look objectively at it; which puts it at the same level as wing for me.

The titan fight finally went down, and all things considered it was pretty cool.
Why Eren didn't opt for pulling the head off the other titan instead of uselessly punching while he was on top I'll never know.

He was blinded by rage and wanted to make her suffer before he killed her.

While I agree with that sentiment, it's funny that it's among the more popular Gundam series out there.
And that's why I usually keep my opinion of Wing to myself, I never understood why it was so popular.

He was uber-pissed. He just wanted to smash her. Which eventually led to him losing control (apparently what the female titan was waiting for because Eren was doing well before he went stupid) and losing. Which led to our annual Eren getting eaten scene. It was an awesome fight right up until the point when Eren lost control due to rage at which point it got eye-rollingly predictable.

Low standards perhaps?
Thank God for the Zeta Gundam compilation movies; if not for those, the CE franchise would have probably forced me to give up on the Gundam-verse for good.

I think one reason for it being so popular is it being one of the few Gundam series(if not the only one?) that saw Air time on Fox Kids.
I have a prediction in mind for who the one controling that female Titan is, but I don't know the characters actual name so I can't list it. Maybe if people are interested enough in making guess as to who it might be I could try to look up who that person I have in mind is.

Damn kids...they need to be shown a Gundam series with REAL quality.

I don't need to make a guess, I know who it is. Manga and all that... Won't spoil anything.
Yeah, I assumed a few of you know who it is because of comments on reading the manga, and on that note I highly appreciate the lack of any spoilers from you lot. I hate how I can't read any discussions on the Game of Thrones tv series because people who have read the books feel the need to bring that knowledge into the discussions.
The titan fight was pretty cool. But I can't help still being a little frustrated with the episode. It kept killing the tension by jumping to random pointless talking scenes

The original movie trilogy. Note that the animation may be a bit dated (the series was made 1979) but it gives the best view of the background and is my favourite overall.
Some info:
UC Gundam is the original, and largest setting with the most series and movies in it. It's the general 'favourite' and the most 'hard' sci-fi of the lot, and the most classic - generally the show is further away from superheroes and more of science-fiction with a small hint of supernatural (psychic pilots, psychic controlled drones basically). I recommend watching the original trilogy to get the best view. Then you can see:
Zeta - this is the sequel series and follows on straight after the original and has some new events where the winners of the war in the original series now have an oppressive wing and is about the rebel fight against them.
ZZ - sequal to Zeta, carries on where the last finished off, though there's a change of tone.
Char's Counterattack - happens after ZZ and is the end of the 'early' UC timeline if it weren't for...
Unicorn - this happens after Char's Counterattack and covers the events of the last remnants of the losing side, and has background about the setting that talks about history before UC Gundam and hints on how that conflict started.
Throughout the above, there are recurring characters (though the main character changes each one, CCA protagonist is the original series one though); Bright, the ship commander in the original series appears in every single one of the above, all the way to Unicorn (where he has a cameo role).
We then have some side stories that happen during the previous ones:
08th MS team - happens during the events of the original series, and covers a ground unit of cannon fodder guys.
0080 war in a pocket - side story that happens during the original series
0083 stardust memory - side story between original and Z gundam that covers why they got so oppressive in the first place. The main character has a pathological fear of carrots
After these, there are 'late UC' that happen long after the events in Unicorn - they are pretty standalone.
F91 (movie)
Victory Gundam
G-Gundam - alternate universe, and more like an 'arena' or 'sports' super hero version. Very different tone to UC
Gundam Wing - has some memorable characters, and the political plot is quite interesting. Romantic plot is bad, and action re-uses a lot of footage and the Gundams are arguably silly designs for the tone of the show (compared with US or G-Gundam, it's like they took the 'superhero' Gundams from G-Gundam and put them in a UC-like setting where in UC the Gundams are basically treated like normal tanks)
Gundam X - post apocalyptic Gundam, more modern seeming
Turn A Gundam - post-post apocalyptic - people are regressed into an earlier society and dig up the Gundam
Gundam SEED - AU Gundam that sort of wants to be like UC but is weirdly written
Gundam SEED Destiny - apparnelty, it took the worst bits of Gundam SEED and made them bigger and even worse, and dropped the good bits of Gundam SEED.
Gundam 00 - first gundam with aliens; I don't know much about it though
Gundam AGE - kind of kiddy looking, but I don't know much more about it. Has some WTF designs (or was that 00?)

With respect, I would recommend Zeta Gundam (either the TV series or the compilation movies) as IMHO, it is the greatest Gundam series thus far.
Another good suggestion IMO is Turn A Gundam, though it requires a certain maturity to enjoy (as it focuses more on character development as opposed to mecha battles).

I would actually recommend watching all 3 UC series (plus Unicorn and Char's counterattack) to really get the most out of the background and depth. Zeta does a really good job balancing new and returning characters to give a good feel for an evolving story. I really would like to watch Turn A Gundam, but I want to find a reliable place to watch it/ download it.

Have you tried gogoanime?

UC timeline is a really good starting point. Lots of entertainment there. (MS Gundam, Zeta, ZZ, Char's counterattack, Unicorn)
G-Gundam- super saiyan Gundams in tournament fights, a 10 yr olds dream.
Gundam Wing- lots of politicking, but bad action scenes and a romantic plot that falls on it's face. Some characters are pretty good. Tolerable watch.
Gundam X- post-apocalyptic AU to the original Gundam series. I liked it.
Gundam Seed/Seed Destiny- I really liked the series. Downfalls would be characters making stupid, non-sensical decisions (like returning to being a soldier and killing people to answer the question of how they will end the cycle of violence ) and terribly annoying characters (Shinn Asuka, uggh)
Gundam 00- Gundams trying to end war and unite humanity. All to prepare humanity for the Aliens. Humans evolve to beings that think using quantum waves, and can control quantum mechanics.
Gundam AGE- Return of Gundam for kids only without the over-the-top battles.
