I didn't go to Gamesday but I didn't see any info on new armies or anything about it really online. I used to really enjoy seeing the new stuff at Gamesday when I went, but I am now glad that I didn't go this year. So really, how come no news?

Go look at the Badab War thread. That's all the big news that came out of Games Day Baltimore.

Games Days in Europe are where they announce most of the 40k/Fantasy/Lord of the Rings release news.

Because there wasn't much news. They had a new trailer for the Ultramarines movie, and lots of Forgeworld stuff as Kanluwen said. We've gotta wait til the end of September for GD UK to really get any news. Rumor has it that Dark Eldar will be revealed then.

I think that's more desperate hope at this point. GW have continued to say nothing about DE, we do know that Necrons are getting a tank like thing revealed revealed though.

i guess GW is keeping the news for the UK gamesday. FW made some awesome announcements but their stuff is separate from the 40k product line.

I sure hope so. The past few years of this uber secrecy is getting annoying. I liked back in the day where we knew about Daemonhunters and Tau a year before the release. I can understand that GW doesn't want consumers to judge units and the codex in general before they actually come out, but part of the excitement is anticipation. I'm going to buy the new codex of whatever army comes out anyhow whether I decide to play them or not. It's much like the "new" Star Wars movies. Yeah, I knew they were going to suck, but I still went and saw them. *on a side note, actually enjoyed Episode III mostly*

Bottom line is I'm not going to judge with any degree until I hold the codex in my hands.

No, for a vague E-mail the day after UK Games Day.

i was expecting a load of threads screaming about how gamesday was awesome considering they consolidated it all into baltimore and made it amazing and like it used to be. the last few years of gamesday have been garbage. so was it amazing?

The last Gamesday I went to was when it was in Atlanta the first year, and was in Baltimore the 2000-2003. I'm guessing the last Gamesday I went to was 2004 or so. Atlanta was fun-ish, but they got rid of a reason why I went which was the bitz sales. They were $0.20 a gram, and had a much better variety of bitz as well. It also was not nearly as large which I could not expect it to be as grand as Baltimore. My wife enjoyed Gamesday as well, but it just isn't worth the drive anymore really. It takes us generally 9-10 hours to get there whereas the new Chicago Gamesday will be 13-14 hours for us, so our chances of getting there will be even worse.

Seriously, did you expect GW to suddenly change practice and reveal the grand secret of what they'll be doing over the next 2 or 3 months (besides WFB8 / IoB)?

There was no news at Gamesday because you touch yourself at night.

I wish I could say that was why, because then there would be an easy fix. But the real reason is that GW is afraid of negative backlash. Everytime that they give news, and people react negatively to it, they close the window more, to prevent any possible loss of sales due to bad PR before hand.

Do you think anyone would have bought the DA codex if they knew what was in it, and what was coming six months down the line? Thought not.

So instead they push this "SURPRISE!" philosophy that says to keep us in the dark, so when we do get the new product, we in theory, will buy it before anyone can say anything bad about it. That's why they try to push as many sales as possible the day it comes out. Because if they don't sell it that day, we nasty people on the internet may tell people that the product is bunk.

And not saying nothing costs much less than making quality products all of the time.
