Dawn of War III is in the conceptual works...
http://www.1up.com/news/dawn-war-iii-18-24-months
For now they're just in pre-production and planning stages. There schedule is for 18-24 months after DOWII: Retribution. No word if it means no more expansions for DOWII, but there would still be plenty of time for one or two.
Only real tid bit about their plans for the game: "[DOWIII] is going to have a much larger strategic component to it, more of a global battle going on with little tactical things, sort of MMO-like."

hmmm, that trailer didn't do it for me. I quit playing the DOW games after Soulstorm. They completely ruined soulstorm by putting a bad story in it. This is just anther game where you can play with ork space pirates.

Well... yeah... Dawn of War II and Dawn of War have very little in common as far as mechanics go. They're completely different types of games linked only by story and the fact that one of them has a "II" after the title.

You'd love DoW II then. Completely different type of game, and in DoW II they make joking references to Soulstorm's Kaurava campaign being a "disaster".

I always thought it was funny how they refer to the attrition tactics that players had to often use in the first DOW game as having left the Chapter so crippled, to explain why in DOWII you're limited to 4-6 ~5 man squads.
The video linked in that article is DOWII: Retribution and really has nothing to do with DOWIII.

Random thought, Orks are always portrayed with their accent, but in the 40K universe is it suppose to be a distinctive and otherwise incoherent language, to all but the most discerning ear? Or are they just speaking Low Gothic poorly?

Esteemed Veteran Space Marine
Sheppey, England
|
Saw this (apologies if it's already been spotted):
Speaking to website Eurogamer, Bilson started off discussing fellow Warhammer 40,00 game Space Marine - describing it as a third person action that purposefully mocks the cover system of Gears Of War (because the marine's armour acts as its own cover).
He also suggested that the Warhammer 40,000 massively multiplayer online game wouldn't be out for at least two years. But he did hint that the playable classes would include a human scout, Imperial Guard, orks, and Inquisitors - but that becoming a Space Marine would involve a considerable amount of in-game effort.

On 40k Online... I hope becoming a Space Marine is handled better than Jedi were when SWG was initially released. Just the fact that 40k online is apparently using the same tried and tired type class system kinda diminishes my hopes.

This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

I'd really like to see more expansions to Dawn of War 1. Yes, I said it. I think the whole series peaked at Dark Crusade.
I have DoW2 + the expansion, but I really miss building bases and having there be, you know, a real story for everyone.

THQ wouldn't let Gorgutz be put into Space Marine or Dark Milennium because they had plans with him for the Dawn of War games. A lot of people take this as signifying his death.

Great! Let's hope this one doesn't suck. I beta tested DOW and DOW2. I had DOW2 installed on my pc and it was on there for all of literally 1 hour. Coudln't delete it fast enough. They got rid of base building, something that IMO is crucial in a good RTS. They took a great game, added a "2" on to it. That's what they turned it into. #2.
Don't get me wrong, DOW2 is simply a beautiful game, but certainly not my style of gameplay. I'll stick with Starcraft 2 for now.

I liked DOW2 a heck of a lot more than the first one. I finished the full campaign of 1 and didn't care about it enough to make it through the Winter Assault expansion. But the second, with its rpg-lite elements and loot drops make for a great game in my opinion. I'll definitely be buying the Ork expansion, but I'll wait to see what DOW3 actually is before committing.

I think for DoW III the global battle thing is interesting and a good start.
For the campaign I think it'd be interesting if they intermixed the play styles of DoW and DoW II, where your armies mission is to take and secure an area to gain access to some building or other objective, DoW mode... upon completing that you take over in a DoW II mode to clear out the objective. Or where your mission in DoW mode is to hunt down an Ork Warboss, when you get there you switch over to DoW II mode to fight that battle.
I really appreciated DoW II for not going the generic route of RTS game. DoW while awesome, was mechanically generic and didn't do too much new beyond being 40k.

I dunno, I kinda like how it was handled actually. It should be hard to become a Jedi/Space Marine or else EVERYONE would be one.
If they allow people to be Marines from the start, then that'll really turn me off and I'll probably end up passing on the game. Of course that's exactly what they're going to do because they know for a fact that, thanks to GW, everyone who buys this game is only going to do it so they can be a Marine. That and it wouldn't appeal to the casual crowd, either.
