Hi all. I thought I’d post up a project that has got my restoration juices flowing – namely a mostly re-done 2,500-3,000pt Blood Angels Army, the aim is to fully restore/paint the bulk of the army in just a few short weeks, and perhaps spend a little more time, another week or two, painting the full compliment of Special Characters. I am making this army with the intention of selling it on later, so if anyone is interested as the week’s progress, please get in touch.
The army is based upon several units and vehicles taken from a big box of love that I received a while back – containing nigh on a battle company of marines and a lot more besides. I have started stripping and tweaking the models where necessary. My aim for the rest of this week is to get as many as possible stripped, prepared and undercoated – ready for spraying.
I’ve decided to do the bulk of the painting with Vallejo Air colour and their range of metallic paints, in part to experiment and in part to save time. The paints come pre-mixed and I’ve heard good things about them so it’s worth a try. I’m still torn between giving them a full on bloody red classic ‘2nd Ed’ look or a darker more ‘modern’ style, but I’m veering towards the classic approach – nostalgia’s creeping over me of late…although I’ll stop short at the Goblin Green bases!
So far I have stripped a Tactical Squad – from the 2nd Ed boxed game, an Assault Squad (’94 metals) though unfortunately the weapon arms were nigh on useless so I’ve had to replace them with newer limbs/weapons and 2 Mk 1 Rhino’s. The Rhino’s were a little worse for wear – so I hope a nice paint job will distract from this. Below are a few before and after pictures of what I’ve done so far. Luckily the rain held off for just long enough to get most of what I have done undercoated...
I currently have 5 Death Company to assemble on my desk and am beginning to strip the 2nd Tactical Squad and prepare their Rhino for undercoating.

Good look with the painting! Although if you are going to be selling them you may get more interest in them if they are painted in the more 'modern' colours but that is just my humble opinion! I shall be interested to see your progress as my BA army is at simmilar stages to yours.

Presumably you'll be doing a heavily weathered colour scheme to represent their age? Still, good luck with this, hope you do well.

Oooo another resurrected army, I'm picking up a trend I like very much here. Sign me up as a plus 1 for old models, modern colours.

Just a quick update. I've managed to complete a test model and am pretty pleased. On my agenda today is to finish spraying what I undercoated yesterday and to carry on with the Tactical Squad. The red I used was Vallejo Italian Red, which is pretty much the same as Blood Red, and after 3-4 light coats I managed to get good enough coverage to begin painting. Unfortunately the red is not good enough to spray on black so I'll have to paint my scouts all by hand - not a problem really as they are mostly trouser!
Below - my spray booth - Rain cannot stop me! (Although I still need to wear a mask) And the test model in its red base and finished stages. Sorry for poor photos...

Glory to the Twelfth! Glory to Angron!
"Because we couldn’t be trusted. The Emperor needed a weapon that would never obey its own desires before those of the Imperium. He needed a weapon that would never bite the hand that feeds. The World Eaters were not that weapon. We’ve all drawn blades purely for the sake of shedding blood, and we’ve all felt the exultation of winning a war that never even needed to happen. We are not the tame, reliable pets that the Emperor wanted. The Wolves obey, when we would not. The Wolves can be trusted, when we never could. They have a discipline we lack, because their passions are not aflame with the Butcher’s Nails buzzing in the back of their skulls. The Wolves will always come to heel when called. In that regard, it is a mystery why they name themselves wolves. They are tame, collared by the Emperor, obeying his every whim. But a wolf doesn’t behave that way. Only a dog does. That is why we are the Eaters of Worlds, and the War Hounds no longer."
—Captain Khârn of the World Eaters Legion's 8th Assault Company, from his unpublished treatise The Eighteen Legions |

Thanks guys! Just another quick update as I'm going to be camera-less for the next 3 days. I've started batch painting the Tactical Squad and have begun the Sanguinary Guard as well (1 figure as a test for the Gold Technique and then 1 every 5 'normal' marines as a treat). I sprayed all the SG with a couple of light coats of Vallejo gold (pretty much Burnished Gold) and they look amazing already! For the gold itself I began painting the rest of the gold by hand until I got a smooth finish...then I decided to be clever and use the NMM Sanguinor technique (from WD) but with Metallic paints as a highlight. I've cut out about 3 stages of highlights and I think its looking great.
On another note I've hummed and ha'd over the army itself and have decided to go with the following, along with whatever extars my budget allows...all units are 10 men unless stated...the idea for the army is to provide a solid base with good extras so the buyer (maybe) can chop and change as they wish...
HQ - Dante, Astorath (Librarian and/or Mephiston)
ELITE - 5 SG, Chaplain, 2 Sanguinary Priests (1 JP) - (Corbulo)
TROOP - Tactical Squad w/F, ML
5 Scouts
Assault Squad w/F, MG, PF, PP
7 Death Company w/JP, 2 TH, 2 PW, 1 PP (Lemartes),
10 Death Company w/Bolters
2 5 man Assault Squads (on foot) w/TH & SS + Special Weapons
FAST ATTACK - Baal Predator w/FLSC, HF's, SB & HKM
3 Scout Bikes
HEAVY SUPPORT - Dreadnought
- Preadator w/AC & LC sponsons
TRANSPORTS - 2 Rhino's (1 DC)
- 2 Razorbacks w/ TLAC's

Thanks bruv. Unfortunately this project is currently on hold for a while as I've a Dwarf army to complete and am suffering from chronic back pain which will probably put me out of action for a few days at least
Thought of the Day: Back pain sucks. Emperor bless Valium!
So far I've only managed to finish 6 Tactical Marines and the Gold armour on the SG above. I will post more pics as and when I do things but this project is on the long haul for now. I've now got my full compliment of Death Company JP assembled and primed so hopefully I can begin to do some of those after the tactical squad is complete.
