If it's a more complex model or a standalone then it will be multiple washes and mixes of several brands and shades of flesh tones.

I'm quite terrible with skin still... Haven't had any models with more then a head and some hands to paint... but yea this is pretty much the staple method... tallarn flesh and ogryn wash... I've seen a lot of people also highlight in tallarn afterwards again.

I find tallarn to be too dark on it's own, but the coverage and shade are perfect for a base coat.

Simple, I don't. Just kidding, bleached bone/dheneb stone followed by several washes of gryphonne sepia is what I do.

Everywhere I'm not supposed to be.

On my Kharn the Betrayer, I basecoated Tallarn Flesh, washed the recesses with Devlin Mud and Baal Red, drybrused Tallarn Flesh back over it, rewashed with Baal Red, and highlighted with Elf flesh. Took a few minutes to wait for the washes to dry, but I think it looks alright and was entirely too easy to pull off.

If you need me, I'll be busy wiping the layers of dust off my dice.

After I do the eyes, I undercoat with a dark brown (roughly dark flesh), put a little bit of highlight with bleached bone on the nose and other areas I want raised, and then paint everything but the recesses with tanned flesh. Sometimes I skip the bleached bone for a darker toned person.

Makes a nice medium skin tone.

I usually start with a base of darkened Tallarn Flesh, then highlight with either Tallarn or Elf flesh. After that I mix some Tallarn/Elf with some blood red to get a pinkish color. I then go over the tops of the cheeks, tip of the nose, and lips with it. After that I do the eyes and finish with a dilute wash of devlin mud. If i want to add stubble I will mix some tallarn flesh with bestial brown and/or codex black until i get the hue I like and drybrush it on the mouth area and bottom cheeks (this is before the pink for lips and cheeks goes on of course).

For me the way i do flesh NORMALLY is to do tallarn flesh with a wash of badab black.

I go: Tallarn, wash of Orgyn Flesh, and then highlight with Dwarf Flesh. Simple, easy and effective.

I guess my method is more complex than it should be:

-start with a mix of 1:1 scorched brown/dwarf flesh as basecoat. Work this color up to 1:4 sorched/dwarf
-take the 1:4 mix and add badab black and outline any of the areas that arent going to be paint skin (cable plugs, eyes, around the neck, bionics, hairline, etc)
-watered down pure dwarf flesh with a spot of scorched brown; paint the raised areas and places light would reflect
-watered down 1:1 dwarf flesh/elf flesh and continue to apply to areas where light source would reflect
-repeat with a 1:2 mix, then a 1:3 mix and 1:4 mix
-finally I water down a 2:1 mix of elf flesh/bleached bone and paint on the highest places where light would reflect (forehead, top of cheeks, top of ears, bridge of nose, etc)

Depends on the kind of skin you want. For my Chaos Marauders I wanted a very easy skin tone, and one that would look suitably rough. It's simple Tallarn Flesh with Devlan Mud wash, followed by Tallarn Flesh again on the raised areas:

As others state ogryn flesh wash really helps. Pick a darker skin tone. I like to go for dwarf flesh, then ogryn flesh wash it. Then lightly brush the raised areas to give it depth with elf flesh. It gives a nice non tanned human skin tone. Make sure you leave the recessed areas untouched by the lighter colour. These steps can be effective with a number of darker then lighter tones depending on if you want pale skin, tanned skin or darker/lighter/whatever.

I use Dheneb Stone with a wash of Devlan Mud for my Chaos Marines, leaves you with a nice pale result. I can't stand painting flesh though, it's one of the reasons very few models in my army don't have helmets

I just start with a dark flesh tone and work my way up to lighter ones. I've stopped using washes all together for skin because I find the effects uneven.

Also GW flesh wash is probably the worst skin wash you could use. The stuff has too much red in it.

I do my flesh this way,

Basecoat Tallarn Flesh,
Wash with Devlan Mud,
Highlight with Tallarn Flesh
Another Highlight, with Elf flesh,
Finally, highlight the sharp edges with bleached bone.

I normally do
1. Basecoat Tallarn Flesh
2. Wash ogryn flesh
3. Layer Tallarn Flesh
4. Highlight Elf flesh or Tallarn Flesh mixed with Bleached Bone
5. Extreme highlight Elf flesh mixed with Skull White or Bleached Bone
The one with Elf flesh is for elves and the bleached bone is for manlings
Hope thats helpful!

I suppose my technique is way more in depth and probably unecessary compared to everyone elses but here it is:

- base coat with a 1:1 mix of scorched brown/dwarf flesh
- bring the ratio up to 1:2 and then 1:3 continue applying these colors over the entire surface of the skin
- take a mixture of 1:4 scorched brown/dwarf flesh and generously paint the raised aread of the face. Make sure to keep your paint thin
- take a 1:1:1/2 mix of Scorched brown/dwarf flesh/chaos black and water it down to a wash consistency. apply this color around the non flesh areas of the face (studs, cables, neck, hairline)
- mix 1:1 dwarf flesh/elf flesh and began highlighting the raise areas where light would reflect (top of ears, bridge of nose, forehead, eyebrows, cheeks, chin)
- mix 1:2 of the same paints and continue highlights, working up towards the light source...remember to keep all of your paints thin as if to let some of the last color bleed through
- mix 1:3 do the same thing
- add a small amount of bleached bone into the mix and apply this as a final highlight to areas that would recieve the most light

(see pics of my Blood Angels for a finished result)
